Mika Rocks The Roxy At "Secret" L.A. ShowBy Lyndsey ParkerPosted on 04/16/09 at 05:28:39 pm Last night, Mika played a secret free, all-ages, all-awesome show at the Roxy on L.A'.s Sunset Strip. And by "secret," I mean "promoted on Perez Hilton's blog" and "blasted to Mika's entire PR database by his publicist the day before."

But hey, secret or no secret , a chance to see Mika premiere old favorites plus yet-to-be-released new material in an intimate environment for his biggest fans (who actually collected their guaranteed-entry wristbands from an ice cream truck parked in Beverly Hills) was still a sweet treat.

Mika was especially sweet, literally, to devotees who'd journeyed all the way from Britain, and had been waiting outside the Roxy since 9am, to witness his first gig of 2009: He sent them hot cocoa to keep them warm in the "chilly" L.A. air during their daylong wait. (Yes, sometimes it does get cold in Los Angeles.)

But the atmosphere inside the Roxy was anything but chilly, as the Mika-heads welcomed their idol "out of retirement" extremely warmly, so much so that he played "Grace Kelly" twice. Just listen to all the deafening cheers and right-on-cue handclaps in the clips below, the middle three of which are brand-new songs:

OMG... so they actually could crawl in your ears!!!!! earwigs must be banished fro ever... I send them to room 101!!!

Why ARE they called earwigs? They don't live in, look like or eat ears OR wigs

I always used to think when I was little that they crawled in your ears!!! :blink:ewww.... still makes me feel queesy!!

I don't really mind wasps.... it's earwigs that I don't get!!!creepy little things they are!!!

Acousticly....the Sage in Newcastle was designed to be fantastic....but it's not small. I've never been to a gig there before tho!

However, I vote for the intimatge gigs in every member of the MFC's house.....

I tell you what andi, darkest Doncaster was scary, the streets were packed with clubbers, drunk hardly any clothes on even thought the weather was freezing and all looking for kebabs.

Reminded me of my youth haha.

Well everytime I used the bag that I had that night bits kept dropping out. I was finding them all over. Sometimes a bit embarassing!

I wonder if the cleaner found all the bits that were so lovingly hidden around the room. They may still be there.

there were some strategically placed pieces around the ceiling if I remember correctly....

I also wanted to say a huge thanks to Babs and Rose....without whom we would have gone hungry that night.......so thankyou:wub2:

Doncaster was a bit weird, yes, the venue kinda crappy as a gym type thing, but Niki, Droopsy and I had the fantastic front row center position, so that was quite all right .

This was the gig when DaMastah suddenly jumped from the stage into the pit, and while I was looking down fumbling with my camera (as I saw a good close-up-pic-photo opportunity) suddenly I felt a tug on my arm, and next thing I know I see Mika right in front of me, standing on the barrier.

It turns out he was using my arm to pull himself onto the barrier, nearly giving me a heart attack in the process (I wasn't expecting it )

Then, suddenly, I noticed that as he was leaning towards us, the audience, my hand had landed on his (very sweaty) stomach, and I pulled it away in horror at the realisation of my fangurl moment .

that is a superb pic.......how flippin close can you get!!!! lucky thing!!!

this is the gig where the girl standing behind me kept saying to her friends she was going to get to the front and she didn't care who she pushed out of the way to get there......she ended up causing problems with Ruth's friend she was sooooo rude.....

it was also the gig of confetti..of a different nature.....wonder if it's still there????
