Well if you leave the parents out of the equasion, my interpretation of it isn't that bad.

To each their own, I never said any of the other ideas were wrong.

But if this is about his grandparents/parents then some lyrics don't make much sense.

Well sorry it didn't work. I'm new on this board so for starters I don't know if there has already been another thread on this song in the thousands of other threads on this forum.

And I looked up the lyrics on yahoo and that was what I found and I compared it to the song whilst listening.

I said what I thought it was about, I didn't know he meant it to be about his mother or his grandmother.

And I didn't do that to be laughed at with your "teehee" LnrdToxic.

I wanted to attempt to “decode” Stuck in the Middle and that’s what I came up with.

I’d like to know how you would decode it? It’s just my opinion here!

**He is obviously mad at someone for some reason and that person is older than him as well.

That person seems to be happy in the fact that he is upset about it.

Therefore he asks the person to see it from his point of view.

Looking at life from the perspective of a boy

Who's learnt to love you but has also learned to grow.

Could we make it better, stormy weather?

So I dunno.

**The fight seems to be that this older person is wanting

him to stay as he is and not mature and change his views

on certain things. But through the constant fighting he

still asks to have another go but is unsure.

He is stuck in the middle at how much he cares for this

person but also how much he wants to figure things out

on his own

And instead of trying to mend it that person is still piling on

and piling on the situation to make him feel worse.

I feel this is related towards his family in two separate ways.

One can see it as an insult that was made towards him

and his siblings and that person does not accept the traditional

way of upbringing within that family (virginity until marriage perhaps?).

Or it can be seen that this other person is a woman who is older

than him who wants children but only wants one as opposed

to a full family of five children. He seems to have more backing

of his own relatives/family more facts and proof than the

other person.

** He doesn’t want this relationship of any kind to end but due

to the circumstances there is no other choice.

This person seems to have deeply betrayed him (cheated on him?).

It’s somehow an illicit or forbidden relationship

(no not aiming at a gay relationship but a relationship with

someone much older than him). And finally when they have

parted there can be honesty in his life because the pretending,

lies and fights will end.

So, to my opinion, it does not indicate a gay relationship

but rather a relationship with an older woman who somehow

tried to “control” him and make him do things he didn’t want

or commit to something he didn’t want. And it was a known

situation as his family backed him up on this.

Read through the lyrics a few times and it’ll make more sense.

(and if one wants Happy Ending might be the result of

the story told in this song! Actually almost his whole album

could be followed as a love story from the start of the relationship

to the end (not all his songs though), worth a consideration I'd say...)

Crazy suggestion here, since we're all so keen on discussing Mika's sexuality, we could just as well discuss our own....

That's precisely why I think it's silly that we can't discuss Stuck in the Middle. We're merely providing our own interpretations which may really say more about us than about Mika. Just because he doesn't want to tell us what his meaning for the lyrics are it doesn't mean that we can't discuss what our meanings are. And even if our interpretation relates to things being revealed about Mika (e.g. bisexuality), it's fine if we remember that it's all hypothetical and he's going to neither confirm nor deny anything that we say about him.

True! Our own interpretations will all be different and that's just fine, that's the meaning of his music I think, that we all have our own opinion of it!

I think the Mika himself put it best when he said "My songs aren't necessarily about me, but they are through my lens."

 

The fact that he writes his own music does give us a little window into his "interpretation".

Exactly! Billy Brown could refer to a friend of his, someone he knows.

I see his songs as little stories, and not about him as such.

Also, there are SO MANY interpretations possible for his songs that he's the only one who really know what they mean!

I'm also a Transgender activist, so I know that the line of genderidentity is a long one and if you have straight on the left and gay on the right, there are a LOT of other types in between these two points! Trust me, it's never fully black or fully white but a wide variety of gray shades! And that is what makes it all so interesting!

Frustrating thing to me is that Billy Brown is NOT gay! He's Bi! He's married and has an affair with another man BUT when he's in Mexico he get's with another girl who has the guts to tell him that he is a "victim of the times"! Please make the effort to read the lyrics completely... that might help!

Let's face it we are in Modern Times where it doesn't matter what your sexual preference is anymore! A LOT of people are Bi nowadays. You fall in love with the person not their gender!

I really and honestly don't see the point in this ever ongoing discussion about Mika's sexuality. I think if he read all of this he'll laugh to himself saying look at them getting all worked up about something that's not even relevant!

It's normal that people wonder but that's where it should stay WE DON'T KNOW and speculating until the cows come home is not going to get us any answer what so ever!!! Mika is smart not telling, because just imagine what people's reaction would be if he did divulge his sexuality? It's already a mad house as it is! Smart guy Mika....

I really honestly don't care if he's gay, straight or bi or who knows even a virgin. Truth be told it's none of our business! And I have to say that reading the statements saying that "if Mika doesn't want to talk about his sexuality then why can't or shouldn't we?" is slightly sickening. For pete's sake, does it matter that much? NO! It doesn't and it shouldn't. If he tells us one day fine and if he doesn't fine! I'm not the one creating a big hoopla over it!

As for his family.... Leave them alone unless they are at a public venue and even then still observe your manners!! If you want a picture ask them if it doesn't bother them not if they want to pose! Like a lot of people already said, they are normal people (even Mika) with their own friends. Have some respect people, that's the key thing here. RESPECT these people, they aren't animals in a zoo you know!!! And they won't perform tricks if you throw peanuts at them!

thanks I just checked seetickets standing in apollo is sold out so I got one standing in Brixton and depending on how things go I'll then have one extra ticket for unreserved standing, but that I'll confirm later
