Edit: I dont have a problem with your post in particular so I'm not using a PM. I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but it's the whole situation that upsets me, not your list, but it was just a patent example of what I was fearing.

Bare with me because I may not have all my facts straight, but from what I understand, Mika was going to talk to everyone - he was going to work the room. Because things got out of hand with people coming back, that's why those people didn't get the chance to talk. I think if someone was in that position, they'd have all the right in the world to say how disappointed or angry they were; their chance was taken away by others. I hope that fans wouldn't blame Mika, and as Jennie said herself, she doesn't.

Another thing, of course, is that it may really have been that he had to leave because the bar was closing. The fact of the matter is that if people had stayed in their places, been grateful with their Mika interaction, and then given others the chance to talk, then Mika would have been able to do that.

I mean yeah, there's a time to be grateful to be invited to the afterparty, but that was with the full understanding that they'd get a chance to talk to Mika. I'm sure some people would have gone regardless if the band or Mika were there, but I'm willing to bet everyone had that expectation. There's going to be jealously regardless if it had been a 100% success (someone may have wanted more time with him), so there's no sure fire way to get rid of that unless there isn't a party all together.

Edit: Yeah, I agree, we definitely don't want any bi*ching and moaning. Being devoid of any negative feelings to make Mika happy isn't necessarily the right way to go either, but I don't think that's what you're getting at.

Holy crap! I had to sign into the MFC just to say that suckssssssssssssss.

I spoke to Cynthia about an hour ago, and from what she said, it sounds like the backstage stuff is like a little after party.

I've just gotta say that all of my encounters with John have been reallllyyy nice. When Cynthia and I went to the Birmingham and Doncaster gigs last November, John went out of his way to tell us Happy Thanksgiving. At Doncaster when we were waiting in line for the meet and greet, John saw us and started to make small talk, which he didn't have to do either. I dunno, I guess it's just him having the job of being Mika's manager that makes him appear tough at times, but I think he really is a nice guy.

Any city you were looking forward to playing in?

I think Los Angeles is phenomenal. More than that, I think Atlanta is absolutely f@%#ing brilliant. It’s such a great gig city.

Oh my goodness. Worst concert experience for me.

The security and ushers were absolutely horrible.

I'm sorry you didn't get a chance to meet Luke or Mika, phunkygal. If it helps, I didn't properly meet Mika either. I did end up staying longer and waited in line. To be honest, I was frustrated from the time I got to the theater until I left.. and all because of the security. During the show they kept on patrolling the isles and pointing their dumb pen flashlights everywhere; they even went as far as telling people in my area to step back if they were a foot away from their chairs. The thing is, at Mika concerts, people generally like to jump and dance around. If security wants our shins to be touching the seats, they obviously don't know what these shows entail; but noooo... some people got yelled at by security if they didn't stay close to their chairs. And when someone said, "I can't help where I'm jumping!" the usher goes, "SECURITY!!!! PLEASE COME SHOW THIS PERSON OUT!" Absolutely ridiculous.

So because we were the last to realize Mika may be coming out, the group I came with and I were at the end of the line. I was glad for that because I was secretly hoping my mood would get better by the time Mika came to our end. Surprise, surprise. "Those waiting at the end get rewarded first" is said by a security guard. I'm really sort of in a daze, and I'm trying to make myself ignore the guards, so I don't process what that means. Next thing I know, Andy is setting down and unloading his camera bag next to me, and Mika is in front of me (I was the very last in line). Because this is Mika, everyone wants to talk at the same time. Mika, being a nice guy, tries to give attention to all of them at the same time. While this is happening, a little circle sort of formed. It was me, Mika, John/Jerry (Mika's manager), Andy, Cynthia, a friend, Cynthia's husband, and back to me.Apparently the security guard took that as my turn being up. The security guard goes, "Ma'am you need to leave the line now." I'm looking ... I quickly tell the security guard, "Oh, I haven't had the chance to talk to him yet" and I turn back towards the circle. The security guard waits a minute while watching me, and then repeats himself. I'm thinking if he's watching me, he obviously doesn't see that I haven't had the chance to talk to Mika. So I repeat myself also. Then he's about an inch away from my face, on the verge of yelling and with a forced smile clearly saying don't mess with him, and saying, "MA'AM, you need to leave the line now." I got scared and frustrated to I just turned to leave our little circle completely unsatisfied.

As I took about two steps, all of the sudden Mika is in front of me shaking my hand as a goodbye. Hopefully you can imagine how frustrated and angry I was at that moment, even Mika being there because I didn't expect him. It all happened so fast and I wanted to leave before getting beat up, i mumbled something like a little angry kid. I think I said, "Thanks, by the way my name is Naomi." Mika says, "Thanks, Amy" and turns back around towards his fans. So even though my name is Naomi, he thinks I'm Amy. :roftl: Has something ever turned out so badly that you just have to laugh? As horrible as that night was, I can't help but see the humor in how incredibly and utterly unexpected everything turned out.

