  1. Wow, you all are awesome!! I feel like I have my own tourguides!!

And, thanks for the Lebanese restaurant tips---I am half Syrian/half Slovak, so Lebanese food is pretty darn similar to Syrian food and will be great to have. I know Indian restaurants are popular there, but I get so sick on curry, that I have to avoid those, oh well.

I am so excited for this trip. I wonder if there is a place I can listen to Mika's concert at Somerset House???

    Thanks, everyone!!!!

  2. I am so excited to travel to London in July---it will be when Mika's concert is at Somerset--but my boss approved the trip this week and tix were already sold out.

I will be taking a course at the Homeopathic Hospital (I think it is in the Bloomsbury district) for two weeks. I have never been to London and am so excited. I want to see the Tower of London definitely, but what else do you suggest?

I am not sure what my hours at the hospital will be---considering here in Philly I work 12-14 hour days----but I hope my weekends will be free.

    Thanks in advance!!!

  3. Mika is mentioned in the latest issue of Spin magazine (US magazine)--twice!

First on p 65 in the article "The Best of the Bottom of the Bill" referring to the festivals this year:

    Mika

    Coachella

A disco-breathing, loungey Freddie Mercury disciple, Mika throws a lifeline to the festival-goers who want to like Scissor Sisters but get turned off by their machismo.

Then in the record review section:

    Mika

Life in Cartoon Motion, ***1/2 stars

Not trapped in the closet, giddy fop feels like dancin'.

From the Beatles at their campiest to the Scissor Sisters at their catchiest, this Lebanon-born Londoner comes on like an agreeably eager compendium of every gay and gay-ish pop act of the past 40 years. Sometimes he veers too close to his source material and surrenders to sap (check the Robbie Williams-sucking "Erase" with its fleeting rip of the Cranberries' "Zombie"), but mostly this UK-chart-topping magpie makes good with bountiful tunes and Broadway vocal dazzle that could slay even the High School Musical crowd. 4. As I was watching the US Dancing with the Stars results show Tuesday night, I heard the host saying something about next week's show blah blah blah and "the music of Mika". I thought I was hearing things...I am going to his concert tomorrow night, so maybe I wanted to hear his name :)

I know on the results show they usually have a live performer...last night was Dionne Warwick. Maybe they will just do a dance to one of his songs? They are doing the jive and tango next week. I checked the DWTS message board and didn't find anything. Anyone know anything?? or am I just hearing things???

  5. Yeah, I know, I have to mentally rock out to his music...don't think my patients would appreciate me singing the lyrics to lollipop or big girls without the context!!!

Most of my patients can't even pronounce my name anyhow---it's a long eastern european name, so they just call me Dr V.

I hope Mika makes it big in the states!!!

  6. You know, it is a great movie. You really get caught up in the characters. My older brother loves it---he has the poster that Leroy Nieman did of Sylvester Stallone, I bought him the Rocky Bearboa bear, and they have these cool figures that came out with the last movie. Very lifelike.

Unfortunately, there are many not so great things about living in Philly. Traffic is absolutely awful and city tax on my wages. errrgghhh...

  7. Hmm...well, the first film was almost all in Philly. And the most recent one had a lot of shots in philly. Of course, it was a big deal when he was here.

If you ever come to visit Philly, you need to see the Rocky Statue that was just placed at the bottom of the Art Museum Steps...the art museum didn't feel it was art enough to be place at the TOP of the steps!!

The city council had to vote to get it placed anywhere near the museum!!!

And, you know M Night Shyamalan exclusively films all his stuff in and around Phila!! I was in school when Unbreakable was filmed and he was filming like two blocks away from my apt!
