  1. they aren't on the imaginarium tour t-shirt... :dunno:

btw, could someone please translate, or at least write a transcript, of what mika is saying before la solitude?

    the bits i understand are

this is my puppet, then he wonders whether it's marionette or pup in luxemburgish, says that he doesn't understand what the crowd is shouting, and says that the puppet can only do this (wave)

what does he talk with the puppet then? don't get that.

then i think he says that the puppet was supposed to look like him, but it's not exactly a compliment? then that he's gonna sing one of his fave songs, it's in french, but it's very beautiful. and the next part i don't get again.

    thanx. :biggrin2:

    Here you go Mellody :)

    French: F

    Luxembourgish: L

    F:I present you my puppet.

    L:This is my puppet

F: Don't we say doll here? no

    My puppet

    One say doll?

    Oh I don't understand anything

    strange noise

F: He cannot do anything. He can just do this.

L: He can just do this

F: You see my little friend. You are ugly but they love you

You can always have hope in this world

Oh really he is really ugly

He was supposed to look like me and that wasn't exactly a compliment what they did to me

Ladies and gentlemen, if you allow it, I want to sing something ... one of my favourite songs. Now the song is in French but it is really beautiful: I don't understand: are you mad or are you happy? Now I don't understand either. You could be really mad or quite happy. Well... Then I wanted to explain in luxembourgish that I wanted to sing one of my favourite songs but it is in french... ehm I forgot how to say it. This is one of my songs favourite (mixed fav. song) it is called La solitude it's from Barbara and we are going to sing it. The melody is quite beautiful, so even if you don't understand the lyrics, the melody is quite beautiful

    TALKS IN ENGLISH

  2. http://www.eldoradio.lu/onair/aktiounen/concerts/8411.html the interviews are online:)

    Part ONE translation:

Interviewer: Many artists tell me they have never done any music courses, have never learnt musical theory. With you, it seems to be the contrary...

Mika: Oh no I have tried! I have tried but I haven't done well. I have tried since I was 7. I have tried the piano, I could not read the notes because I am dyslexic I have tried with theoretical courses. Now I have a confort in buying music sheets of a music I listen to, especially classical music. I cannot read it but it's a comfort to have them.

Interviewer: Do you think it's important to have a foundation, at least being able to read notes or

    Mika: No

    Interviewer: or you you

Mika: no. Obviously I would say no because I cannot read the notes so I will say no. I think you don't need the theory for liking music but obviously it helps, I will not lie, it helps for people who are able to understand the theory, who are able to understand the notes, they really have ears open to potentially every kind of music and I personally think it is really important but, well that's why I went to a musical college, only so I can hear everything. And it was just because of that. I wanted to sing that's for sure, I wanted to do something at 10 in the morning so I did not have to stay in bed until 1 in the afternoon but the reason was I wanted to hear the music, that's why I went to a college. It was just to open my ears and that is why today, I always do the same thing: I go to a library in London, they are all near my house and I sit myself and I listen, I listen to everything from all around the world, I listen listen listen for not being lazy and for realizing that really, there is... everything comes from somewhere, that's what I try to say: everything comes from somewhere musically and that's why you always have to discover.

  3. if you need help with the translating, just tell me. I guess there were more women than men, but there were some! I'm under the impression as well that the people weren't that young...

MIKA or "the man on the moon" was a guest in Esch on May 8. With a nearly perfect luxemburgish greeting, Michael Holbrook Penniman, the artist's real name, could enthuse a sold out Rockhal (public). With songs as Relax, Grace Kelly or big girl, he particularly charmed his young, female (not really..) fans.

  5. Here's the video Droopsy made :wub2:

In the end you can just see him looking in the bag ..

And then his reaction was like:  and then :biggrin2: but with open and sparkling eyes. :wub2:

I absolutely loved his reaction there lucky u:)))

Ha my sister and me are in the vid at the end:) recognise the security vests lol... I wanted to film him there but I was so nervous having such a gasmic man standing in front of me that I made the battery fall out of my cam...:/ loool silly me

  6. Hey everybody... all I have to add is, even if I was at only 3 gigs (:((( ) I will really miss his shows and him of course!...

I am happy that I could be 1 row even if quite to the left and I really enjoyed the show... wonder where he gets the ideas from:) My personal fav. gig stays Stuttgart because it was so small and intimate, he was shirtless and even more chatty than in Lux:) but I'll hope he will be back soon and I wait impatiently for the next gig in Prague (where it will be my turn to understand nothing of what he will say:) !!!

I'll upload my pics on fb in the next few hours and send u the link right away:)

Next to me there were Spanish girls (LeiRe & PurpleCat I think?) and when he was moving over to me he was talking Spanish, so I was like: aaaah, what do I do now? I had a plan in my head before, but of course everything went "wrong" and since I'm not good in improvising ... :aah: So he came over, still talking and I held my gift in front of him, wich he signed :aah: And then it all started, I was like "no, it's for you!" and he was like:  And then he saw the Werchter-photoalbum that I had in my other hand and said: oh wauw, is that for me too? And I: uh, no :teehee: He was so confused, and so was I :roftl: He then putted his hand on my arm and was like: sorry, sorry, it's all the gigs you know, I'm so tired, I can't think anymore .. It was so sweet! He signed it and said: "oh, I remember this, are you coming this year? It's a fun show."