Cynthia helped me fill in the blanks later on. She said that Mika had seen me getting told to leave, and when he turned back towards them after saying bye to me, his facial expression looked like he was thinking "I hope she'll be ok." She may be wrong, she may be right, but I'm just going to assume she's right for the sake of having something good happen.

Sorry, I just needed to get all of that out. I'm sure you would have wanted to be there, even with the dumb security acting that way; but hopefully you'll meet him under better circumstances, phunkygal.

Psh... I wouldn't write three long paragraph posts to myself... or would I?

 

Well the rubber stopper sounded as hard as stone. If he dropped it on the floor it probably would have shattered. One of the blobs went up to my chair. It seems like it's addicted to metal because when he poured more on the floor this guy and I were watching the same one and it almost came to a stop but then it scurried over to his chair.

He was a pretty good professor. He had a really good voice too so that's probably why he talks on the radio about weather and what-not. It was deep and strong. At first I thought it was going to be just monotone and always put me to sleep, which it kind of was monotone but he made jokes along the way. I've tried checking out that ratemyprofessors thing before but not many of the professors that teach here are on there. Not a lot of people around here know about that site I guess.

I plan on selling the second book back since it was like $80 and it's so dry. I'm keeping the first book though since I probably won't get anything but a dollar for it and it also talks about constellations.

Haha and when you try telling me the bits that you learned in class watch me know them. Like did you know Uranus is blue because the methane in the atmosphere cancels out the red visible light? Now I'm just full of all this useless info HAHAHA. One important thing that I learned was how to pronounce Uranus right and how to spell Orion. Before I thought it was "Oh Ryan" and I think I wrote that down on one of our tests.

 

I'm sure even if we can't walk up a little bit closer we can still stand. I remember hearing about one gig where people in the balcony weren't allowed to stand. I'm going to sigh though if I see open seats in the first couple of rows because the scalpers have gotten a hold of those tickets. I've found two front row tickets going for $275 each, so there's two seats right there. I was hoping for tickets in rows DD-RR but it seemed like if you bought single tickets you could get in those rows but doubles where farther back and if you bought four tickets you ended up on the balcony. I don't know how that works.

Hmm... maybe I shouldn't wear the glasses now so none of you MFCers can pick me out and I will be as mysterious as Rilo. HAHAHA

 

My college only offers photography 1 and 2 and I just finished the second class and got an A in it. In order to keep on taking a photography class I have to have it as an independent study where you work with just the professor. I've found out that I won't have to meet every week though. I'll get assignments for things that I want to do and then basically go into the lab whenever I want to work.

Ahh ok.. yeah, I’ve picked a better teacher, so hopefully I'll have interesting stuff to share. So you guys have two separate books, interesting. We just have one and it’s split in half… hhahaha maybe for more “detailed” learning? (probably not… )

You know, I tried to sell back one of my books, but they would have given me $2. Geez.. I hate how companies come out with new editions every year, so I can’t sell books back because they are old editions. Lame…

I suppose when you buy tickets in pairs or more, they presume (understandably) that friends want to stick together. Or maybe it’s just a matter of availability… there are prob. more single seats

Oh wow, I sort of like that idea of independent study. Personally, I like learning in smaller groups, so you can see how independent study is appealing to me.  Not meeting every week and going to labs when you want to… sounds even better!

Ooh, nice. I'm 2nd row, right center mezzanine. from the pictures, the seats don't look too bad! Not too high up or anything. Can't wait!

 

And moriina, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that you won't be reading any 3 paragraph responses from me. Seeing as I have the attention span of a chipmunk, I don't even have the patience to read a few-paragraph-long response, never mind construct one of my own. Now, if you get me to rant about something, then yes, it's likely. But simple conversation more than likely won't pull a few paragraphs at a time out of me.

Only an extension on a paper?!He was going to have us write a research paper but then he dropped it thank goodness.

 

When he made dry ice it was hilarious. He put some in a beaker container type thing then he put a rubber stopper in it. He stood there and was starting to say, "now I know there's something else you can add to speed up the process" and as he said that the rubber stopper popped out and flew up into the air. We just laughed. He added water and plugged it up again and the stopper flew out again. He kept on doing that for fun. Then he did the same with the liquid nitrogen. He put some in a coke bottle and stopped it. He said that he had put the cap back on the bottle before and it was a bad idea because the pressure made it so that he couldn't get the cap off and it exploded in his hands. Naturally everyone was trying to get him to cap it and leave it on the desk. He only put the rubber stopper in it and it kept on popping out, hitting the ceiling and just flying around the place. At one point he had a small bucket with some liquid nitrogen in it and the rubber stopper flew out of the coke bottle, hit the ceiling and landed right into the bucket. It was hilarious because he said he's never done that before. It turned the rubber stopper stone solid.

 

When he poured the liquid nitrogen on the floor though I think we were all just like, "wtf is he doing?!" We leaned over to watch it and it was so weird! I expected to see a puddle but instead it kind of forms into little blobs and scurries across the floor. One blob went up to my chair but disappeared. He said it's good for cleaning floors.

 

Ew, we didn't use much math. We just used some equation, which I wish I could write out here how he wrote it but I can't. ... I wonder if we have the same text book haha. We got kind of to the point where you are. We talked about each planet, what they're made of, their moons, etc etc etc.

 

Haha, okay so maybe Rilo will know what I look like, some-what. Did we figure out that Rilo is a guy?

 

I'm hoping at the concert maybe security won't be really strict making you stay in your seats because it would be cool to walk down closer to the front. I can't see people wanting to stay in their rows. I'd love to be able to stand by some friends too instead of all being split up! I guess we'll just have to wait and see. If we can't though then oh well. I'm not one to sneak around so I'll stay put haha.

 

Oh I almost forgot, no I'm not a photography major yet. I just have to tough it out this next semester then I'm transferring. I did get my independent study approved though for photography. It took forever having to collect a bunch of signatures.

Oh man, I didn’t even think about attempting to get closer – I hope we can! This will be my first Mika concert where I won’t be near the front standing… hope the experience will be the same. You’re right, I really can’t see people staying in their seats either. That’s like one of the big “Not to do”s of concerts.

You have to take photography as an independent study? Weird… so what does that mean exactly?

I cannot wait for the Boston show! I have my countdown going (it's been going since the dates were released) in my school agenda book. So every time I open it in school I'm reminded. And then on February 1st, I used all bright markers and made it pretty and exciting.

I just got done my exams today and I'm glad it's over!

 

I was also like that when I looked up in the sky too. In fact I used to get into fights with people about which was the big/little dipper. I know if you find the big dipper I believe you go either straight or diagonally up from the corner of the dipper part and you'll hit the north star and it's part of the little dipper. I at least always try to find that now, Orions belt and the queen (which is easy because it makes a W in the sky.) I think the reason why we were all willing to go to the planetarium and outside to look through the telescopes was because it was a two hour class and we would only get a 5 minute break, so doing stuff like that was a treat. It was the best day when he made dry ice, was playing around with carbon dioxide and also liquid nitrogen. That was probably the best class because he surprised us by dumbing the liquid nitrogen on the floor. I'm sure our faces were all in shock,but it has a really cool effect if you do that.

 

Did you use anything from your bio and chem classes? Surprisingly we didn't do anything that involved stuff like that or math so I totally lucked out. How far did you guys get to? What were you learning about last if you remember? Maybe the second part will be more of the planets? The last thing we covered was the sun. Btw, seeing the northern lights are on my to do list too.

OK you've officially made me jealous with your astronomy class. The most exciting thing that happened in mine was getting an extension on a paper... we never did anything exciting, let alone cool dry ice experiments. I think the farthest we got was discussing each planet in detail. I'll probably be excited and a little nervous. It's going to be a nice break to get off campus for a night though doing something fun! It'll be much needed. : )

Ahhh I know right! You can completely lose yourself at a Mika concert. That's what I love about them the most. It doesn't matter if someone is normally shy, because for that night, that person can shed any normal exterior and become crazy. Absolutely love it.

Wow that's going to be a loooong road trip! I live in Vermont so I've just got to travel down. Last time Mika was in Boston I went with a friend and we did the trip in a day. I'm kind of glad it's going to take two days this time. I'm not much of a road trip person.

 

Yup I was in Astronomy. I took it as one of my 3, or maybe it was 4, credit sciences. I just had the exam Monday which I'm THRILLED that it's over. I loved learning about the constellations and how to find some of them (granted I can only really find two more than the big/little dipper and Orions belt.) I've wanted to go to some place dark around here sometime when the sky is clear to see if I can see anymore. At least if I'm given a chart like what we were giving in class I can pick most of them out. After the constellations once we started getting into the planets and their moons it became pretty confusing.

It was cool though because once he took us out with two telescopes and we got to see the moons of one of the planets. Also another class he took us to the planetarium because he runs it. I was going to ask you how you like Astronomy but if you're taking the second part it must be because you like it.

Aw, I like meteor showers but whenever we get them it's always cloudy. I went to someone's cabin this year and it was a clear night out and I've never seen so many shooting stars before. I remember I saw my first shooting star in the 6th grade. I was with my guy friend and his brother sliding and we looked up and saw one go by. I screamed and ran into the garage because I had never seen anything like it. He told me it was okay and got me out of the garage and we looked back up in the sky. He said it was a shooting star then said "make a wish." I'm still friends with him and it was probably one of the sweetest moments that I'll always remember haha. I just found that it was so ironic that while on my way to my exam I saw one. I guess it was sign that I needed to go. I was also on my cell phone at the same time with my mom and I started listing off facts to her about meteors and she laughed at me. I was talking about their two tails and I think that it was that every hour there will be about five meteors and so on.

I remember last year around this time we could see the northern lights up here, but I had to go back to the computer lab to work on my assignments so I couldn't go see it. I was so disappointed. I now know what causes the northern lights, which I find funny to know all this random information about the universe. It's cool though. : P

Hmm I just looked at the rsvp list and I wonder if I'll get to meet any of the Rilo's. Maybe I'll get to meet my home dawg but it would be nice to meet this other mysterious Rilo.

Yeahhhh I finished finals last Wednesday, so I'm glad about that. No school for about 3 weeks!! Hahahah I have to say, I'm impressed that you can at least find a few more constellations. My first homework assignment was to identify 5 of them, and I had the hardest time ever! I remember looking at the sky and thinking, "I can make absolutely ANYTHING by connecting the dots, how am I supposed to find specific ones?" Even the North Star was hard to find for me, because they all looked equally bright! Hahah but yeah... I think I saw Orions belt.. not sure though.

Whoa, what a nice teacher. I wish ours thought of taking us to a planetarium or out to look through the telescopes. We have a place to go for that, of course, but it being required would give me the extra push to actually go.

Hahah well... I have a few more core classes to get out of the way, and Astronomy is one of them. We have to take 8 credit hours, and each science class has two parts. I took astronomy because I had enough of bio and chem in high school, so that's basically why. I don't particularly enjoy it, but it's something new, so I can find some of the stufff interesting.

I live in Georgia... a long long long drive, but well worth it. I don't take nearly enough road trips, so I'm looking forward to that. What state do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

OH! You take Astronomy?! I do too! Well, I took the first part in Spring 2007, and I'm taking the 2nd part next semester (Spring '08). How do you like the class? & no way I'd laugh at wishing on a shooting star (I secretly do that as well... shhhh ). A few years back, there was a meteor shower and around 3 or 4 AM, my parents drove my siblings and I to a nearby mountain. We brought blankets and stuff, and laid down for a few hours watching the sky. Absolutely beautiful. I think I counted over 30 shooting stars that night. Unfortunately I don't remember if any of my wishes came true....

Use it to my advantage? Sure.... *thinks really hard* .... I'd love to hear Love Today, HMDYLM, whatever else he has up his sleeve and see some confetti. Alright there you go. If it happens I've got skillz.

 

Yes, mom and I are driving most of the way and then catching a bus. There won't be any parties for us because I don't drink just yet and I'll probably have to leave right after since I'm 99% sure we won't be staying in Boston. I'm trying to see if we can stay in Boston if we find a cheap room because I want to walk around for a bit the next day. I don't think it's going to happen though when we've already found a hotel in another state on the way back for around $50.

Hahahah good luck with that. Hopefully it's not too hard to manage for Mika.

Oh my fault, I didn't mean that sort of partying. I meant to make it as a joke that since our seats are close to each other, we'll meet at seat number whatever and "throw a party." I actually don't drink either, so that wouldn't work out too well Yeah, the plan is driving for me as well. I think right now the idea is to drive to Boston, go to NY to visit some friends, stay the weekend, and then make it back in time for classes on Monday. If it does end up snowing, then those plans will have to change drastically... but we'll see.

Yeah they're the same. I have the funny looking ones that are like overalls. Since it's reserved seating (which I didn't know before) we won't have to wait outside. I plan on getting there a little bit before the doors are open but not hours and hours like I thought I'd have to! I think I was mind stalked by his manager because I needed seats so that I wouldn't have to stand in the cold of hours, then stand around longer inside. I can just walk on in, sit for an hour and well my feet won't hurt like last time.

I might prepare for snow. Although I'm used to the weather where I live so I'm used of it changing a lot. Last winter we really didn't have much of a winter until a blizzard on Valentines day. I just hope we don't get any bad storms before the gig because I don't want to have to cancel.

Once the tickets go on sale (I'm pretty sure I can go) I want to call them and ask the the queuing arrangements will be. I can't stand out in the cold for long, or stand for insanely long periods of time or my feet act up. It wasn't cold at the last gig but all the standing did a number on my feet. I've been trying to find the theatre website (no luck) but I found other websites that show us what the seating arrangements are.... apparently it's all seating. That's quite different for a Mika gig. Maybe that means we'll be able to go inside early and get our seats or something, (wishful thinking.) If not maybe I'll just have to wear ski pants so I can sit in the snow.

Are ski pants and snow pants the same? If so, Cynthia has a pair as well & she's dieing to wear them - you two could be twins Ahhh crap... you really think it'll be snowing?
