  1. When I listened to this song for the first time and the lyrics reached the "for every love I had to hide" part I felt so unbelievably sad. The very thought of him being denied of something like heaven for being gay is just unacceptable. I don't believe in any kind of afterlife or religion at all but the concept of heaven can mean a place that is safe and everything that is good generally. Having said that I guess the lyrics can refer to every obstacle a gay person have to face nowadays for being who they are. Or to anything that a person is made to be ashamed of by society, really, as we are constantly begging for acceptance in this world. It's not a god that denies people of freedom, people do it to others. It's such a moving song with strong lyrics and a beautiful musical background and I think it will mean a lot to listeners, regardless of everything.

  3. Végre eljutottam oda, hogy itt is írjak valamit, szóval először is annyira örülök, hogy néhányotokkal innen tudtam találkozni! :group_hug:

  4. I can't even put my feelings into words. It was so incredible, one of the best nights of my life, I'm still under the influence. It was my first Mika gig and I can say, it was perfect. I live in Budapest, so I didn't have to bother with traveling, I met some incredibly nice people, and eventually the weather didn't ruin anything.

Before the Editors concert I managed to get into the first row, at the left corner of the cordons and when the performance ended I found a spot a few meters away, in the first row, right at the left corner of the stage. So by the time Mika's performance started I had a fantastic view, the people around me were cool, they didn't even push me at all, so I had place to watch and jump and take some photos. (After I almost choked to death in the crowd a month ago on a 30 Seconds to Mars concert, it was like heaven.)

I couldn't believe when he was coming towards my side and he stood right in front of me three times, singing and bursting a big yellow balloon. :biggrin2: I don't think I could be happier.

I loved that he was talking a lot, joking and he seemed like he was having a good time. I was grinning like an idiot during the whole time and sometimes I still can't help myself and smile when I think back.

I am so madly sorry about that I probably just missed him after the gig as I left at midnight, but my friend was waiting for me outside the festival so I had to go... Anyway, next time I'll calculate the waiting time in and catch him :wink2:

All in all, it was purely amazing, I really couldn't ask for more :wub2:

Edit: I almost forgot, I loved the way he pronounced the word "sziget" :teehee:

  5. akiron111, jó látni, hogy vannak itt újak! :) Megkérdezhetem a keresztneved? Merthogy a felhasználónevedet tuti nem fogom megjegyezni... :naughty:

Szóval Mikán is valami hasonlót tervezek.

  6. I wonder how big is this team who's in charge with Mika's FB page, because obviously it's not big enough :aah: Besides messing up all the lyrics (which is not very important, maybe),they don't even give the right dates for the shows. Therefore,Mika is playing today in Philadelphia, and Monday(:aah:) in NY,Boston is on 12th,instead of 13th,and of course,Mika is doing Marseille in June 22

They should definitely check those show dates :sneaky2: last week they announced that he will be performing at one of our local summer festivals :fangurl: but they weren't sure about that it'll be on 9th or 10th of August... It looks like they've agreed on the second date but it's still missing from the list on mikasounds :dunno: I hope they won't change it later because I have to buy my ticket and the date would be really important

  7. Maybe I'm a bit late but I'd really like to show you my entry for the competition. I had no idea what to write and I was also wondering what to put in my signature here. Then I figured out a sentence for the sig and I realized that something similar would be perfect for the competition too because it just fits me very well :blush-anim-cl: so here it is

  9. Na akkor biztosan hatalmas élmény lesz neked! Nagyon jó csapat jött össze a múltkor is. A 8 óra várakozás szinte semminek tűnt.

  12. ... or naive:teehee:

I can relate to what he means though. I think religion (including its rituals) can play a significant role in 'coping' and this must be the type of spirituality he feels when he enters a church... Even when I do (typically during sightseeing:teehee:) I also feel more spiritual somehow but it is more a type of universal respect to people who have visited that building in the last hundreds of years... etc. I also love concerts in churches. They elate me somehow. So when he talks about faith and the ceremony playing an important part in some people's life, I can relate to that, even though it doesn't have a role in mine. Basically, what he confuses is where this positive feeling is from: it surely comes from all the people assembling together to celebrate something positive and / or the acoustics of the building if it is with music, so it does not have much to do with the politics of the actual establishment that has 'organzied' it.:roftl:

I agree with you. I hadn't thought about him being a hypocrite while I was reading the interview just because he only mentions things that he "likes" about Catholicism. I'm an atheist and I have certain views on religion but I respect other people's beliefs as long as they don't want to convince me. Religion is obviously important to Mika because as he said himself, a big part of his life growing up was church. We can't ask him to toss it away because Catholic Church has bad reputation in some (very serious) ways. The journalist asked a question about religion and he replied honestly. He also said that he doesn't agree with the pope's views and everything that the Bible says but he has the right to have faith in some catholic values. He must be careful about the topics he's discussing in media, and children being victims of pedophilia is a really hard topic. I don't think he's completely ignorant about it. Primarily he's a singer and being a human rights activist might not be compatible with his career right now. Also, these kind of magazine interviews aren't the appropriate places to discuss such topics. But it's just my opinion.

