  1. I can't believe anyone would even bother to debate Mika's sexuality.

How many hints do you need?

Does he have to literally burst into flames whilst singing Judy Garland in a Dior gown?

It took Michael Stipe forever to finally come out, and when he did it it got a very 'yeah, we knew' response.

    Mika might be straight?

    Yeah, Ellen too.

    and OJ Simpson is innocent.

    Nice troll. Hope nobody bites...

  2. Hey, great interview! And thanks for putting up for free for us all to read!

It's curious how he talks about the person and artist as almost being 2 different people - he seems to have his life clearly partitioned into 2 separate domains. I'm not sure how that really works as a singer-songwriter, especially with Mika, where his character appears to be imprinted in every bar of the music; perhaps it does if you don't court publicity through your private life, and let your performances do the talking.

I'm also thrilled to hear he has negotiated a deal that gives him artistic freedom - so hopefully we will see many more great and original songs come from him.

  3. I don't think anyone should be negative or rude about bringing the topic up...

However, my opinion is that if this were a public forum in a workplace, would you think it appropriate to discuss a colleage's sexuality, or if you are younger, would it be right to discuss another pupil or teachers sexuality on a school forum?

So, why do we think that a pop star's life suddenly becomes public property?

  4. What I want to know is why people think Mika might be gay in the first place? I know enough straight and gay people to know that sterotypes are completely wrong; one guy I know sounds exactly like Julian Clary, yet is completely straight, and another is as hard as nails - and gay.

Rather like Mika I got moved around a lot as a child, and guess what - I got all the same homophobic jibes that Mika was called at school. Does that mean I am gay?

So we have a young guy who dresses in unconventional clothes and sings in a falsetto voice, and the press immediately equate this with being gay. I suspect some of the press guys are the same bigoted morons that taunt any kid that doesn't fit in at school with the words 'fag' and 'poof'.

Whether Mika is or isn't, I just feel sorry for him - he's clearly a sensitive, thoughtful and deep chap who's just lost the majority of his privacy, and I for one am not interested in probing into areas that only his close friends should know about.

  5. On the CD it is definately 'bore', but the first time I sang along to it my mind slipped up and 'whore' came out  . Quite clever - keeps it clean for the kids (please tell me that 10 year olds don't know what a 'player' is!), but anyone old enough to know is going to hear something else :wink2:. To be quite honest I think overt profanity in music shows a lack of imagination...

  6. Ah sorry .. OCD - Obessive Compulsive Disorder , like having to do something right all the time or the same thing time and time again

Like me posting on here! .......:wink2:

Oh %$!, I didn't realise perfectionism was considered an OCD as well!!!

  7. Hi Emily!

Mika has been as much of a surprise over here in the UK - we have 'samey' music as well!

    Hi.

I'm sure the rest of you guys know what's next.

A slipperly slope decending into obsession! I wonder when the self-help groups will start up... :wink2:

  8. hello from the snow walloped eastern united states. i recently saw mika on a small segment aired on mtv about new artists. i listened to his music and FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. this doesn't happen with me very often, so he must be especially exceptional. well just saying hello!

Me too - glad too see I'm not the only one to loose his senses in this way! I know the moment I heard him sing that he was a little bit special...

And can we have some our snow back too? :wink2: I would normally be skiing in the Alps right now, except there is hardly any there!

  9. I think this sums up the 'management' within the UK music scene for the past 5-10 years. Why publish some independent minded artist when you can pull the strings of a desperate 18 year old wannabe who's never had a music lesson in his/her life?

If I were a music exec and had Mika in a room with me I'd have locked the doors until he signed a contact!

Lets just hope Mika lasts lot longer than these one or two album 'pop idol' wonders - and I hope the record company continues to give him the artistic freedom and time required to produce the great music he is capable of.
