  1. :yay: I'm so excited to see you two again! So are you going to drive up early in the morning or will you come the night before? I'm going up on Thursday and I'm thinking all of the MFCers in town could get together for dinner or drinks the night before? Anyone interested?

Oh, great!  As I said above, I'll be in NYC the night before and would love to have dinner or get together to say hi in advance!

As for meeting Mika afterward... well, you never know. I'm sure his schedule is going to be tight since he has to go directly to Montreal for the show the next day.

But there's always that possibility that we'll get a minute or two with him.  :thumb_yello:

Having trouble finding a great place for a meeting. One suggestion is Sarabeths Central Park South.  Looks like they can handle small groups and have availability on Thursday (according to Open Table). Reasonable prices, decent wine, not too loud... Totally open to other suggestions.

  2. Maybe Mika will play Lollipop bc it was in the recent Pitch perfect2 movie? Like Jesse J sang her PP2 song flashlight?

I am very interested in a little get-together! It'll be my first time in NY, we are staying near Central Park near the Met. I do have late dinner reservations but can meet before or after!

Good thinking...Lollipop is definitely a contender because of PP2.  Hope to meet you in NYC.

  3. Thanks for posting the arrival info, Deb!  Definitely no tickets required for this show, right? Looks like some of the GMA shows require them, and I'm just triple-checking as I don't want to take any chances!! Would be awesome to have designated fan club spots,.  We are fully prepared to be there around 5:15 or so, but not sleeping out though. :bed: .

With regard to the get-together, we are driving up after work on Thursday, so we could be in NYC for a late-ish bite or some drinks. We do have our 12-year old daughter with us, though, so can't go to a seedy bar.  :naughty:  We're staying on the south edge of the park, so somewhere between Times Square and the park would be good for us...not that everyone has to make plans around us.  I don't have any specific suggestions right now, but let me surf a bit and see what's there...

  4. Ack! I didn't even think about the possibility of bad weather!

Well, I suppose Mika will be worth it, even if I get rained on. Besides it won't be the first time that I've been drenched waiting for Mika :naughty:

I will do my best to make it, and I'm not worried about the weather at all.  My daughter wants to go as well. Sooo want to be there to support MIKA!  Schedule is a bit tough because we are hosting a big family reunion on the 4th and then driving to Montreal for the concert on the 5th.  We are insane, but what the heck...

  5. Hello everyone. I have just recently joined this site. This is my very first post here. (or anywhere actually). I will try to get this right.

I have been a "Mika Fan" since 2007 and thanks to my FANTASTIC wife (MikaSuave) I am now a full fledged "Mikaholic" !!  I don't know if I can give her ALL the credit for the conversion, after all one listen from Mika coupled with that "Good Guy" charm of his left her little to do...

As she mentioned in her post, our children are big fans as well. In our household not a single day goes by without one of us in the family busting out a Mika verse or three....

We had a WONDERFUL family trip to Montreal for all of us enjoy Mika at the OSM. Much to my surprise my brother (Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin kind of guy) said it was one of or not the best performance he has ever witnessed !

Well enough rambling on. The new site is AWESOME !! Thank you for a nice place to interact with like minded Mika fans. Keep all the Mika news coming and I will do my best to keep up.

Hi hubby dearest! I'm so happy to see your fist post here on MFC!!  :)  You are right--it's pretty easy to convert people into MIKA fans. He does all the heavy lifting, one just needs to expose people to his awesome music and his charming personality, add a whole bunch of wide-eyed gushing about him, and VOILA!!  Converting your heavy metal brother was quite the accomplishment, but you didn't mention that we also managed to turn your 75-year old mother into a MIKA lover.  Ha!  She now owns the entire catalog of his music and is spreading the good word among her senior friends. Too funny, and proof positive that there are no boundaries to the MIKA love.  Conversions to date: 7 (ages 5 to 75) and working on more...

  6. :blush-anim-cl::fisch: Again for one of the both places in New-York i would need a place to stay.. to go it is not such a problem i am in Montreal.. but don't know at all where to stay.. Suggestion anyone? :wink2::naughty:

Not sure if this helps at all, but my group will be going to Manhattan after the Verboten show and stay at a hotel near Webster Hall, so we will be in walking distance for the second concert.

[EDIT: Hotel details deleted as you probably shouldn't advertise on a public thread where you're staying. Stalkers are everywhere. Seriously. ]

I'm just so excited to see Mika twice, and so soon after Montreal. My face hurts from all the grinning. Hope to meet some of you there! :thumb_yello:

  7. On Mika's official facebook page:

"My new track Talk About You was released in France and other countries this week! My co-writers and I wrote it in the height of the summer. The song captures summer crush and the rush it brings. It became immediately obvious that the melody was referencing Sarà Perché Ti Amo and Only Want To Be With You. Instead of changing it or hiding it, and potentially ruining the vibe of the song, I decided to interpolate those melodies into the song and share the writing credit with them, with the original writers’ full permission. That is far better. Some music comes from no where, some is inspired by other songs and others totally reference them. In that case its always good to be crystal clear before a record even comes out. I am extremely happy to start sharing new music with everyone. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to share this new album with you very soon. Mika X"

So glad he officially explained that for those numb-nuts crying plagiarism. Always jumping to conclusions before checking facts. At least it's free publicity, so joke is on them. :naughty:

  8. Hopefully he'll be able to stop talking about his boyfriend long enough to talk about this song and how it was made, like the TOOL track by tracks. I look forward to hearing his insights, to hear if he's aware of the similarity to other songs.

And to hearing it live, i can't wait to find out what he does with it live! Hopefully he'll perform it accoustically on some radio/tv shows :wub2:

I totally agree with you...can't wait to hear it live (undoubtedly will be amazing!!!), and really hoping for the track by track videos. I watch the ones from TOOL all the time. They are insightful, and I just love it when Mika geeks out to his own tunes.:thumb_yello: Would likely shed light on the subject of whether he intentionally sampled/channeled the Ricchi e Poveri song or if he credited the authors afterward when he became aware of the similarity. I grew up in Europe and remember that song well, but it never entered my mind when I listened to Talk about You. When you think about it, with the vast number of songs out there, it is incredibly difficult to come up with a melody or lyrics that doesn't in some way remind you of another song. Just saying...

And just for the record, I do love the new song. The more I listen, the more I like it. It makes me happy!! :) My kids (5 & 12) also loved it immediately.

  9.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, Kumazzz!!! Was dying to hear it, and who knows how long we will have to wait to be able to buy it here in the US.

I LOVE IT! It makes me smile and bounce in my chair, and it's oh so catchy! :thumb_yello: It's definitely a little more commercial than some of my favorite obscure MIKA songs, but I think it's going to sound great when I see him on stage this summer! Already got our tickets for the Estivale concert in Switzerland, and I hope he will come to the US as well.:wink2:

  10. you're very welcome :wink2:

well..hem... it's Switzerland... you know how it is :aah:

But it's not in the most expensive part of Switzerland. Hotels and meals for instance may be far less expensive there than in "big" cities such as Geneva or Zurich :thumb_yello:

Hi Nanou. I'm fairly sure my family and I will be able to travel to Switzerland around this concert. Since you have attended this event before, can you tell me whether the VIP tickets are worth buying? If they don't get me closer to the stage, I might as well just go with the regular tickets at less than 1/2 price. Thanks!

  11. Seeing Mika on video just can't compare to seeing him live in person, can it? Sorry to hear you missed Mika's previous gigs in Philly. The good thing about being on the East Coast is that he usually does a few shows there so you could go to more than one to make up for lost time.

Regarding meet & greets with Mika, just make sure you RSVP in the before the show thread for the gigs you're attending in case. It might also help to make yourself known to some other MFCers when you're there. Sorry you missed the one in Montreal :(

MFC fan meetups are usually organized in the gig threads too, or maybe in a special thread like in the case of the big Montreal one, so just pay attention to the forum & you should be fine. Perhaps we'll meet each other at one some day :D

Union Transfer was a really nice venue, i'd never been to a gig there before. Usually in venues its so hot & but this one wasnt and it was so clean compared to The Trocadero or the TLA :teehee:

handy forum tip: i noticed you've replied to all of us one by one. you can use the "MQ" button (next to the "quote" button at the botton of every post) to reply to more than one person at once, it's a bit easier than doing it one at a time.

You are absolutely right: As good as the concert recordings are, there is no substitute for being there. You just have to see and hear it for yourself to believe it. My brother-in-law, who was not a fan before Montreal (does not like pop music in general) and only came along because he didn't want to be left behind, was totally converted by Mika's performance. Now he wants to see more shows and is always quoting Mika lyrics. Love it. :)

Thanks for the feedback on the Union Transfer and the other tips. Will definitely use the MQ feature going forward and will participate in the other threads. If only there were more hours in the day...

Thanks for your support, and hope to meet you and other MFC-ers someday soon.

  12. :bye: MikaSuave, nice to have you here! :huglove:

It's very nice that all your family are mikaddict:thumb_yello:, and glad to know there're more mikafans in US~ I'm a Chinese national studying in Iowa, a bit far away for Philly, no one around me really know MIKA .

That's really impressive that you speak four languages!

Welcome, and have a lot fun here!

Hi and thank you. How cool that you came all the way from China to study here. I hope Iowa is treating you well. If not, come to Philly! :)

I really never run into anyone here who knows Mika either, except for those I've converted myself. Working on my influencing skills so I can convert even more. He he :naughty:

  13. Hello!

Was just telling a friend how much I would want to relive that extraordinary adventure that was Mika's shows with OSM.

We were lucky it happened in our backyard, but it's hard to see everyone going back home...

Glad you could be part of it.

    Welcome aboard!

I'm so happy we made the 8 hour drive to Montreal. The performances were magical, and I'm elated that they will be released on DVD!

Despite the crazy cold we experienced in Montreal, I have to say you live in a really beautiful city. Everyone was so friendly, and we all agreed that we will definitely come back for a longer stay. IN THE SUMMER through! :mf_rosetinted:

  14. Hi and welcome! have fun, enjoy Mika and his music! :bye:

Hi there. Thanks for the welcome, and I see you're from Barcelona. Such a beautiful city! I've spent quite a few vacations at the Costa Brava in my youth. Lovely place and lovely folks.