  13. Indeed, I think the only time songs get any major spotlight at all in films, is if it's in a Quentin Tarantino film,or if it's the theme to a Bond movie. Otherwise it's quick clips of songs between/during scenes or at the end when the credits are rolling.

Yeah, something like that, unfortunately

  14. I hope it's a coincidence, but if it is true we'll all have to go onto the site and tell them, in no uncertain terms, what we think of how badly they treated the song and Mika, in the first film, and tell them we want the song IN the movie, not at the bum-end of the credits, and that the video needs to be part of the bonus features on the DVD, and that the whole thing with Mika needs better advertising and publicity this time around.

But I'm hoping it's a different movie he's written a song for and that he'll get treated right by whoever it is.

Well I've commented anyway. I said there was a rumour and I know it might not be true, but it gave me a chance to say how badly Mika and his song were treated last time. It might make people listen to We Are Young if they didn't realise it was there.

I'm hoping it is a different film though.

Based upon my experiences, unfortunately movie makers only collaborate with singers to advertise the movie with the song and its video on music televisions. They rarely put the song into the movie, they keep it for the credits... I don't understand it but it seems like that's how it works. For example, Adam Lambert recorded a song for 2012 and Leona Lewis for Avatar but neither of the songs were played during the movies. If Mika's making a song for a new movie, then I really hope that it's gonna be for something bigger than Kick-Ass II so he can get more spotlight this time.

  15. Your English is virtually flawless so don't feel self-conscious!! :thumb_yello:

I think the only thing that would give you away as a non-native speaker is when you say "I've studied German". You can say "I've studied German for 8 years" (meaning you have studied German for the past 8 years from the present) or "I studied German for 8 years before high school". But really your intention is very clear so you don't have to worry about being misunderstood. And I make much more obvious errors when typing on a message board. I have a habit of saying the exact opposite of what I meant to by leaving out the word "not" and that kind of thing. :aah:

Thank you! It feels really good to hear it! :huglove:

Also thanks for the correction, it was really useful! And that's why I read everything twice before posting to avoid these kind of mistakes, though it doesn't always help :biggrin2:

  16. But it doesn't.

I wouldn' throw all English teached in shools or training courses away but the real deal doesn't begin untill you start to read books and papers, watching films and TV series without subtexts and most of all have conversations where you have to express your own thoughts and ideas in English.

The Internet has been the most valuable source for me in learning and training my English! Of course I had the basics from school but that is nothing compared to what I've learned those Internet years!:blush-anim-cl:

I totally agree with you! I started learning English when I was 14 years old, so it was 4 years ago and I have to say, most of my knowledge comes from lyrics, books, movies and TV series. In my class we have two English groups - one for those who are good at English and one for those who aren't. I've studied German for 8 years before high school so I automatically got into the second group. Now, almost 4 years after, my group mates can barely create a correct sentence in English while I'm preparing for my English final exam on my own, a year earlier than it would be necessary. I know that I still make mistakes both in grammar and spelling but at least, as you said, I can express my thoughts in English. Writing here is still a big deal for me because I understand almost everything but when I'm posting a reply I'm always worried that people won't understand what I wanted to say. :blush-anim-cl:

  17. It happened to me with Overrated, I heard "stars are magic, life is tragic" and the correct words are "stars are magic, light this tragic" :naughty:

I heard that too when I first listened to the song, then I checked the booklet and I was like WTF it's not life?! :lmfao:

  18. Oh I think this is the right thread for me :naughty: because in Overrated I always hear something like "and we know that the others" instead of "and you know that love is..." In the acoustic version I can perfectly hear the right lyrics but when I'm listening to the album version I'm unable to get it right :fisch:

  19. When I first read about this competition and watched the video I was quite happy because I like this "secrets on sunglasses" idea a lot. But then I realized that I have no chance even though I can draw but I suck at creating little messages. I never know what to say, neither in real life nor on the internet, now how should I figure out something special, especially in English?

I won't give up though, at least we got enough time to think about it.

I'm also worried about this whole "we'll then gather them up, upload them into a gallery, let everyone have a look and leave comments" thing. Okay, it's not a popularity thing but still.

  20. Aaaw thats sweet! :biggrin2: Mika will definately change your live, in a good way ofcourse!:wink2:

His music makes me so happy that practically he has already changed my life :')

Haha, you're not even late compared to me :aah: And you're here now so it doesn't matter :D That's great :thumb_yello:

    Yes, you're absolutely right :biggrin2:
