  1. Brilliant idea! I've subscribed :)

    Questshun;

how do we add videos to the account? Excuse my youtube ignorance :lmfao:

When you have a video you'd like to upload, just ask me or any of the other mods for the password to the account, and you can upload to it directly. The username is MikaFanClub2010.

When you're signed in and on any page, towards the top right of the screen there will be an "Upload" link. Just click on that and fill in the details :)

Btw peeps, I have an acoustic of WAG HERE if anyone's interested. It's a bit rubbish, but oh well :naughty:. Please let me know what you think :biggrin2:

Also, my page is in my sig, and more Meeks covers are on the way:mf_rosetinted:

  2. I quote Meeks in Vertigo....One of his interviews about Blue Eyes.

Did anyone pick up on it? I was like....shout out to the obsessed MFCER's I so love ;)

Ohhh yeah :) I hadn't watched that interview before... it's a good one (but not as good as Vertigo) On a related note, is the "Relax and take it easy for a while" in Awkward related to Meeks? :biggrin2:

Also, do you have any more Sammy Rae Stickers? I'd love to have some, but thought they might have all gone :(

Also also, d'you think you'll be posting "studio" versions of the new songs? I can't hear them very well :) Thanks

  3. Hey everybody! So....tonight it my biggest gig yet. Were expecting an insane amount of people, possibly a sell out.

Heres my setlist, dont share it with anyone over the pond who might be coming :):teehee:

    1. Oh

    2. Happy July

    3. Quality Cardboard*

    5. Twisted Emerald City

    6. A Pirate’s Song*

    7. Guess Who Doesn’t Like You Very Much

    8. Vertigo*

    9. Hello

    10. Blast Off

    11. Mr. Sprocket

I will be posting video , but not all of them. Most likely just the new ones :)

OMGOMGOMG!!! I NEEEEED to move to the States :roftl: thank you Sammy! Hope the gig went well!

  4. Wait, I was away a few days and got to thinking: Mubbina's being the mubbin form of GGG would explain her absence in the "Beautiful Freaks" picture!

All the mubbins, BG, LPG, BB, Dr John and even Mika make appearances but she's not there...

And nor is Toy Boy BTW...

The song is unappologetic about being different and wanting to go places (or do things that people might think are a bit wack) and I think maybe he says "Empty loving makes me seasick" because, as you said, he did it but didn't feel good about it. He went through a very dark time I think and maybe HE was the one experimenting (with sexuality, identity and trying on different things to learn what he liked and what he didn't like so he knew whether to do it more or not at all) and so yeah... But he got asked about the V-day ticket and he didn't really answer it did he?

Once again, I heard about this from OMM and he sort of just said something about the date and made it seem like it didn't mean so much to him because how old was he in 96? (his words, not mine. I also remember he tried to add it up and then gave up trying the mental maths :roftl::fangurl:) so I'm not really sure. But isn't it on the same page as those mean letters?

I'm a little rusty on it all seeing as I don't actually have the album near me. I haven't seen it since I handed it over to a trusted friend, along with all the contense of my Mika-box because I was fearing for its safety. That was around february or late january :wink2:

    To the CD rack!!! :original:

I also have a "MIKAbox" full of press cuttings etc., and I think the V-day ticket stuff was from the Sunday Times Culture Magazine (STCM?) but can't be sure as I've lost mine moving house a few months ago  I wonder if it was possible he was just dodging the question. He was in London School of Economics, after all...

Also, on V-day 96 he was almost exactly 12 and a half, which is a little young for "empty loving" if you ask me :naughty:

I didn't think the ticket was on the Rain letters page, I thought it was one on the front cover and one on the diary page, in the deluxe edition at least.

Yes, the letters are really mean. One of the people in there I should like to give a punch in the face, the "Remember, nobody likes a loser" letter writer. I bet they're kicking themself now.

  5. Ida' date=' his sister :original: And in the other pics, the other girl is Paloma, another sister[/quote']

Umm, I think Paloma is his older sister (second to Yasmine/DaWack)... I think she designs his sets and sings with him a bit. Ida sings on Blue Eyes, Happy Ending, and a few others. She also sings live a bit, like at Sadler's Wells... but she's not a relative, I'm pretty sure they met at RCM :original:

  6. Brilliant thread. (:

Would anyone happen to know the piano chords to Stuck in the Middle?

I'm not so great at reading music so the sheet music wouldn't help me much. :P

It's the same as the guitar chords...

    Intro, played twice:

    Dm7 for a bar,

Gm9 or Gm for a bar,

    C for a bar,

    F for a half-bar,

    C/E for a half-bar, so the bass goes F, E, D.

    Verse, played twice:

    Dm7 for a half-bar,

    Gm9 for a half-bar,

    C for a half-bar,

    F for 1 and a half counts,

    C/E for a half count,

    Gm7(add4) for a bar - 3X331X - G F Bb C

    C7 for a bar.

    Chorus, played twice:

    F for a bar,

    C7sus for a half-bar,

    F for 1 and a half-bar,

    C/E for a half count,

    Dm7 for a bar,

    Gm7(add4) for a half-bar,

    C7 for a half-bar.

then the intro, then the verse and chorus,

    Bridge:

    Cm for a bar,

    Bb for a bar,

    F for a bar,

    C for a bar,

    Cm for a bar,

    Bb for a bar,

    F for a bar,

    G7 for a half-bar,

    C for a half-bar.

Then a bunch of choruses, which either fades out or, in the acoustic, goes

    Stuck in the midd-le

    F, half-bar C/E, half-bar Dm7 (bang on the piano quite hard)

    Hope that helps!

  7. My theory on GGG is maybe this girl is trying to get a break and starts off with all these morals and ideals about how she'll be able to say she's got a clean slate and works hard and doesn't drink etc but can't... hence "the life you wanted, you were only 17 with a Good Girl dream" - fame and fortune, without the cost.

(Or maybe she never really cared about morals and such, just pretended to.)

BUT she soon discovers it's not easy, and starts to fall apart, and "needs somebody to notice" but her pride in her morals - her "goodness" - "gets her down"

Also, about the "when the end of the night gets tricky, don't you know that beggars can't be picky?"... I always thought this was him saying "beggars can't be choosers"... she wants to go home with someone at the end of the night, but, in Holly Golightly-style, refuses to settle for second best and wants a rich man, young or not, even if she's now past her best and no-one really wants her...?

I don't know, just offering my tuppence worth.

  8. why are you annoyed?

you should know by now that mfc has the most up-to-date info when it comes to mika :naughty:

:teehee: true, but I did miss his fab performance on Abbey Road last year. He was on at 11.20 PM GMT and they posted the message at 11.15. But now I will never miss a beat, for I am an MFCer (my mother calls us "those weirdos" YAY!

Btw big thanks for the download. So far, so good!

  9. I recorded the interview and will record the "Red Button" stuff, I'll try to upload them without breaking my TV :) Kind of annoyed that mikasounds.com didn't mention this... oh well.

On a side note, wasn't the brass in BIOTG nice? And his Princess Grace impression was fab :teehee:

  10. I've recorded it, and shall record the "Red Button" stuff. I might well break the TV in the process but fingers crossed. Really annoys me that mikasounds.com didn't even mention this... didn't even know until my friend rang me up and told me... almost missed it, grr.

On a side note, wasn't Blame It good?

  11. You can use the link with which Jo posted it a while ago (just quote her and copy/paste the code into your sig) and then put [ url="www.youtube.com/willsing4fun" ] [ /url ] around it :wink2:

    aww brill :teehee::biggrin2:

Ahh... apologies but I think I've been unclear here. What I meant was the purple SRMF logo, with the musical notes...? Sorry! Thanks for the help though :)

  12. Is "fork out" an expression? I have never heard it before. If it means what you say it does, ofcourse it makes sense. I thought it was just fork as in knife and fork. That would be a bit more random ;)

    Thank you for explaining ^^

I always thought to fork out for something is to spend money on it, eg I always fork out for MIKA singles, even though it can be expensive :teehee:... so really fork out wouldn't make sense... If it was "fork out for my daylight" then he would be saying "make an extra effort to bring daylight to/improve my day" which is kinda the opposite of the rest of the song. I always sing block out. It's hard to tell with MIKA, he sings with such an odd "airport accent" :)

I have a feeling this OMS conversation may go in cirlces...

