I really love the emotional part. It totally sounds the "old Mika", imo, and it's enough for me to wait more music, I finally feel we have him back. Like you said, French fits perfectly to this song. I was happy to read that three French songs will not be bonus songs but a part of the album even in US. Not because I particularly want French songs but because I'm glad he has courage to do what he feels right and what he wants. Not sure either if BBB was originally written as an anthem, still appreciate it that he talks about the issue

I'm hope he puts some French songs on the US version of the album. I don't speak French and can't understand them but I love the emotion they invoke. I have noticed that since I have been following Mika's career and reading posts on MFC, I have learned so much more about other cultures and countries. I probably would not have learned so much if not for Mika. I see the world beyond my borders now and have more of an understanding of tolerance for others. I know some people won't like the French songs on the US version but I see it as a way to open up people's eyes to see beyond their own front yard.

This song makes me feel incredibly happy! Bouncy with joy! I have no clue what he is saying but his voice is simply amazing. I read the translation and I have heard more vulgar lyrics in songs that play in America. The lyrics seem more like playful naughtiness than in your face nasty (like Miley Cyrus). The music is so catchy! I have to say I really like this song.

I'm only disappointed in the cover because it is not original. And yes, they will erase a line on the cover for US iTunes. But the theme of the tribal masks and totem poles is getting stale for me. I long for something fresh, new, original in terms of the artwork. I feel like he is so busy that he just throws something out there from the back of the drawer instead of trying to be creative.

As for the song, there isn't enough there for me to have any feeling on it yet. I have given up hope that any of his music will play well in the US. I love everything he sings and chances are I will love this song as well. But I can't see it getting any airplay in the US.

And obviously "quand toi et moi on fait boum boum boum" means that Mika will join that guy at playing drums at some point

If you can't handle personal details, stop here, because this story is going to be quite personal, indeed.

 

I was in the process of recovery from a very bad 2006. I won't even go into details beyond the fact that I had plunged into this terrible, endless abyss of pain and my depression, already an everyday part of my chemistry, had resulted in a suicide attempt. I was barely functional over the holidays and the new year, quite frankly, sucked so far.

 

My oldest daughter had me go out with her for a while, and I went, even though I hated the idea of being around anyone else. Surely they all could feel my hurt, but did they care? Oh heck no. So few people did then.

 

We were walking through a department store downtown, through the teen section to pass through the skywalks on that floor. And that's where I met Grace Kelly and Mika. My head turned toward the television screen that was playing music videos, and I stopped, mid-aisle.

 

Something in the performance struck me to the core, in a way no one had since Queen, in 1978. I'd had my Richard Marx fixation in the late 80s, early 90s, but this wasn't the same at all. I stood there listening, not fixated on the kid singing in red beyond his movements, which I could see in a blur because tears were streaming down my face faster than I can describe. Discovering him as a person, his facets, slowly over time, I found much there to admire and appreciate. Still do.

 

Still, my fandom was low key, and remained so until about a year ago. Thus I missed his performances in the area where I live, but I have gotten tickets to Montreal. I am going to make it happen, as my birthday gift to myself for surviving to half a century!

I feel bad that you had to suffer through such a terrible time in your life. I just find it amazing how music can heal us to an extent. I hope life is better for you now.

It is strange how Mika's voice can just "capture" you. Pre-Mika, I was in another room in our house when the video for Grace Kelly came on. I heard his voice, came running to the television and stood there with my mouth open, thinking all the time "he has the most amazing voice I have ever heard". The video was also original and not cookie cutter like most other music videos at that time.

LOL! I had a Richard Marx fixation as well in the 80's! And I'm not ashamed to say it but I have been a huge fan of Barry Manilow since 1975 and have seen him in concert twice. Once in Vegas (awesome show)! Barry has the same sort of charisma like Mika has that captures you when he is on stage. And I discovered Barry the same way I discovered Mika. I was watching American Bandstand (March 22,1975) when I first heard him. Bad thing was that we didn't have the internet back then to find out about artists or watch you tube videos. You just had to hope and pray that you heard them on the radio!

He's also a couple of months younger than my son, so it would be weird of me to fancy him. I don't think of him romantically. He's more like a family member, in my heart.

I feel the same way. Mika is one month older than my youngest son. I never have looked at him in a romantic way. I am totally fascinated with his voice and his music. I heard his voice before I ever saw what he looked like. His voice was what caused me to check out more about him and invest myself in his music, his vision.

Too bad you're so far over that way.

Part of my mom's family has been in this area since 1878, both here in WA and in ID (where I was born). We're quite a rag-tag bunch and there is no one career path anyone has taken. I saw that you've been to Seattle for shows. If they happen there again, maybe we can meet up!

That would be awesome if Mika would play in Seattle again. My friend and I drove all the way there. We spent a couple days exploring the city. The concert was amazing, it was the first time I had seen Mika live. It was so worth the drive.

Spokane is a little ways away but when you live in Montana every place is far away! Spokane is a nice place. A few years ago I visited a friend for a couple of days there and we had a great time.

Are you in western or eastern Montana? I'm still in eastern Washington for a bit yet...

I live in south eastern Montana. We live near to one of the entrances to Yellowstone Park. I live on the plains side of the state. Not too far from mountains. My ancestors settled here before Montana was a state so I come from a long line of Montanans. Cowboys, ranchers and farmers.

Everyone is at the outer edges of the country, except Nebraska...

I'm proud Montana is represented but I think I am the only Mika fan in the entire state of Montana! A lot of my friends and co-workers say they like his music but they aren't a hard-core fan like I am.

My oldest son lives in Lincoln NE so we know Nebraska very well. At least 2 to 3 times a year we make the 850 mile trek (one way) to Lincoln. We usually drive. We drive different ways sometimes going through South Dakota, sometimes driving through Wyoming. Long stretches of road with a town every once in a while. Kinda like Montana!

Seems like there were more than 50 tickets available though, doesn't it? And they were all over the place.

That was my impression. I wasn't able to get on the computer to buy tickets until a couple of hours after the fan presale had started. I didn't think I would be able to get any at all. While I didn't get front row (understandably) my seats are only about 5 rows from the front. Which isn't bad.

I told my husband that I knew what my next birthday present could be (my birthday is only a week after the concert)! He ignored me at first but I'm pretty sure I can wear him down. I'm sorry my co-worker can't go with me this time. We always have great times on our Mika trips! But even if I go alone, I'm sure I will have plenty of MFCers to keep me company.

I love the French songs even though I can't understand what he is saying. One of my favorite songs is "Un Soleil Mal Lune" and the emotion it envokes makes me cry. I am in love with Mika's voice (to me it is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard). He could sing songs in any language and I would still love them. I do understand that most people will probably dismiss a song if they can't understand the words but to me, the music and emotion supersede the language.

I swear that I heard thunder a couple of nights ago. Strange for February. I guess the Northern Lights were really spectacular over in North Dakota. I didn't think you could see them this far south but I guess you can.

So, Mika doesn't have a personal Facebook, but does he ever go on Facebook or post things himself?

There is a Mika Facebook fan page but I do not think he personally posts to it. I think they use it mainly for promotion. I don't know if he has a personal Facebook page. I would highly doubt that he does because he is such a private person. I know he has a love/hate relationship with Twitter and rarely posts on there. But I do believe most of the Twitter posts are his. Not all posts but most. Or maybe it is just wishful thinking....

I was so excited because it said he was going to be in Las Vegas! But I looked on the Hard Rock Cafe website to see if he was listed and he wasn't. So it is a fake. I wondered why he was playing the same place at the same time as last year!

Hopefully he will come tour the US again (sometime). Then maybe we can meet up at the same show! You will LOVE seeing him perform live. He is an ultimate showman and am so happy his music found me.

I am also so very thankful to everyone who translates the interviews and articles. I watch the interviews even though I can't understand anything just because he is so animated when he talks that I can't help but smile. But it is really nice to read them and know what he was saying. So a big thank you to everyone for doing such a good job translating!

That's what my car is for, when I'm driving around town running errands. My own little Mikaverse. I sing to my heart's content. I need to remember,though, that other people can see me. I can get embarrassing. Must also learn to stop doing the hand gestures along with WAG. Both hands on the wheel.

BTW, I know there's a list of Mika terms on here, but I don't recall. Is there a term for when all other music that isn't Mika's sounds bland and pointless? I'm suffering from that now. If there isn't one, we need to invent one.

It's now only -4 here. I actually left the house today to get the mail, but it was totally worth it. I got my copy of Songbook Vol.1! The design is so lovely. For some reason the rest of the family did not want to listen to it immediately, so it will be my treat tomorrow when everyone else goes back to work and school.

Pandora I definitely saw you in Seattle but I was not sure if it was you in Chicago. I should have just asked. We also went up to the balcony because it was too cold and miserable to queue all day.

I wish we could have met too Christine. I hadn't been a member of the MFC for very long before the Seattle concert so I didn't really know who anyone was. I'm sure you saw me up in the balcony in Chicago! I was in the front row, I had on a bright yellow shirt, screaming the words to every song, and embarrassing the heck out of my husband! It would have been cool to meet you in person. I'm sure we will end up together at another Mika concert in the future.

And I vote that you should be an honorary American!

I was also at the Chicago show in Oct 2012 with my daughter! Where were you standing? We were up front.

We were sitting in the front row of the balcony. I really wanted to stand in front by the stage but I thought my husband would be more comfortable where he could sit down. I don't know how anyone could sit during a Mika concert but he did! However, I stood through the entire show and did enough dancing and singing for both of us!

I wanted to wait after the Chicago show to see Mika but we left too soon. At both the Seattle and Denver shows my friend and I waited around after the show and were able to say hello to Mika and talk with other fans.

Hello! I would love to be added to the list as one of the two Mika fans from Montana (my friend being the other).

I am also older in age but young in spirit. I have been married for 33 years and have 2 married sons. One son is older than Mika and my younger is only one month younger than Mika. And I am now blessed with 3 granddaughters and a grandson. I work in real estate at a small local bank. And I love cats but don't have one right now.

I first "heard" of Mika in the beginning of 2007. I heard his voice (not knowing what he looked like) and that was all it took. I bought LICM when it was first released and played it constantly. It just made me happy to hear his voice.

I have seen him in concert three times. Once in 2009 in Seattle, right after the ankle incident. My friend (the other Montana Mika fan) went with me and we had an awesome time. The second time was 2012 in Chicago. I went with my husband and had a great time visiting the city. However, like most husbands, he was not thrilled to see Mika! But I had enough excitement for both of us.

The third time was in March 2013, Easter Sunday, in Denver. The intimate tour. Again I went with my friend and it was the most incredible concert I have ever seen. The venue was small, we had the perfect place to stand, Mika sounded incredible, and best of all I met some other great Mika fans.

I will always be a fan of Mika no matter what. His music and voice have brought so much joy to my life that there is no way I would ever be able to repay him.

Good news...I saw that an MFCer posted on Swatch US's Facebook this afternoon and they responded that Mika 4 Swatch would be in the US by November 19/20.
