  1. Here you are :

How come it`s been so quiet around you lately?

Because I`ve had to find a reason to make an album. There`s been a lot of pressure, especially from my recordlabel,to sit down with superproducers and songwriters-which feels real bizare since I can`t and won`t sing other peoples songs.I make all my own material, and I also make strange popmusic.I don`t make normal pop,but alternative pop.I know it`s 2 opposites, but there has to be a concept,a reason. And yes,it took some time, this time.My first album was about my friends, and I wrote it with musicians i care about a lot.The other album I wrote alone in front of my piano, and produced it with one other person, that was it.Then I went on tour for 2 years, and didn`t write another song for 1½ years.

Then something terrible happened in my family, and it made me realise that anybody can die within 2 seconds. And bizarrely enough I fell in love at the same time. And these 2 events coincided,I packed my bags for about 1 year, went to Montreal, found Nick Littlemore(from australian Empire of the sun),whom I like very much.We wrote the song The origin of love, which also is the title of my upcoming album, and I didn`t go home for 6 months.I thought,f... that,I`m a songwriter again! And I found The origin of love, and it wasn`t Nick Littlemore,ha,ha!

If your first album was about being a child

Well,it wasn`t as much about being a child,I would say it was more about the school years-actually a part of it was written when I was still at school

And the other album was sort of part 2. of the first album,a kind of teenage years?

Yes,exactly.Even the cover was a blue version of the same motive.

But this record is something different entirely. Some times you need to do something very different.Like taking a vase and smash it at the floor.

But are you grown up on this record?

No,I`m more grown down,ha,ha.No,I don`t know if I`m grown up.

But you seem more serious and grown up in your styling on stage.A lot of the colors are gone?

But the music still has a lot of color.Color come in many versions.

So you`re not grown up,it`s just a side of you we haven`t seen earlier?

Well,I don´t feel neither young nor old.Like some days I like myself and some days I don`t.

You have some sort of split personality?

Yes,in some ways I do-and I think a lot of us do.We all have some kind of unstability in us,Some times we love ourselves, and some times we hate ourselves, and that`s why I think we`re so desperate to do something we like.

Do you sometimes feel like you don`t fit in?

Yes,I still feel like I don`t fit in.Look around(points aroud backstage,The Blue Van has just passed us). They all have cool tatoos and skinny jeans.

    But they all look alike?

    No,they look fantastic.

But you can see miles away that you`re a musician. You have something real unique that others don`t.

That`s really sweet, but I`ve never felt like I fitted in.

Fair nok,I can see that, but you have really turned it around to your advantage.

Yes,and I feel really good about it now.But it`s taken quite some time to get here.I had to accept at first, that I really didn`t have to fit in.

And you haven`t had any help from stylist and media people to create your look?

No,no,not at all.I work with some designers once in a while, but I often tell them what I want.I also work a lot wit my sisters, they help with picking out clothes, make videos, and one of them make my artwork.

You seem like a close family?

    We`re close,but we`re not a real nuclear family.We fight a lot,and that`s quite healthy.Because of that we can have an honest relationship.

The media love to put a label on people, but you`re hard to label.Fx. where you`re from(Mika`s born in Libanon, and has lived in France, but now resides in London),and your sexual orientation.(Mika has after the interview announced that he`s homosexual). Why are you so hard to categorize?

Ha,ha,I guess I`m a product of the globalized world,of immigration.I don`t symbolise a nation or a mentality.I`m a product of freedom. My generation don`t need anybody to tell us that we can make a music video. We don`t need a budget. We just grab a Cannon and make a f.... video.e don`t need a record company to tell us that we can make an album. We just make it on our computer. We don`t need abybody to tell us who we can and can`t have sex with. One of the things we fight for the most is the right to choose-wheter you`re hetero or homesexual-it really doesn`t matter. We just want to be able to choose.

    We`re a more competent,free generation,than the one before us.And I guess we`re pretty hard to put a label on.

I often talk about homosexuality in my songs, and every time it`s to give strenght and more tolerance. And when you look at the new ones,Origin of love and Make you happy, the most important message is freedom.Freedom to choose.

Mika.We have to talk about Nibe Festival 2007.You cancelled?

Yes,it was terrible.I had the mumps and I actually lost 60% of my hearing in one ear.The doctors didn`t know if it would return or if I would loose more.Every time I played or listened to music, all I ever heard was noise,so I had to take it easy.

It sounds terrible, especially for a musician. But ok,we got The Ark instead.

    The Ark.I don`t know them.

It`s actually a band.Ok,listen,I`ve got a fashionblog.Actually one of the biggest in Denmark, and I ended up naming it after one of their songs.

    Ha,ha,really,what`s it called?

    Clamour for Glamour.

    Cool.It`s a cool name.I like it!

Thank you. It`s time to say goodbye.Again Mika is very polite, and I end up promising him to tweet my blogs url to him.Not because I think he`ll ever go look, but I think it`s in his gracious nature to ask.

I walk away with a clear picture of who Mika is.And I`m surprised at how much I can relate to him.In the interview we talk about Wayne Coyne, the very charismatic lead singer in The flaming lips, who Mika loves. They are, among other things, known for their wild stage shows with confetti, fire and dressed up dancer - not unlike the ones Mika deliverede earlier.I`m personally such a big fan that I got Wayne Coyne to write the title of my favorite number with them,on my arm,so I could get it tatooed, and have it with me forever. We agree that we should be Coynes bastards, and for a moment Mika falls out of his popstar role and we laugh through our figment of imagination.Apart from our previously mentioned fascination for Wayne Coyne and that we`re the same age,I can totally understand how he can perform in front of thousands of people without problems, but get really shy when he`s not on stage, and even has to talk about himself.

People seldom understand how you can be shy and have a blog where you show pictures of yourself on a daily basis. But you can.Because I`m from a generation who wants to decide and we want to do something we like.

And I can conclude that third time IS the charm.

  2. I can translate if somebody hasn`t already?

I really like this interview!:blush-anim-cl: it's made in another way than we usually get from the journalists :blush-anim-cl: it's also funny to read how much struggle this blogger had before she finally succeded in seing MIKA live in concert, after two failings she was lucky, and even got this interview after the concert!!:thumb_yello: She also desribed well her own impression of him, both as the proff artist - and the more private, nice and shy person :wub2:

Thanks for finding and posting this, including the lovely photos! :blush-anim-cl:

I hope someone can translate it, so more than us scandinavians can read it...

    Love,love

    me

  3. I got all of it on film and it was quite touching.

He clearly said "my man" or something like that, I'm going to the airport now and vids will be up, tool first of course for obvious reasons, tomorrow :)

First time I got to talk to Mika, was really nice:wub2:

Will write a full review of this awesome gig soon!

Can`t wait!Glad you all had such a great time and sooo happy for Mika.Well done:thumb_yello:

  4. It was my first Mika concert and I was soooo happy finally being able to see him.Unfortunately I missed the last song as I was dying of thirst so I had to go buy some water...and I was sort of hoping to run into him backstage,so I left a little early.

    Unfortunately I didn`t run into him,but I`m not even sure I would`ve dared speak to him if I did.It`s a pity I was there alone,otherwise I probably would`ve drunk enough to have the nerves:naughty:

But my brother played on another stage at the same time as Mika,so I had nobody with me,but next time....I hope:wink2:Now,of course,I regret not hooking up with someone from in here,I`m sure you would`ve given me the courage,or at least a kick in the butt.

Anyways,it was an aaaawsome concert and I love all your pictures and videos, thank you so much:thumb_yello:
