  1. Hey all...

Looks like the forum is back, after more than 36 hours down!

Special thanks to StandardToaster for his efforts :) and to

all of you for your patience.

As you may have heard, earlier today, Mika learned of the problems we've been having with the forum and he wrote to tell us he would look into it.

We received this message from him and he asked that we share it with all of you:

"This is a message to you and to all the members of the MFC.

This note is in response to the email with your account of the problems that you have been encountering recently. I am extremely sorry at the way the transfer of ownership of the MFC has taken place. Transfer of ownership aside, the MFC, in my eyes, is a self-created community that has been so supportive and pro-active over the past year that I want and aim to help it in as many ways as I can. This is why I purchased the website.

I will openly admit that I am disappointed in the technical difficulties that have recently been encountered and was unaware of the many shortcomings that you have been experiencing because of the quality of the server. Please do not underestimate the extent to which I value everything that you have done and continue to do. In a way I am glad that this has come to my attention so strongly in the past 30 hours. For it means I can now make appropriate changes, not only to restore the MFC to the technical functionality that you are used to, but also make significant technical improvements. This will hopefully include more personal email and online community functions (such as personal fan pages). This has already been in the works and the server that we have been using has merely been a stop-gap. This does not excuse the fact that the website is down. I ask you one thing, and that is to bear with me while I find out what has happened and fix it as soon as possible.

Please feel free to post this. I too am now waiting for some answers.

    Mika"

So... as Mika said, please bear with us. The forum is back for now, and

we're hopeful that the downtime is behind us... but you never know...

That said, we're optimistic that the future of MikaFanClub.com is brighter

    than ever! :thumb_yello:

I must say, I missed the site having gone down. I seem to not be around when it does. It's nice to know that Mika is involved and concerned over the site. Though he does own it, so I guess he would be, lol. Here's to hopes that we are over the site down issues and if not, I'm not too concerned as I know we have a great crew working to keep MFC online, Mika included.

  2. I tried to buy one for me and a friend and this is the email i received:

    Hi

Thank you for your order placed with us, unfortunately we only deliver within the United Kingdom so we have had to cancel your order and issue a full refund.

    Regards,

  3. Yes, The Butterfly Lounge is a real club!

I had the opportunity to be on stage with Mika when he was at the Avalon in California! I just met with him on monday night at the Wiltern.

Many thanks to Mika for writing Big Girl (you are beautiful) for my nightclub. We play the song every Saturday night at my nightclub!

    much love,

    Kathleen

:welcomeani: to the MFC Kathleen and congrats on the song about your club. A very special tribute for sure. :thumb_yello:

  4. MEEEEE, it was so sad, i love the song

It definitely was a sad song indeed. I feel fortunate to be in Oklahoma City we he spends his Christmas with his family. I have actually met him a couple of times and was surprised as to how down to earth he is and he definitely loves his family.

  5. how are the winners determined?

The process begins with members and record companies submitting entries, which are then screened for eligibility and category placement. The Academy's voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category; and (2) the final voting process which determines the GRAMMY winners.

    Submission

Recording Academy members and record companies enter recordings and music videos released during the eligibility year which they consider worthy of recognition in the GRAMMY Awards process.

    Screening

Reviewing sessions by more than 150 experts in various fields are held to ensure that entered recordings meet specific qualifications and have been placed in appropriate fields such as Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Gospel, New Age, Rap, Classical and Latin, among others. The purpose of screenings is not to make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but rather to make sure that each entry is eligible and placed in its proper category.

    Nominating

First-round ballots with lists of eligible recordings in all fields, except those voted on by special nominating committees, are sent to voting members who return their ballots to the independent accounting firm of Deloitte for tabulation. To help ensure the quality of the voting, members are directed to vote only in their fields of expertise; they may nominate in the four general categories (Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist) and in no more than nine out of 31 fields on their ballots.

    Special Nominating

Committees In craft and other specialized categories, final nominations are determined by national nomination review committees comprised of voting members from all of The Academy's Chapter cities.

    Final Voting

Lists of the finalists are sent to voting members with their second round ballots. The finalists determined by the special nominating committees are also included on these lists. In this final round, Recording Academy members may vote in the four general categories and in no more than eight of the 31 fields. Ballots again are tabulated in secrecy by the independent accounting firm, Deloitte.

    Results

Results of members' voting are not known until the GRAMMY Awards presentation ceremony when names of the winners are delivered by Deloitte in sealed envelopes. GRAMMY Award winners are revealed during the GRAMMY Awards telecast.

  6. I take it E! is a sky channel? :mf_rosetinted:

Just took this from their site, couldn't explain it better then that :roftl:

E! Entertainment Television, Inc. ("E!"), the world's largest producer and distributor of entertainment news and lifestyle-related programming. E! operates E! Entertainment Television, the only television network with programming dedicated to the world of entertainment, and Style Network, dedicated to style, beauty, fashion and home design. E! is currently available to more than 80 million cable and direct broadcast satellite subscribers in the U.S.

  7. Having been in the front row at the NYC gig, as well as in DC and Glasgow,

I can tell you that NYC was different. It wasn't just "crowd movement."

It was... scary. I don't think Mika

or anyone realized how dangerous it could become.

I agree with everything Jack says here. It wasn't just pushing in NYC. It was

a stampede. Thousands of people wanted to GET ON THAT STAGE

and suddenly the crowd was crushing me, pinning

me against the barrier so that I couldn't move, could barely breathe --

that was not normal. And let's face it, if someone had been

seriously injured, and there's that video on youtube of Mika encouraging

the stage invading -- well, there's a lawsuit won right there. :(

I'm all for a little bit of anarchy -- I understand how fun it can be.

But that experience in NYC was NOT fun, except for the

kids who were pulled up onstage.

That said, we are going to do what we can to let Mika's management

team know of the concerns that have been expressed here, just in

case they aren't aware that there's any issue at all. I don't expect

tonight's show at SLC to be a problem, as I think it's smallish venue,

but LA and SF are coming up...

    dcdeb

I think what deb says sums it all up. She was there, so she speaks first hand. I think their can be a controlled way of doing this without it getting out of hand, but first I think it needs to stop for a time so that it doesn't just spin off out of control on its own.

Speaking from experience with some crowd control, things can get out of hand in a split second and before you know it people are going every which way and their is no order to it and usually almost no way to recover.

On a side note, as great as it was for Mika to have said it. I think that video needs to get pulled before this does get someone hurt. I think we as MFC need to protect Mika from this obvious error in judgement. If anyone knows the person who has it posted, please see about getting it removed.

  8. Looks like his website is still down - a quick Google search reveals that there are a handful of Heath Ledger fan sites out there. Which one(s) are you all wanting to post on?

    Anyhow, condolences:

    ---------------

To those who knew Heath Ledger - whether as friends, as family, or as the fans who enjoyed and appreciated his hard work and talent:

We are an online community of fans of British pop star Mika. Tonight, however, our forum is abuzz with the news of the passing of Heath Ledger. Many of our members greatly enjoyed his work, and considered him to be a very talented and promising young actor. We are deeply saddened by these recent events.

The news of his passing comes as a shock to our community - we cannot imagine what a shock it must be to those most dedicated of his fans, not to mention his friends and family.

Heath - your fans, friends and family are in our thoughts. Rest in Peace.

    Signed,

    the Mika Fan Club

We can edit and ammend as necessary, of course - and some other moddy eyes might want to look over it, as it does sort of represent the MFC as a whole. :thumb_yello:

I think this letter condolence is perfect.

  10. Just as its important ....

Mika has cancelled tonights show :boxed:

    Guys

We are really sorry but MIKA has had to postpone his show tonight at Hammersmith Apollo as well as tomorrow's at Brixton Academy. Please see the following statement from MIKA which explains the reasons why:

"It is with much regret that I have been forced to postpone my two remaining shows on my UK tour on 3 and 4 December at Hammersmith Apollo and Brixton Academy respectively. Over the past few days I have been fighting off a virus that has affected the majority of my band and crew. I thought after last night's performance I could do the shows but this morning it was obvious I could not proceed. After consulting a specialist, I have been advised to rest my voice for a minimum of 48 hours. If I did not do this I would risk long term damage to my vocal chords. I can only apologise to everyone who has bought a ticket and the inconvenience and disappointment this postponement has caused. We are looking at rescheduling these dates early in the New Year; as soon as we have I will let you all know. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding."

    MIKA

Following the announcement that tonights and tomorrow's gigs at Hammersmith and Brixton respectively have had to be cancelled due to MIKA's ill-health we can now reveal the rescheduled dates.

The Hammersmith Apollo show will now take place on February 25th, and the Brixton Academy show will now take place on February 26th.

All ticket holders for the postponed show can swap tickets for their respective shows, or get a full refund.

Once again, many apologies for the inconvenience that this has caused.
