  1. Woah Tegan, it's so cool to read about your time backstage!! It would have been so awesome to hear Mika warming up and stuff (not to mention the experience of just being there while everything was getting ready!). Did you guys get to see Orianthi before she went on?

Otherwise, personally, I have to say thank you again for organising everything! You did so much to make the night so much better for so many of us!:biggrin2:

  2. Hi egypt man - I think it might be easier for people to scroll through this thread and read the posts if you make your images on "image shack" smaller.

    :naughty:

    Hi Suzy,

I dont know how to make the photos smaller, so I've just moved them to a new thread - http://www.mikafanclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2664256&posted=1#post2664256

I guess it also means that anyone that wants to save them can have a full resolution copy of them.

  3. Putting the fun back in a 'live' show

    MIKA

    Enmore Theatre, November 24

BRITNEY versus Mika? That's no contest, surely.

A pop play-off pitting an American multimedia star who learnt at the knee of Madonna against a Lebanese boy raised in London who took his cues from Freddie Mercury will surely end in a victory for dollars over pounds. Right? Not so fast folks.

A week ago Britney Spears showed us what can be done with a pop spectacle when the talent on show is negligible but the financial heft substantial. She cleaned up.

At the Enmore, Mika had a smaller stage, smaller cast and a substantially smaller budget. And he cleaned her clock.

It's not the screams that tell the story: all things considered it probably was about equal, though you might be surprised at how many unaccompanied adults were spread through the room. It's not even the song quality; Mika's material is superior in almost every way (particularly new songs such as the almost irresistible We Are Golden) but as we know that is not necessarily important in a pop show.

What Mika has that La Britney couldn't manage was spontaneity and joy. That is, authentic pleasure at performing, genuine fondness for the songs (writing them yourself helps with that) and, yes, live instruments and vocals played by people who looked like they liked what they were doing and were not just waiting for pay day.

Silliness and theatrics of course made an appearance. The show opened with the band members, in bold multipatterns, watching ''newsreader'' Sir Ian McKellan report on a spaceship crash before Mika arrived in space suit and helmet.

Four sizeable maids a-dancing showed up for Big Girl (You Are Beautiful); a giant teapot made an appearance mid-show; fluorescent clothes, confetti and giant balloons filled the encore; and Mika flung himself about in a loose-limbed, wiggly hipped but definitely not choreographed manner.

Even with the occasional slowed-down moment, such as I See You, the sugar-rush tempo of the night seemed a relentless up, up, up! Which can test anyone not riding high on puberty's rollercoaster. Not everyone would necessarily thrill to Mika's falsetto, which now more often resembles disco queen Sylvester than rock queen Mercury, or the way Days Like This feels like it's only one little-lunch break away from being a year six disco. But you would be a fool to fight the delight, on stage and off, in a pop show that remembered to bring the pop and not just the show.

  4. Egypt Man! I'm so slow, I've been appreciating your pictures and stuff and I've only just connected that you are the Matthew I chatted to for ages!

And if you reveresed that sentence it would be just as true! I like both of your alter-egos!

The two are one! Just like magic, the pictures side by side slide toegther to make the one person! Wow, and hi again!

Yeah, it was great talking to you too! The quilt you made for Mika looked awesome (from the photos you showed me). And, your in-depth concert reports are fantastic. You have the best memory! It's funny, I also got the feeling Mika wanted to throw the feather hat out to the audience. He kind of went through the motions a few times, and then stopped. Maybe he's only got one and he needed it for the next leg of the tour.

Anyhow, I'll upload some more photos now :thumb_yello:

  5. I loved his mum!

I just wish she didnt give us false hope when she said Mika would be coming back up soon because she was going back to the hotel with him.

Loved it when we got Suzan to share all the arabic words/sentences she knew to his mum haha

    Hey Fay!

Ah, so what happened after I left? Did you guys stay long? And, what, you never saw him leave?

As for Suzan, I think his mum loved it when she said "I love Mika" in Arabic. His mum was so cool, and really friendly. I think she kinda felt bad that Mika didnt stay around for long, but in fairness he'd been there all day and so would have been exhausted (not to mention the international flight today).

  6. Yeah, as everyone said, it was a really cool night. I particularly thought Orianthi was awesome! She sang Michael Jackson's 'Give In To Me' and spoke a bit about meeting him etc.

As for Mika, the show rocked! The "Big Girls" also did an amazing job!

Afterwards, the meet and greet was good. It was cool to be there with the band, and his mum, but Mika himself only came out for 10 minutes or so to sign autographs and then he left. Personally, I got a cd signed, but I didnt really get to say a word to him. His mum was cool though, and a few of us spoke to her for a bit.

I'm sure everyone's looking forward to his next Australian tour :thumb_yello:

  7. Thank you Blue Sky!

The video lilsmartykid2 posted yesterday is gone.

I like the short talking with the host at the end of Mika's part on this one.

I am only getting the audio from the vid file egypt_man posted here - I don't know why.

I am loving all the Australian stuff Mika is doing!:thumb_yello:

Hmm, that audio problem has also happened to a friend who i've copied videos for too (from dvd). It's basically a codec issue (codecs being the codes windows media player uses to "read" a video). My best suggestion is to go to http://www.free-codecs.com/download/ace_mega_codecs_pack.htm

and click 'download ace mega codecs'. That'll install the latest codecs, and the video should play properly then.

  8. I agree with almost everything you said egypt_man, except for One Foot Boy.

While I enjoy it as a song, I can't see it being a single. For the simple reason that it doesn't make enough sense. That might sound strange, but I just don't think people would click with it enough. I don't know how to explain it better.

I have to say, the lyrics are rather odd (they really dont make sense!). But, I dont know, I find the song incredibly catchy. It's definitely one my favourite tracks on the new album. That said, it's possible that non-Mika fans just wont warm to One Foot Boy. It is very "Mika-esque". lol.

  9. Well he said this morning on CM's show that Rain is to be the new single.

Ah, cool, I hadnt heard that about Rain. Personally, it's not in my top 3 songs from the album, but it's still a cool song. I think it'll do alright as a single, and will be played a lot on the radio, but it's just not of the catchiest songs from the new album.

  10. Ok, we all know 'Life in Cartoon Motion' produced six singles -

    - Grace Kelly

    - Love Today

    - Big Girl

    - Relax, Take It Easy

    - Happy Ending

    - Lollipop

My question here is, what songs from 'The Boy Who Knew Too Much' do you think will be released as singles? What songs do you think will do really well commercially? So far, we know 'We Are Golden' and 'Blame it on the Girls' will be released (in some countries) as singles. Personally, I think the following songs have great potential to be released as singles -

    - Rain

    - Blue Eyes

    - Good Gone Girl

    - Touches You

    - One Foot Boy

Those obviously aren't the only good songs on the album, but I think in general they'll be the most popular songs to be played on the airways, and so could be also be released in their own right.

What does everyone else think? Remember, I'm not asking asking your favourite song/s, but rather the songs you think will be popular enough to be sold separately.

  11. Hey there!

    Welcome to the madness!

The times really do fluctuate... ooh, feel free to drop in to the Aussie thread, we're all talking about the gig there...

I hope so... The last time he was in Sydney it was about 50 minutes!

Cool, thanks so much for letting me know all that. Hopefully, given that he's got two albums now he'll be on stage for a little longer.

And cool, im checking out the Aussie thread now :biggrin2:

Otherwise, i'll definitely upload some photos and stuff afterwards :D

Btw, does anyone know if Mika commonly does meet-ups after the show with fans? I know the place he's performing in in Sydney is pretty small - it only take like 1700 people.

  12. Hi,

Im going to Mika in concert in Sydney later this year, and im just wondering, how long is he usually on stage for?

I've got some concerts of his from his first tour and the amount of time he spent on stage really seemed to fluctuate. Generally, I think two hours in the standard as to what to expect a singer to perform for.

Either way, i'll definitely post some photos up here afterwards :D
