  1. AWESOME STUFF HOLLY! Didn't know my silly self was in your video

I could see your microphones, btw, one stage and from behind you folks up front.

I could definitely see your microphones from the balcony! It really produced a great effect. I wish I could have taken pictures so I could have captured it, but was afraid my camera would be taken since security in the past at EF has been so harsh.

  2. I haven't done my report for this show YET . . .ahhh it has been CrAzY ever since I got home! :aah: And as you all know my computer is beyond slow . . so, I am at the library right now trying to get everything uploaded! I want to just post pics and all before I do my report . . so I have time here . . aaahhh we all know this was the BEST show EVER! My gawd!!!! AMAZING!

ha ha ha . .. here is what the queue was like :teehee:

This is a great video, Holly. Thanks for sharing it! (Gotta love the pole...:roftl:) We didn't get to the line until almost 6:30. I'm glad my husband likes Mika and wants to come with me, but I could never get him to come much earlier than that to wait in a line in the cold. As it is, after standing with me in line for ten minutes and telling me how old (no, not cold!) he felt, he walked over to the bar right next to the venue to watch the Phillies game until 7 when the doors were supposed to open.

  3. Welcome! If you are too old, then so am I (and a lot of other people on here)! As long as your interest is Mika then this is the place for you...

I don't post often, but I really like this fan club and all of the interesting people here from all over the world that share a common love of Mika and his music.

James Herbert? I'll have to go look him up...

  4. aw okidokie thanks, i just want this space for sharing music to workout !

Great idea for a thread! Here's some of my exercise music: Yaz (Goodbye '70's, Don't Go, Didn't I Bring Your Love Down); Blondie (Heart of Glass); Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive); The Vapors (Turning Japanese); Violent Femmes (Blister in the Sun); Men Without Hats (Safety Hats); Lipps, Inc (Funkytown); Boney M (Ma Baker, Daddy Cool, Brown Girl in the Ring, Rasputin, Sunny); Stereo Total (Comme un garcon); Saint Eteinne (He's on the phone); 4 Non-Blondes (What's Up Dance Mix)

and...MIKA, of course. I find I workout harder whenever a MIKA song comes around...Love Today, Ring Ring, Lollipop, Relax, Big Girl, and Grace Kelly.

Wow, 37 pounds! You are inspirational, David...

  5. Oh, this reminds me of something I meant to mention... maybe here's

not the place for it, but while we're waiting for the reports... :wink2:

Has anyone else (who's been to earlier shows) noticed that the pre-show music is a little different now? The set still ends with 9 to 5, but now it includes

Standing in the Way of Control, Sweet Dreams, Train in Vain... a few other

songs I don't remember hearing before. And wasn't there some Doobie

Brothers before? I didn't hear it this time.

    OK, I'm getting a little too obsessive, aren't I? I'll stop... :naughty:

    dcdeb

Thanks for all of the great reviews posted so far! I'm looking forward to reading more after I get back from work..

Deb, I didn't realize they play the same pre-show music at all of the venues. For some reason I thought, it was chosen by each venue, but these were the same songs played in Philly, too. I must admit that when I heard Standing in the Way of Control and Sweet Dreams I started to suspect that Mika may have chosen the music. They also played Yaz and Fleetwood Mac (The exact songs are escaping me though, but my ears perked up since I love Yaz.) Anyway, to answer your original question, yes, this music was different than what I remember from the last time I saw him in the summer at the Nokia in NYC---that mix was even more eclectic and included Love Train.

  6. I hope all of you still interested on reading my report.

Well, I got to the venue at 3pm and suprisely there were only 5 people in front of me which I love of course. I immediately recognized Naomi and Cynthia. I went straight to say "hello". They were so sweet. This time I got a chance to have a conversation with them. After an hour Sara arrived, which I don't really remember her forum name. I know is sunshine with something else. We clicked so quick. She was so nice to me as well as her mother. The first 3 hours; the cold did not bother at all, but when it was around 6pm I could not feel my toes anymore. But it was all worthy. Finally around 7pm I met A. Clay. What a doll. She had a sign that said "looking for LUCY" She was so nice and gave me a gift;a flashing heart!!!

To make my story short, I was in front of the stage which is my second time. I got push a lot and I have some bruises on my arms. I felt them this morning!! LOL. MIKA was amazing like always. He look a bit skinnier than before and at some point I saw some sadness in his eyes.

By now, you might know all the details about the show and MIKA being happy and welcomed by the audience!!

Let me go straight to the after show event!!!

I waited for Sara and her mother outside because they were buying some merchandise.

Almost 100 people went to the back door waiting for MIKA  At that moment I knew I was not going to be able to see him but I gave it a shot with Sara. The security reminded us more than three times that MIKA was not going to take pics with anyone or sign anything. The crowd cleaned a lot almost half people left. I previously had an ugly doll for him. I got the same because I wanted MIKA to sign it but at this moment I just wanted to see him and give him the doll.

Sara and myself started yelling his name and he went to us. THANK GOD I DID NOT FREEZE!!! I actually had a brief conversation with him. I gave him the doll and said "I hope you like and he was looking at me with a big smile and then look at the doll and squeezed it. I said "I'll see you on Saturday in NYC and he just smile back at us. I hugged sara's mom of excitement and then apologize she was "I understand".

This was the best show so far!!! I love him more than before. He is so human and down to earth. I LOVE YOU MIKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I am just waiting for tomorrow to see him again!!!!!!!

    Hi Lucy,

I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to meet you, but I do recall seeing someone holding up the doll in the crowd so I think I saw your doll!

BTW, did your husband get to do anything fun while he was here? [i'm sorry, I love this city (usually) and I want everyone else to, also!]

I am really regretting not getting tickets to go up for the NYC show tomorrow. Have a great time and be sure to bring back a lot of good memories!

  7. Got there pretty late (7:10ish?) and the line was looooooong. I left my coat in the car 'cause I thought we wouldn't have to wait much before the doors opened, but I still managed to pretty much freeze by the time we went in.

    --Jack

When we were waiting in line, a security guard told us that he had never seen so many people line up outside before the show for someone he had never even heard of before!

He explained the Raffa story to some girls who asked about that, and actually had some interesting things to say on why he decided to include it and why he finds it funny (not Raffa's tragedy but the way it's told so that people can't really make out if it's real or not), etc.

    --Jack

It was wonderful to stand just inches away and hear him explain his thoughts about the story. To hear him talk like that in that proximity, you realize, my God, he IS human, yet there is something exceptional about him that exudes at these moments as well. I wish I could have videotaped that for posterity.

Re: Lollipop video--Lollipop was actually the one song of the night where it wasn't amaaaazing, but just kinda normal. I think he was entirely worn out by that point. :naughty:

    --Jack

I felt the same thing! After the show, my friend who came with us asked how this compared to Nokia and I told him I thought this show was even better than Nokia, except I thought Lollipop was more exuberant at Nokia. I think you are right that he must have been tired after giving that performance.

    12. I sure wrote a lot. I know I sound like a maniac, but I am really quite normal. In fact, I am sitting here in my professional job acting like it is just another day. Little do they all know. Next time I write, I hope to have returned to earth.

It was very hard to act like it was just another day today, wasn't it? The dreary rain that we had here today couldn't even get me down.

    WOW Another amazing concert !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great energy as always. actually more since it was THE first concert in US.

i have 3 or 4 full videos of songs happy ending, grace kelly, lollipop, and may be missionary man. and a lot more. and 40 some pictures. i will put them up soon. i am at work all tierd right now. so they will be up tonight. and thn i m off to NYC

Can't wait to relive the night!

I'm so happy to have met so many MFC'ers there...YOU GUYS ROCK. xoxoxoxo

mgpm, I am so happy I had the chance to meet you and your daughter! Glad you had a safe trip home. BTW, sorry I kept telling you the manager's name was Jerry; I think it is John?

Oh, sorry!! Hahah, misunderstanding... I meant to write down InfiniteGreen but copy-pasted the wrong name! :blush-anim-cl:

Actually, I'm not even sure that would be right. I know I met InfiniteGreen but am a bit confused whether she was the MFCer I met while still in the venue, with mgpm, or one of the MFCers hanging around with Cynthia et al.

    --Jack

Hi Jack! I am the person you met when you were with mgpm in the venue---I was wearing my glasses. I remember when you introduced yourself to me and said, "I'm Jack," I couldn't believe I was actually meeting THE Jack. By the way, you get my vote for best dressed, too. Of course, there was the man with the glittery silver hat that sparkled like a disco ball, but he did not even come close!

  8. Thank you, InfiniteGreen for starting the reports for us. Sounds wonderful and glad you met some of the other MFCers. Thanks also to DS for another report! Yay!

You're welcome! Unfortunately, I took the no camera policy seriously and did not bring my digital, just a disposable in case it was confiscated. Don't fret, the place turned out not to be very strict about the cameras/cell phones at all and I saw a lot of people taking pictures even video, I think, so hopefully that will appear soon. Strangely enough, while they were not strict about cameras, they did frisk everyone at the doors and security made my husband throw away his ink pen and his eyedrops before they would allow him to enter! They also took away a basket of lollipops from someone.

  9. Yay, people are coming back!!

Thanks for the reports, and don't worry we DEVOUR every word. Just keep 'em comin'!!!:wink2:

And A.CLAY c'mon, don't keep us waiting too long!!

After the concert/meeting, we shared a cab with A.Clay and her son-in-law and dropped them off at a restaurant that is open late. I think they are planning to stay in Philly for a day or two so unless she finds a computer, you may have to wait. On the other hand, she is resourceful so I would not be surprised if she popped in tonight!

  10. It was an amazing show. I saw Mika in NYC at the Nokia in June and I think I liked this show even better if that is possible. I'm not good at estimating how many people were there, but it looked like it was sold out since the place was packed. Everyone was so into the concert---singing the words, waving and dancing around. I was so proud of my Philly people (and adopted Philly people) tonight! I think we made him feel very welcomed! When he spoke to the Philly crowd early on, he told us that he had a confession which I did not quite hear--- I believe it was something like he was a little worried about coming to the States and starting this tour, but seeing the turnout in Philly made him feel good?---Someone else with better hearing should verify or correct this!

I can't remember the order of all of the songs, but the unreleased stuff he played was Holy Johnny and Do You Love Me. Luke played the banjo during Holy Johnny! He's so talented... Mika and Saranyde also did Missionary Man.

I noticed that Mikey and Martin played a lot more riffs between songs than before---I liked that---and Mika called for a lot more audience participation where he would turn the mike towards the crowd to fill-in a word or repeat a scat he just finished.

I had a chance to meet mgpm, A. Clay and her son-in-law, Jack(very quickly---she's unmasked and lovely). MFCers are such nice people! I saw Cynthia Mulat very briefly when we were waiting for Mika outside, but did not have a chance to say hi because I was waiting to have a chance to say hello to Mika. So before Mika came out we were strictly told that he would just leave the building and we could just say hi---no autographs or pictures. When he came out, he slowed down and a few people did get autographs and spoke with him...I'll let them tell you their stories themselves (A. Clay has a great story, but I'll leave you in suspense so she can have the chance to do it justice!)...but I was happy enough that I was able to put my hand out from the back of several people and he shook it!

  11. Making Mika a t-shirt that says "relax" in stylized and hand painted letters....

Looking forward to seeing all my mikamaniac friends.....

    WHOO HOO!!!!!

That sounds nice! Wish I had an artistic bone in my body... Hope to get a chance to meet you... I don't know what I'll be wearing, but you could probably id me because I'll be one of the "older" people in the audience (if my NYC experience last June is any indication)---sporting a few unruly white hairs which a dimly lit club just might hide.

  12. I read the tidbit below in the Philadelphia Weekly on the subway to work today so thought I would add it to dcdeb's collection... I wonder if he and his band are here yet? Could we be breathing the same air already? I hope they are enjoying a delicious meal and relaxing at one of Philly's great restaurants...

    Mika

    Thurs., Jan. 31, 8:30pm. $25. With Midway State. Electric Factory, 421 N. Seventh St. 215.627.1332. http://www.livenation.com

The sprightly cover art for Life in Cartoon Motion pretty much announces the aural aesthetic inside: It’s as if Rainbrow Brite vomited after a breakfast of Skittles, Lucky Charms and a hit of XTC. Brimming with “Up With People” chirpiness and squirming to wriggle out that octave-scaling falsetto, Mika arrives at your doorstep like a gay Jehovah’s Witness peddling power pop. (And, by the way, “Happy Ending” would not sound of place on gospel radio.) Yes, he’s vocally indistinguishable from Freddie Mercury; yes, his gushy camp is essentially biting the Scissor Sisters. But if you can’t get up for this faaabulous self-affirmation, you’ve got a cold and vile heart. (Michael Serazio)

  13. You are the best. Thank you so much. This is the best help I have recieved in a while. Hope I get to meet you !!:biggrin2: :biggrin2:

Happy to help. Did the link save ok? If not, (or if it expires, I don't really know how these things work exactly), all you have to do is go to Google maps and click "Find businesses" and then type in hotels in the "what" box and 421 N 7th St, Philadelphia, PA 19123 in the "where" box.

Hope I get to meet you, too!

  14. I still need help if you don't mind:wink2: :wink2:

Here is a google map of the area around Electric Factory with the nearest hotels: http://maps.google.com/maps?tab=wl . It is in satellite view to give you a good idea of the street layout, but feel free to change the view to map if you find it difficult to view.

Does your husband want to sightsee a bit or does he just need a TV to watch for the evening? If he likes movies, there are some great Ritz (independent) movie theaters around the Society Hill/Old City area. Hotel prices are usually cheaper near the Philadelphia airport or back right on the other side of the bridge in New Jersey, but if you haven't seen Philly's historical sites (and you have the time) you may want to spend a little more and stay at a hotel in Center City Philadelphia. I am just rambling right now, so just feel free to ask me any specific/general questions you might have about hotel locations/neighborhoods, etc. and I'll try to help.