If you wanted to give him ducks: here's a pic of him wanting to sign the gift:)

  7. quick update from the queue, are at about no. 70, i got no. 14, arrived at about 10:15. didn't get any sleep last night, couldn't sleep in the car and decided not to sleep in the hostel as we only arrived there at 8, and i want a good place today after the amsterdam experience yesterday. tried to sleep a bit in the queue, but didn't work that well.

there are some rumours though about an extra section for kids under 18, they just haven't decided yet whether they'll do that in front of us or at the back... i REALLY hope the latter, don't wanna queue all day to be behind a bunch of people just because they're under 18! :aah: if it was kids under 1,50m or so, i could understand it better - but they'd be with their parents anyway and probably wouldn't be separated from them. i don't get the sense of this, it works fine at every other venue without this too! :aah: really hope they won't ruin it for us! :sneaky2:

that was the case here 3 years ago as they think mika is a concert 4 kids. I don't think tge parents were there but they let teenagers with 1.80 m in front as well... And even if i was in the first row i was very far from the scene that was bad.... Think there were about 15-20 rows with kids if i remember well( maybe it just seemed to be as many)

  8. yeah, they just don't think of the crazy fangirls :aah:

I don't know how I'll do it myself yet. I'll go there by car but the parking is quite far away and there'll be a shuttle bus, but I'm quite sure there won't be one until that late :aah:

u don't go to the belval plaza parking? That's what i'll do...

If someone needs a ride afterwards to the city i've got 2 seats

i'll go for neon colours;) even if i think the ones i bought will not work... Seems dried up...

  9. Grandma's boyfriend to me: Oh I saw this Mika of yours on tv, he's a very handsome man. I must admit you have a good taste

He even told me about Mika's biography, from what he heard from Mika himself on tv that his father was american, his mother lebanese and that they used to live in Paris... did not know my grandma's bf was interested in Mika:) haha that made my day

of course I have a good taste:)

So grandma shall see he's not a jumping penguin!!!:) (she likes his voice tough...)

  10. You know you're a Mika fan when you call your boyfriend and as soon as he answers, there is a tv spot with Mika and you hang up without realizing thinking: I want to marry this guy on tv with a cheesy grin on your face! my God I need help!!!!:)

Mika fan or Mika groupie??? ahhhhh:wub2::blush-anim-cl:

  11. So here is the whole translation (so you don't need to search for the different parts) by Camille and myself:

This morning, Mika has a meeting in the London suburbs to prepare his next tour. This tall lanky young man wasn't able to sell his songs just 4 years ago. Today, he can afford the George Lucas studio, a huge warehouse created for the making of Star Wars. 30 meters under the ceiling, and a team made of 25 people working hard. A lot of resources at the service of the unbridled imagination of this new pop star.

    Mika : It's cool, we're having fun.

    Interviewer : It's impressive.

M: Yes it's not bad. Here are my planets. The thing with my planets is that they are totally white, but when you put UV light on them, you realise they're entirely painted like planets with craters and stuff.

More than a planet, it's a universe that Mika managed to impose with a few hits, like Relax, take it easy, a chorus that went all around the world. A coloured and childish style, a high pitched voice and above all a rhythm which irresistibly makes you want to dance. This is Mika's trademark.

In only 3 years, he has already sold 8 million albums. Michael Penniman, aka Mika, is an exceptionally talented 26 year old man. Songwriter and singer, he takes care of everything, including costumes and set for his next tour. Everything is made in this warehouse. This is where he feels the best. In the core of this princesses and dragons world coming out of his imagination.

M : I love it. This is like a big fluff, but it's a tree, decorated with a small lion, leaves, hearts, clocks, which is all my universe's language.

I: You look like a child discovering his toys.

M: They're my toys for the next 4 months.

A big boy who dreams in the middle of his toys, and who hasn't completely cut the umbilical cord (Sorry it's a French idiom, meaning he's not totally independent)

M : Here are my mother and my sister making the stuffing for my Toy Boy.

At the back of the room, it is indeed Mum, professional costume maker, making him a giant doll, with Paloma and Jasmine, his two big sisters. Mika has always been protected by the women in his family.

M: And here is my man! He's great isn't he? My mother made it.

I: Does your son give you a lot of work?

    Mrs P : A little bit.

Paloma : He needs us so that everything works.

    M: I need help.

Mrs P: He has always been the same. He has always been mad like this. He has always wanted huge dolls and always wanted to create fantasy since he was a child. He's the same as before.

Mika's childhood is first of all an incredible crossbreeding. Half Lebanese from his mother, half American from his father, he grew up in Paris before settling in England.

M: I'm a percentage of all these countries, and not only one country.

I : Is that an asset?

