  1. Autumn is great:thumb_yello: Especially frosty nights with bright stars :wub2:

Ah yes!! YOU know what I mean, and home made soup and Mika cakes, tho not together! And hot chocolate!! And One Foot Boy - not sure he actually foresaw that one tho!! I think it's that little dance he does in the middle of Rain - totally amazing!

  2. NOOOOOOO. I hate the cold, I can't stand it. I hate being wrapped up, I feel all frumpy. Let it be summer so I can wear as little as poss!

I love feeling all warm and snuggly, and i love the bright colours people wear that totally contrast with the dull grey clouds! It has a real Christmassy feel to it too! I'm waffling a bit -maybe i've inhaled too much gunpowder...

  3. Now that's a better idea methinks :naughty:

And while we're at the planning, is it only me who's getting concerned about the fact that now, 4 months before the date, people are already making plans to get there first thing in the morning?

This is exactly why I'm starting to hate this massive gigs with GA standing and why I loved Sadler's Wells in June. It was such a relief, such a liberation, turning up feeling relaxed, not hungry and tired and thirsty and looking like a hobo, safe in the knowledge that I needn't waste a whole day standing there to end it all in the "Big Bang" getting into the venue scramble.

Some might argue that I felt that way because I had front row seats, but that is not the case-The point is, even if I had had 15th row seats, I KNEW where I was going and I was relaxed thinking that there would be no stress trying to get in and find a good spot. When there are so many "hardcores" at these gigs it becomes a proper battle to get to the front, with everyone trying their luck and pushing and all sorts, and this is why I am all for seated gigs. There's no need to sit, we can all decide to just stand from the start, and when it comes down to it, it doesn't change the atmosphere one bit.

Anyway, this is turning out to be a bit of a long one and the only point that I was trying to make is: if we start carrying on now (or ever, but especially now, so far in advance) about how early everyone is willing to get there on gig day, we will end up with a Brixton scenario where people are spending the night there.

Now, considering that the "normal" people only start turning up at the earliest around 2-3 pm, isn't that just majorly stupid of us????? It keeps happening and it keeps getting earlier and earlier, and I just don't get it. It will be the middle of winter, people. Do any of you remember how bitterly cold it was at Brixton?

Do we NEED to spend the whole day there? Do you rememeber anyway how they opened more than one door at the time in Hammersmith and once we got in it was all a big scramble, so the order in the queue didn't have such a huge impact anyway?

If the purpose of the queuing is to socialise, we can go to Starbucks and sit and chat there having tea in the warmth. And yes, don't worry, I know that this huge post won't make any difference if someone is determined to be there at the crack of dawn :biggrin2:, but I'm just getting really worried that the conversation about "how early should we get there" has already started and that people are so quick to WANT to go and spend the day there. I reckon that we should make some sort of arrangement that everyone agrees to abide by, like say for example not going there before a certain time. Would that work? If people are honourable it could....

What a great idea! I'm up for spending all morning in Starbucks talking about Mika!!

  4. Yes - Mika has the same effect on me and i believe he excludes no one, which is what i really admire about him. Listening to his music (or him for that matter!) makes you feel you can do anything! And Welcome by the way!

How many people quote their own message?? I just replied to Carien's - unfortunately didn't actually read anybody elses replies first so it seems i've just stated what's already been said - sorry. However it does seem i've managed to work out how to quote someone's msg, so this is good. :wink2:

  6. I went to see Michael Jackson back in the 80s. I was nowhere near the front so he was only a dot, but i'll never forget the experience. Him and Mika are the only pop concerts i've been to - i guess i only go see singers/songwriters who perform with such passion and put so much energy into their work.

Michael Jackson viewed the world differently - or did he? Do any of us really know how someone feels - their inner thoughts - or do we see just how they want us to see them.

I believe Michael Jackson was true to himself. He said and did what he wanted - this was not always accepted and was often judged cruelly. Society is more accepting than it was 20 years ago, of people who are different or whose behaviour is different from what 'we' regard as the norm. But there will always be pockets of people who are afraid of those brave enough, not to conform.

RIP Michael Jackson - a caring individual. :rip_1:

  7. When I look at the sky i think - mmm...am i gonna need an umbrella? :naughty: Seriously i know what you mean about the night sky, i too love it, well any sky really. Have you noticed how some days the sky looks as if you can reach out and touch it, and others it looks just so far away? Mika isn't actually very often far from me for i have recently developed Mika-ear infection - this is when you've listened to MIKA non-stop for a week on your ipod, and now you've finally stopped cos it needs re-charging, but you can STILL hear Mika Ring Ringing in your ears! :wink2:

  8. Hi - yes i got an extra copy of Songs for Sorrow sent to me  - don't worry I've sent it back. But it's a pretty dreadful mistake to have made, mainly because it's a limited edition and so much thought has gone into getting the artists to give their interpretation of Mika's songs and such a beautiful book has been created.

And there's real fans out there who are desperately awaiting their ordered copies and there's people who haven't been able to afford copies, and then there's free copies being posted off to people who might just have ordered an mp3 - and i don't reckon all the people who download Mika songs are necessarily major big fans.

Really hope that the majority of the EPs sent in error have been sent to the wonderful members of MFC :wink2: - who we all know are good honest folk, who will pop their extra copy back in the padded envelope it came in, even if they've already taken off the plastic wrapping for a sneaky peak to see if those elusive codes were there :teehee: and will send it back to : Sandbag Ltd. PO Box 2656. Reading. RG1 8XR. England. UK.

And then maybe all those of you who are frustrated with waiting may finally receive your treasure. :thumb_yello:

And Mika - thank you for creating something specially for your fans - Toy Boy is my absolute favourite but all the songs together with the book are just perfect. Thank you xx :wub2:

  9. Anyone willing to discuss some of the art work with me? Mainly the second drawing for Toy Boy by Al Columbia. It makes me think a lot. I'm trying to inrepret the interpretation :bleh:

When the boy is in bed it is not clear whether it is the boy or the toy boy. But have you seen how the adults in the picture are depicted with their mouths open - they have a say in what goes on, and ultimately rule. Then there's the boy who's either dressed his toy to look like him, or has fashioned himself like his toy? and his mouth is closed. He's doesn't have a say and is subject to others' control. I know his hands look like toy hands, but is the boy in fact just a reflection of a toy - where others ( the adults) are in control of his life and his body is left limp ready to be moulded by others. The smile of course we all know can hide many a true thought. The picture under his lamp might reveal the boy's real frustration. And through that he is able to scream out how trapped he feels! Any thoughts? ;)

  10. I'm a bit less crazed today. Have been to work and concentrated quite well. However it's coming up half eleven - what am i doing on the MFC site? I have got to get a grip!!!! And really I should stop listening to just Mika or maybe at least listen to something other than Toy Boy. Poor obsessed me!

  11. ur in my life.......... is it right 2 love mika so much? i saw him at sadlers wells 2. now i cant stop thinking about him the dvd is aways on or the ep. i really do love him is it right.......... im 25 and have a boyfriend and 4 kids. he thinks im mad but he dont mind. lol its like mika mika mika in my house. now the kids love him. he just 2 sexy. monday was the best day ever cant wait 2 c him again. xxx

Well I hate to break it to you but no if you're thinking about today's world your fascination with Mika is probably bordering on obsession. And yeh i'm the same - the people in my house have banned me from talking about him!!! But hey in Mikaworld we can be who we wanna be and say what we wanna say, so if it makes us happy let's carry on. My 4 year old niece and 6 year old nephew are crazy about him too!! But what is there not to like?

  12. My thoughts?

First, the "regular" fans, the "meh" fans -the ones who bought the vast majority of LICM's five million copies sold - are not going to "get" a lot of this album. In fact, I think even a lot of MFCers aren't going to fully embrace it like we have LICM.

As for the wider audience, the unwashed masses want Grace Kelly and Love Today. They want hyperactive, happy, radio-friendly bubblegum pop. They do not want Lady Jane and Lonely Alcoholic.

For regular fans who loved Grace Kelly, this EP is going to be out of left field. Think about it. If you only casually followed Mika's career, you'd be shocked that the guy behind the LICM hits is now singing songs like these.

That said, I think this EP is Mika's sandbox. He got this idea for "Songs for Sorrow" and created these little stories. This isn't a commercial foray. Mika doesn't expect to sell five million copies of this EP. Especially when you consider songs like Lady Jane. That's not a pop song. That's never going to see radio play. The only one of these that has any chance whatsoever at radio play is Blue Eyes, and that even depends on what the actual EP version sounds like. In fact, against the other three, Blue Eyes is the one that doesn't quite fit.

Then you've got the whole artwork thing. That again is totally self-indulgent play; this whole project is Mika playing around and spraying his brilliant, quirky artistic mind all over in the form of four whimsical songs and some star-studded artwork. He has all these amazing, colourful, wacky ideas, and this album affords him a platform to share these ideas with his fans without the pressures associated from the commercial expectations for the actual second album.

This all might sound quite critical - I don't mean it to be. I think it's a great project, and I can't wait to get my hot little hands on a copy of that EP/book. I think it shows how multi-faceted Mika is, and that excites me.

As for the music, I'm on the I-think-it's-brilliant bandwagon. I'm quite biased, though, because I'm enamored with the tone of Mika's voice. Pretty much the only thing he could do to turn me off as a fan would be to mess with that tone; use a ton of synth distortion on the vocals, or switch to screaming death metal. :naughty:

I interpret Lady Jane to be a total fable, a "dark fairy tale" as Mika likes to say. Maybe it is a satire directed at some other work I'm not familiar with; I'm not sure. I can't wait to see the artwork that comes with it. I love the way it ebbs and flows, musically. The "I order you to get that fish's head on my plate" line is this crazy intense crescendo. Then "They killed little lady Jane" is so mellow.

Lonely Alcoholic is interesting. I see it as more social commentary than the whimsy of Toy Boy and Lady Jane. I love the fact that it's mostly in his lower register, which contrasts so well with the falsetto of Lady Jane. The last minute of this song is so damn rich. Amazing for something so raw and acoustic. And I can't help but wonder about this line: "Well they say that I am doing my duty to the world; well you could say that that is onerous, I'm just craving to be heard." I would go so far as to say that line epitomizes the whole purpose behind this EP.

As for Blue Eyes and Toy Boy - both were out of this world live. And given that I was there at the Roxy, I'll always have a serious soft spot for those specific performances. So as for the EP recordings, well, we'll see when it's released.

Two final things: I can't wait to hear these songs performed live. I so hope he does Lady Jane and Lonely Alcoholic on this tour. Seeing his expression while singing makes all the difference. And secondly, I can't wait to see the credits in the liner notes. I'm curious if any of these were solely his efforts, or who the co-writers were.

Oh - and seriously. We thought he should write a musical before? This just seals the deal!! :naughty:

I went to see him at Sadler's Wells last week - just incredible!!!! Since then i've basically not stopped listening to my EP and all of LICM and anything that he's sung on YouTube. The guy is just fascinating. His songs and his creativity hold no bounds. I agree with what you wrote about the Songs For Sorrow - it's nice to think he might have written something for a group of people he knows would definitely appreciate it. And the flip side of that being that if you consider songwriters are "craving to be heard" that we are a group of people who will listen. (In my case over and over!) He is however, in my opinion by no means mediocre! Unfortunately I know loads of people that don't get him or his music, and I cannot for the life of me understand why. And as for Toy Boy - what a song - i don't actually want to stop listening to it. The book - stunning. There isn't actually a song that i've heard Mika sing that I don't like. ;)

  13. I was lying on the sofa a couple of Christmases ago and I sat on Life in Cartoon Motion (which was a gift for someone else), popped it in the CD player and I haven't stopped listening to it since! First gig - Brixton last year - best thing i've ever done before or since! Sadler's Wells tomorrow nite - can't wait!!!!
