  1. Bummer Kelsey. Here is a small piece of glittery sunshine hope for you.

If you work for the airlines you can also get cheap flights on other airlines..ie, one that flies to Europe... Just build up that senority ..

Oh yeah, I can buy tickets abroad immediately way cheap. I just need to get that vacation time and money. Maybe next year something will work out!

  2. kelsey, there are buses going back to san francisco all night, see here: http://tripplanner.transit.511.org/mtc/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en - i'm staying at a hostel near powell st, dorm bed for about 22$/night. :wink2:

Oooh! The BART website didn't list anything else and I didn't know that didn't encompass busses. :X Thanks for that link! May I ask where you're staying? And then I might just follow you like a lost puppy dog if I decide to go? :teehee:

  3.

I'd be flying into Oakland. And yeah, I can search priceline and whatnot, just wanted to see if any locals had advice since they know the area and transport system best! My only concern about relying on Bart to get around after the show is that the last train leaves around 12:30 and I don't want to be stranded if the show runs late or wandering around somewhere I don't know alone that late on a Sat night!

  4. I think the For Theater website has a list of close hotels/motels in the area.

Yeah, but they only list "nice" hotels, no establishment would list a Motel 6 on their website, simply not a reputable place for their guests. They'll want to put themselves in a better light. :) Was trying to see if any locals had advice. Thanks anyway!

  5. I'd like to hear some advice too! I'm flying in and would need a rental car I guess, but since I'm under 25, I simply can't afford that. Does anyone know if there's like a Motel 6 or Super 8 within walking distance of the venue so I could just do a taxi to and from the airport maybe?

  6. Hrm, good question. I graduated from college in May, spent a month backpacking and then continued my job search. I'd been applying for jobs since about June of 2008 with nothing on the horizon. I finally found a job and accepted it last week. I will be a customer service rep for a domestic airline. I basically will sit in a call center all night and listen to angry air fliers, which is apparently the worst job to have in the airline industry. http://rickseaney.com/2009/09/23/top-5-worst-airline-jobs/ AWESOME!

However, I love the company and have wanted to work for them for years. I'm hoping to do well in my time at the call center and get promoted into HQ within 5 years. I'd like to work in their marketing research department as I studied marketing and advertising in school.

Basically, I really just need a job that pays as I have $65,000 in student loan debt and about $5,000 in personal debt, including medical bills, to pay off so I'll take anything. I'll probably be working about 80 hours a week, but the more hours the more overtime.

  7. I know! I'm always out of town during SXSW but it's SUCH a big event. I really should try to go one of these years.

Then again, it's some pretty hardcore music fan stuff. :naughty:

I went this year! It was so great. I just did the free shows and parties so I probably spent a total of $20 for 4 days. It's intense, but totally worth it. :)

  8. I love my macbook! I bought it in December on a whim. I went to my school's IT store to buy my mother an iPod for Christmas and they were having a HUGE sale. I bought a 2.13gHz 2GB RAM, 160GB HD for $850, normally $1200. Still paying for it, but definitely worth it. But I totally understand the cost factor. Had it not been for the sale, I wouldn't have gotten it. I probably would've just bought my third PC laptop for $500 or so.

  9. We are so used to huddling in sleeping bags in an alleyway in Brixton to get into one of Mika's London shows that we made an effort to look half decent for an all-seated show for a change. :roftl:

The Sadler's Wells show was June 8, by the way...just in case that's what you meant in your signature. :wink2:

And this is why I should not be online after 2am. Thanks! I knew something looked wrong but I just don't even realize it. I knew that!

  10. Ahh, cool! I was at that London show too, along with Christine. It was freakin' awesome. :wub2:

    Keep us posted! :biggrin2:

It really was! I had no idea what to expect and got incredibly lost wandering around by myself looking for Sadler's Well and then nearly missed the last train back to the suburb I was staying in. Totally worth it though. I think I stuck out like the sore thumb though, typical young American backpacker while everyone else looked rather fancy and nice.

  11. He was at South By South West in Austin 2007, but that was ages ago! He'd better come back. :teehee:

Right, I spent the spring of 2007 living in Florida, of course. I made it my duty to avoid knowing what I was missing during SXSW. Anyway, I never got to go to SXSW as my college had its spring break a different week than UT so it always conflicted!

  12. Welcome welcome Kelsey! I'm Kira, and I'm also from Texas! Represent the Southern US Mika crew--maybe we can get him down here some day!

And it'd be so great if you could go to Oakland show! Two Texans... that'd be wild. :roftl:

It so would! Everyone really needs to meet at least one Texan in their life. We're pretty great, if I say so myself. I pine for the day that Mika will come to Texas! Hello, we've got Austin! You can't say that at least Austin doesn't know good music. :)

  13. Hi! I love that Mika's fans are worldwide. Although, when I told my friends excitedly about seeing Mika and London, I got a lot of blank stares. Hopefully they listen and love though!

  14. Hi! I'm Kelsey and I'm new to this website, but not a really new Mika fan. I saw him at the London show this past June while I was spending a month backpacking around the UK and a couple other countries. Definitely couldn't afford it, but so worth it considering he never quite makes it down to my part of the US. I graduated college in May and have been joining all sorts of websites to keep me entertained while on the job hunt. The good news is, I did recently get a job with a domestic airline and can fly for free, so hopefully this means I can get to more US Mika shows!

Sorry that was long. I babble sometimes! :)

  15. nope, you can print the ticket yourself, but address has to be the one of the credit card holder, so if i try another address it prob. won't accept my credit card payment. well, i'll arrive in LA a week before the gig, guess i just have to hope it's not sold out by then and go and buy a ticket at some box office (is there one at the venue, does anyone know?).

I'm pretty sure that there is. If you tweet @LiveNation, they're pretty good at replying and they're the company putting on the Hollywood show. :)

I'm considering flying out for the Oakland and LA shows too! Just have to figure out the car/hotel logistics...and the silly job schedule.