  13. Maybe. But wasn't he quite frivolous in his teen years when it came to... Um... "Empty loving?"

    :teehee:

As in from One Foot Boy? Yes, I think so. But he did say he disliked it ("makes me seasick")... I always thought that meant that he hated it when people went out with him just for the status... like seeing someone on 13 February just for the card the next day. Or maybe he got the feeling that people went out with him as an experiment, to see how weird he was. I hate how people do that...

Maybe he did try "Empty loving" and then felt bad? On a side note, there is the train ticket from Valentine's Day '96?

  14. OMG you are a jenious about Mubbina-vs-GGG!

I thought Rain was written more recently than his TBWKTM years. Possibly he may have had a hard time with his family for a while?

Like how his mother knew more about his secret life than he knew at the time. And how she said he was either going to end up famous or in prison (I think?). And then there was school which we all know was less than perfect... Yeah...

    Thanks! :biggrin2:

"Famous or in prison", haha that's brilliant! I think a lot of celebrities, especially musicians/artists are like that (Lady Gaga?)... "Too weird for the real world!"

I got the impression that Rain was a breakup letter from the TBWKTM years, which he sent and only remembered when it came to writing TBWKTM...? Idk

  15. Yeah, that sounds right. Something about a rainbow waterfall and teens running away from school because they hate it.

Why did Mika want to run away? He said the Mubbins were like versions of himself (I think in the Observer Music Monthly last year). I mean, we know he didn't have a good school life but what about his family?

Hey, random fact: Napoleon complex isn't what it's actually called. It's one term used because Napoleon was a short man who conquered places to make up for what height he lacked. But truthfully, Napoleon was average height for a man back in his day. His guard happened to be very tall, thus, making him look short.

    That's what I heard anyway :wink2:

Ha, now I'm going to obsess over Astor's "psychological handicap". From the look of the second school photo, he's the tallest of the Mubbins...

Yes, I read the OMM article. I think I've at least got an idea as to why Mubbina would want to run away.

In picture ten, where Mubbina is crying in the forest, she is next to a Missing poster asking about Good Gone Girl, who REALLY resembles her.

In a Radio 1 Live Lounge interview from when TBWKTM came out, MIKA said GGG was about a (small-town?) girl who made it big.

SO I was thinking Mubbina was the GGG who got tired of her non-stop lifestyle, paparazzi, etc., and ran away.

BUT then they drink the rainbow water, and she can't go back, and regrets it?

Coming back to the "Why did MIKA run away?", I'm not sure. It seems to me that, from interviews and songs, we've got a pretty good idea of his childhood, but he's nowhere near as open about the TBWKTM years. I think if he DID run away, it might just be because he had an argument with a family member and stormed off. Mind you, I think he must have made up, as he now lives in his parents' house :biggrin2:

Ooh! New thought: given that Rain's lyrics are taken from a break-up letter, maybe it was just lots of things at once: bad time at school, arguments at home, AND a breakup... I think most teenagers would run away, if only for a few days. I'm probably wrong by miles, though. :)

  16. Does anyone feel like there are bits from the AIM story that are missing?

    Yes... in

MIKA says the idea for the video is that he's run away from home - hence the Missing milk carton at the beginning. I think he also says that the Mubbins have run away from home before the start of the book, as we see it...

This is my theory on the story:

Four teenage friends/acquaintances want to, for various teenager-y reasons, leave home. They start to "stray from the beaten track" and *ahem* experiment  I got this from Drinky saying on picture five "We should have stuck to cider".

    ...

Somewhere along the line (later than this, as the water gives them a Mubbin-not-teenager appearance) Mubbina regrets leaving and misses her life back home (picture ten). She "cried, and cried..." :crybaby:

    ...

Also along the line, probably around the same time in the story, Drinky starts blaming other people for what happens to him - "his mother... his father... anyone but himself" - picture six. :badmood:

    ...

After a while, most of the group adapt to their new world. Astor, with his Napoleon Complex (shall we call this NC?), tries to solve the mystery, and help them. I think Mubbina looks a little sad in picture twelve - maybe she's smiling through her tears; "grin and bear it" etc...?

Narco just... sleeps, and Drinky stays bitter and hurtful (he's stabbing a voodoo pin into the doll [Toy Boy?] at the end).

Also, here is MIKA's "Behind The Artwork" video, which has quite a bit about Mubbins. I can't remember how much, as my computer won't play it, but it's really interesting anyway...

I've kind of made this up as I've gone along, so please let me know what you think... :wink2:
