  1. I just found one of THE most Mikagasmic things I've ever seen! Are you ready for it?

    Too bad, here it comes!

If it was already posted, my bad, but its not like anyone cares if I repost...this..

    o.m.g.

This picture has to be from Miami, and whoever took it must have have been standing right next to me!

  2. Are you sure she wasn't joking? It almost sounds like sarcasm, from what you wrote... they're rather good friends and she seems very fond of him. (I saw these photos before on her flickr, and she captioned them "My Mika!"--which I thought was very sweet.)

Honestly, I don't know, she could have been, but at that point she was talking to a bouncer, so I really don't know.

  3. ...why would these people wait in line? They're his coworkers and close friends from when he lived in Miami. The woman in the first picture co-wrote half the songs on the album with him, and helped him launch his career. Of course they're going to be allowed backstage.

It really does suck that you guys waited so long and didn't get to see him, but this really seems like it was a very personal afterparty, for friends and crew and their guests only.

You're right, I was a bit rash with what I said. And I have no problem with that she was let backstage, as you said, she helped him. However, I find what she said to be unneccesary and rude, especially if she did co-write his songs.

By the way, it doesn't seem to me that this was at Studio A, it looks like they went to a bar afterwards, which would make it seem more like a personal party.

  4. I'm with cheeseygoodness, I waited there for hours and he didn't come out at all . . . I really dislike these "exclusive" afterparties, especially ones like this. I didnt see a single one of those people waiting in line. I remember that woman in the first picture, she was complaining that she couldn't get backstage, saying something like "I'll make sure he never plays in Miami again!"

    It disappoints me, honestly.

  5. As my user title thing says, I'm actually going to be studying/majoring in music in college (starting this fall) and I sing all kinds of music. I'm actually going to be trained in classical singing (like Mika was, wooo!) but I also play guitar, piano and french horn. I'm also a bit of a writer and really enjoy performing my or other people's poetry, especially slam poetry!

edit: I also sew, and love to make/refashion my own clothes!

  6. I'd so like to be part of this! But I can't sew (at least not so far, I could try but it would look crappy against the stuff of those who can sew...LOL)

I'll definitely think of something... count me in as 'likes idea but unable to sew' for once, please. When is the deadline for the actual patches? And sorry for my ignorance, I have no idea about quilting... I'm such a noob, are the squares to be sent just plain cloth or do they have to be thicker (knitted sqares are thicker than cloth though, so I wonder if it all has to be the same).... *looking dumb*

Well, from what I've seen of quilting (by the way I am a DIYNetwork fanatic, and watch their quilting shows), quilts are like three layers: all the patches, a layer of quilting batting (it's like the stuff they put in pillows, but its like a flat fabric), and then a soft fabric backing. So, ultimately, it doesn't matter if some are knitted/crocheted or just fabric because there will be other layers holding it all together :biggrin2:

  7. Happikali, just let me know what help you need!!

ThatRadFreak, do you have access to a bubble jet colour printer or shall I collect the non-sewers artwork and print it for you?

6' by 3' is kind of like the top of the single bed, but we can make it a floor to floor for a single bed, which is actually big enough to cover the top of a queen bed, so we have hedged our bets a bit.

For comfort, single sided may be best, or else any lumpy patches should go on one side, to be the top.

You probably need a time limit for names, so the patch size can be calculated, with room for spares for desperate latecomers. If we have 'blank spots' then a nice bright fabric will certainly do the trick as a space filler.

Or, calcuate how many 6" or 10" squares would make up a quilt of the right size, and stop taking names when the quota is filled!

Ok, I did some caclulating and research, an extra-long twin bedspread is normally 6.75’ x 9.58’ (according to sewing.org) and the closest thing that I can get to that is two hundred and eighty 6" squares (14 squares by 20 squares. Now, if we're talking 10" squares we could make it 10 squares by 10 squares (100 total), which would be slightly bigger than a normal queen bedspread.

I think we should go for the 10" squares, because it will take less work (sewing together 280 squares would be incredibly time consuming).

edit: I just realized that I repeated what mouselle said about the "blank" squares, sorry! but yeah, quilters have the cutest patterned fabrics, so we could get something mika-esque.

  8. rilo8913, it was, really and truly, so much fun! :biggrin2::mf_lustslow:

He said that about in the beginning middle of the concert, I think. I would love someone to help me to remember it straight. Please don't quote me on that. :roftl:

I hope there are more detailed reports, too! Especially so that we can piece together the parts to get the whole. :das:

I don't think he signed anything afterward. :-( I really wanted an autograph of his, too!

He actually said that right before Love Today, I remember because it was the best part for me. I don't think he signed anything either, my friend and I tried to meet him, but it didn't work out, which sucked because I really wanted him to sign the drumstick! The second song was definately Big Girl. Aaaand he did take off his shirt during Love Today, right before he started banging on the trashcan! I also just remembered that during Grace Kelly, the guitarist (I don't remember his name) had this priceless look on his face, probably because everyone was screaming out the lyrics to the song. He even walked over to tell the bassist something! That's all I can remember right now, but if anyone has any questions, just ask!

  9. It was the one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life! My friend and I got at the venue at six, and waited three hours in the rain, but it was worth it! We ended up front row center and it was absolutely amazing! He and the band were musically spot-on! Love Today was definately the highlight of the show, I got to touch him and he gave me the one of the drumsticks he used to bang on the trashcan at the end of the song!!!!
