  1. I listen to classical music from time to time. I think studying it at A-Level really deepened my appreciation for it. I mostly like Renaissance Era and Baroque Era music (like

    , Gabrieli,
...), 'cause I love countertenors, lutes and harpsichords. Modern classical music tends to be hit and miss with me - I'm not so into the heavily experimental side of it, but I like it when a composer uses some unusual technique, like use of tone rows, for instance, but manages to create beautiful music with it. An example of this would be 'The Lamb' by John Tavener. Stuff like
I can take every now and then, but stuff like this I don't really 'get'.
  2. MC Hammer's Can't Touch This was a sample of a Michael Jackson song (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong)

Actually, it used a sample from Rick James' 'Super Freak' :)

I find that sometimes sampling can be good, other times it irritates the hell out of me. I think Eminem's 'Like Toy Soldiers' (sampled from 'Toy Soldiers' by Martika) is an example of what I consider to be 'good' sampling. Also, 'Bittersweet Symphony' by The Verve used a sample from

of 'The Last Time' by The Rolling Stones.
  3. We met shortly in London, didn't we? Just wanted to tell that I really enjoyed to hear about your studies and your staying in Japan. It all sounded so fascinating! What are you going to do in future? Translate, teach or do research?

Yes, we did, it was nice to meet you! :)

I mostly want to translate in the future, though I could possibly teach English or something too. My childhood dream was actually to become a professional musician :biggrin2: but I now think that I ought to make a career out of languages, and then if I ever actually complete enough of my songs (I have hundreds lying around unfinished! XD; ), perhaps I could put them up on YouTube or something LOL. :)
