  1. Can anyone explain to me what does "I´ll say nothing on your microphone till you swear to take me home" :mf_rosetinted: mean??

I have to say that sentence was never crystal-clear to me. Especially not as one foot boy has a tendency to change meaning with my mood. But in general I think that one foot boy is about experiencing pressure and lack of acceptance and understanding (quite possibly workrelated such), and "I'll say nothing on your microphone till you swear to take me home" = I won't even try to be productive for you unless you accept me.

Now that I think about it one foot boy is sort of like a follow up to Grace Kelly but where the person has more power but therefore also more responsibility and expectations (on his shoulders).

Else I def agree with suzie, interpret the songs anyway you want :-). Just enjoy the music. :pinkbow:

  2. Okay I think I finally understand what you (and probably Camille too) are saying  I have been hearing this lyric for 4.5 years now so it's hard to adopt a fresh perspective. :naughty:

So with much, much reading between the lines it would be...

Lonel(iness) is(/feels) so (much more) lonely (when you're living) alone.

    Oh yeeeih! :groupwave:

    Yup. That's how I interpret/feel that sentence!

Also, I get the entire "Argh I don't get it! what the *** does it mean???" quite often too. It's really annoying... So I'm happy if we've managed to make the sentence a bit more understandable.

Toyboy does have more complete lyrics indeed. But I actually prefer the slightly more confusing ones as I find them more interesting.

  3. Well perhaps I understand it if he is saying loneliness makes him feel alone, but why does that require 3 instances of lonely/lonely/alone? It should only be 2 and even to say that loneliness is a lonely state is already a necessary truth. It's like saying that your black cat is black. Yeah we know the cat is black because it's a black cat. :freak:

I know your instincts may tell you that reiterating the concept of loneliness 3 times within 5 words is a way of emphasizing the emotion but it just sounds redundant and the way he constructed it is totally incorrect.

I'd say it's more like saying "Your black cat is black in the darkness."

That it sounds redundant to you and is an incorrect construction I can't argue with. Welcome to the world of arts! :-)

  4. It would only make sense if the first "lonely" was a noun but it's not. i.e. loneliness is so lonely alone. But even that is horribly awkward as all those references to being alone/lonely are completely redundant. To say that loneliness is lonely is self-evident to the point of being a meaningless statement.

Gramatically I would definitely have to agree with you. Especially as English is not my first language. But it fits perfectly well with the emotions in the song and for me represents the new level of loneliness that creeps up on you when you live alone. You can feel lonely because you've recently been dumped / are new / have secrets /whatever. And then you can feel lonely-lonely when on top of all that home is an empty flat.

However, that's obviously only my interpretation :-P. But the sentence really resounded with me when I first heard it so I'm happy he wrote it :-).

  5. I think it's great he's doing songs in French. And I think he should be doing songs in whatever language he likes. I've lived in three countries and there's a different vibe in all languages... and I become a slightly different person depending on which language I speak* (normally cause the cultures are different and hence demand different responses). I love that there can be so many diverse sides to a person, and think using and developing all of them should be encouraged. That way we all can become one happy understanding family :group_hug:

So I completely get why he might want to go play in French for a while. And if that's what he wants to do that's what he should do. Cause life is, as quite nicely pointed out in EMD, not infinitely long.

PS. Lonely is so lonley alone makes perfect sense...

    * This is obviously not true for everybody... but it seems to be quite common at least.

  6. I def like it :-). I think French music normally is a bit more monotonic, at least that's the impression I got when I lived there. It takes some getting used to and then it suddenly becomes pretty amazing :-). So maybe that's why "Elle me dit" is more monotonic than usual, it's written in a French/Mikalandish music culture mindset rather than a Brittish/Mikalandish?

  7. Just a quick question... anyone knows if the any of the addesses above are still valid? I've got a letter to send but don't seem to find any recent posts with any of the addresses above.