M : It is an asset, but it can maybe give some identity complex. For a musician, it is not a problem, it gives us personality, it helps.

Mika still lives at his parents', in Kensington, a rich district in London. He lives in the basement of the family house. Mika sleeps, works and composes in these 50m². We could believe we are in one of his music videos, a small tangy world, populated with multicoloured objects, like these Mexican figurines, or this collector bike from the 40s.

M : I collect. I'm always collecting things. For example, I found these masks in China, and they don't really look like anything, but when you put them on, they become something..

Excentric Mika, and to find the evidence of it, you just need to go to his wardrobe, and have a look at all his shoes.

M: It's probably not even a quarter of all the shoes I have. I have a lot more shoes. And, I don't know, I think they are really pretty, so they're not worth putting in a suitcase.

I: Are they shoes for the stage or do you also wear them on the streets?

M: In the streets too, of course. Not these ones, no. I am not going to go to the supermarket wearing these.

In all those collections, there is also inheritance from his childhood. French music discs, in which he finds a part of his inspiration.

M: I grew up with songs by Moustaki, Barbara, Aznavour, Gainsbourg, France Gall.. When I'm sad and I need to be alone and listen to some music, I always listen to French music.

Moments when he is down, because in Mika's past there are also some cracks. At 10, he becomes dyslexic. Failing at school, he shuts down on himself and takes refuge in music. His best friend is then this piano, that he always keeps preciously in his living room.

M: This is the piano that we had in our flat in Paris. It is very cheap, it is totally broken. I wanted to play the piano but because I was dyslexic, I am dyslexic, I couldn't read notes, so if I wanted to play something I had to make up melodies. And this is how it started. I made melodies up.

Mika has developed his own way of composing music.

M : I stand in front of it and I think about a story. So it can start for example with...(plays) There are imaginary movies in my head. So I think of a short scenario and on the piano I am writing the music. And then I write a song on it. 'Blue eyes'

An experienced pianist, with an exceptional voice which covers 3 octaves and a half. Mika has chosen his career since he was 12. His family followed him. Today they still work together. It's with his sister Jasmine that he prepares the presentation book for his next tour.

Photos, illustrations and even mannequins, everything is home made

    showing photos of painted people

M: that's my brother, Fortuné, who is currently studying architecture. He's 18. Those are all friends from his class.

Everybody participates, but in the end, it's Mika who decides

Mika and Jasmine talking in english

Mika has his eyes on everything. For the people close to him, it's not always easy to compose(?) with his exigent, as well as phantasque (a lot of phantasiy) personality.

J: We really want to offer the people who buy this photos that they can not access that easily. It's not ... (sees Mika with his very nice and serious looking mask)

interviewer: Isn't he to difficult to handle the little brother?

    J: oh no, very easy

I: Do you have arguments sometimes?

M: Constantly, we often have arguments

J: I was going to say no

M: Liar! You are lying now. You are lying you are lying, just like your concealer (make up to hide the rings under the eyes... dunno if that is a concealer...) you are lying.

Mika likes to have the last word, in his family as in his career.

In the beginning, no recording company would accept this song. It was labelled as too shifted (not matching the times we are in) and not formatted enough.

    VIENNA

Stubborn, he refuses to change his style (note for myself: luckilyyyy) and makes himself known on the internet. The success is immediate. Since then, he tours all over the world. Two weeks ago, he was in Vienna, Austria. Promotion, non stopping interviews in big/nice hotels is everyday life.

M: It get's slightly annoying if it's the 10th time in the same hotel but no it is pleasant we cannot complain

    I: Lassitude?

M: Not yet, but maybe in an hour

Mika plays the game with his eternal cocktail of elegance and professionalism.

He has even learnt some words in german (sorry but he does not speak german there:) ) for the occasion

    Mika speaks austrian (I think)

But the ? teen isn't always far away and when the journalist takes his guitar out, Mika sings with him

Too bad for his press attachés who get impatient because other journalists are waiting. Mika, for himself, is having fun

Tonight, Mika is on stage, on the biggest stage in Vienna. He has done more than 1000 concerts in four years and he still can't believe it.

In Japan, we are going to do 4 concerts in a few weeks, and in Seoul we are going to do the Olympic room. That's cool, it astonishes me.

As always, the concert is sold out. 5000 fans will be there in a few hours. Always paying attention to every detail, Mika regulates the lighting himself.

speaks english (very sexy accent:) )

The family is never far away, backstage, Jasmine prepares the costumes of YOUUUU all:)

A few moments before the concert, last moment of concentration.

Self confident, Mika just has a little apprehention

I: you discover an audience tonight?

M: Yes for the first time and I don't know how they gonna be: maybe formal, maybe silent (as if?!??!!:) )

But soon after the first notes of one of his hits, the fear goes away. Mika is raging (positive meaning) and involves the audience. Tonight, it's a huge inflatable leg that he throws in the audience. The little dyslexic boy who used to tell himself stories with his piano is forgotten (is he?). Mika has become a stage animal who shares his universe with thousands of fans.
