I can't see the point of releasing a video of unrelated images of Mika :dunno: It doesn't add anything to the song - in fact if anything, the shots of Mika goofing around actually detract from the words.

If they wanted something visual, why not just film him singing?

I Agree, I just watched this. all the footage is cute and nice but what does it have to do with the song?

You are not the only one who asked this question.

But why do you think so?

For sure the music was on playback - as it was not the standard version of Mika's songs but about one minute of each one with the back vocals - what Mika uses during his concerts. Actually he can make a concert alone just using pre-registred background music and voices.

We discussed it as well during the last MFC Insta Live.

We don't think Mika would even have accepted to make the lip sync. He always sings live.

As Deb explained (I didn't know about it) for the huge TV shows like this the music is recorded during rehearsals just in case of technical problems. The rehearsal tracks have even been posted here on the thread.

Oh, I Was Just curious! He was so flawless and the performance went so well, that I was thinking to myself If maybe any of if is a playback. (For the music - yes, i'm sure it was playback and same goes for the backing vocal tracks). I know MIKA does great live shows but I Wasn't sure how this kind of stuff is happening in such large event like eurovision. I Was 100% sure he was live but still wanted to make sure!

I know, I didn't mean the repetitive lyrics. It's the musical genre of this song, this is house music based on the synthesizer and bass beats, basically it sounds like DJ's remixes made on a computer. Sounds very mechanical and impersonal, which is far from Mika's style, imo.

He also said that he doesn't want his music to be considered a background music, yet this song suits very well to this category. But it's good that people enjoy doing exercises, running, vacuum cleaning or doing other chores while playing it, maybe he'll also attract different fans now

I Agree. The musical arrangement of Yo Yo is a bit too much DJ's remixes. It's not the repetitive lyrics that I'm bothered with (That's Fine, Mika does that a lot and with Yo Yo, it actually helps to deliver the message.

  5. On the one hand, I'm glad Mika released a new song. On the other hand I wonder what I think of this song. It reminds me a bit of "Cry" from MNIMH, something with the EDM vibe.  I Do think it's very Mika-ish song but It feels a bit like listening to a Remix rather than the original edit. I Get it that Mika sometimes puts on songs which are much more "mainstream" than others and I do hope it will succeeds in charts!  But for me it won't be the best one from him, But I Still enjoy it and play it on repeat... on the beat... on repeat... :lmfao:

  6. To Celebrate MNIMH First anniversary, I decided to write a bit what I think of each song. It's been a year now, and I can judge it better. When It was just released, writing a review about it felt wrong, I Mean -  I Was so hyped and exited. Now I Know which songs Still on repeat and which not... So:

    1. Tiny Love: A Masterpiece. On repeat forever, probably. Definitely starts the album on a *very* high note.  that's also a problem to be honest: it raises the bar of the rest of the album! TL it's a love anthem, just like Origin Of Love. I'm in love with the song and it's really one of Mika's best songs! and also the music video is unique.

    2. Ice Cream: I remember hearing the song live before the single came out, and it took me some time to get used to the studio version which sounded at first a bit lifeless. But it grew on me! That said, I Love the sound, it's a fun song!!
    3.  Dear Jealousy: Love the theme of the song, I Can relate with it a lot.  In terms of production, I'm feeling like the use of  the gospel choir in the end is not enough!! I Want more!! there is some live version he did on the voice france which I just adore.

    4. Paloma:  Honest & touching. It reminds me of old pop(?) ballads. I'm in love with the ending (fly balloon!!!:lmfao:)  and I Wish it was longer.

    5. Sanremo: I Like it! the music video helped me to understand it better!

    6. Tomorrow: I Like it too, but the lyrics not really speak to me I Guess... But I do like to listen to it and dance:lmfao:

    7. Ready To Call This Love With Jack Savoretti: I'm afraid that even after a year i'm still not really in the mood for this song... I mean, this other duet with MIKA is great but this is.. mediocre love ballad? It's fine as a song, but Mika can do better!  feels like the weakest song of the album tbh

    8. Cry: At first I Was like.... what?!... it's grew a bit on me but it isn't of my favs

    9. Platform Ballerinas: I Like the theme a lot! not really on repeat for me, though, for strange reason!

    10. I Went To Hell Last Night: One of my favorites! I Like it:  lyrics, production, everything. Very Fresh, but still Mika's Sound. Beatles much!

    11. Blue: Beautiful. Beautiful. lyricly it's a masterpiece and very poetic which I like, shows Mika writing skills. Very Calm. Mika has a voice on angel!  But I really need the right mood to listen to it... it's a jem! a hidden gem of this album!

    12. Stay High: Cute song! I Like especially that part he once shared on ig story!

    13. Tiny Love Reprise: It's a beautiful way to end the album. sometimes i'm listening to TL and then skip right to TL reprise, just to hear them "as one". I Do see this track (13) as a part of TL.

That Said, MNIMH Is a Beautiful album. Mika, thank you for this. I'm not really sure if if i'll rank the album where i'll put it - definitely before The Origin Of Love... But it's good, it's honest, touching album, and i'm happy for it. :groupwave:

I dont get why Mika had to be on the Eiffel Tower and not on stage with everyone else. :aah: I feel like Ive just watched two different performances that some video editor put together by mistake :roftl:

    I Agree

the focus is on the dancers, it seems to me. sometime they show Mika himself but most of time we only hear him.

I Don't understand what's the point of putting him on the top of Eiffel Tower and not with all the other dancers!  and singing "relax take it easy" on the edge of an Tower... well...

  8. Just a thought in the middle of the night before going to sleep -

In the last few weeks I Had (still have, a bit) a hard time, a lot of that has to to with me being jealous of other peoples. With Facebook and mostly Instagram nowadays, I'm jealous i'm jealous i'm jealous at everyone as Mika said. It's not my top favorite in th album - I Won't even put it in the first places - But I'm really feeling the connection with the song, and thinking to myself that even Mika, that in my eyes is so successful and admired feels Jealous at others - It kind of... comforting, like, everyone deals with Jealousy.

    I'm thankful for this song...

  9. Finally,  There is a review about the album in a Hebrew site. Well it's rare too see anything about him in Israel so I'm happy to see it! I'm translating it to english using google translate:

MIKA, My Name Is Michael Holbrook

Mika is one of the most amazing melodists in pop world. In "Life In Cartoon Motion", his 2007 debut album, Each track is loaded with its own unique and energetic energy of Freddie Mercury vocals, a combination that creates a style of uplifting and refreshing fun. I listen to Mika's fifth studio album, and relish almost as much as the first time. The name of the album- My Name Is Michael Holbrook, may hint at a completely personal theme, and yet the songs sound universal. It offers two extremes of the romantic arc, tracks such as 'Tiny Love', between grandiose romantic gestures and a kind of affection that feels grounded and realistic. Alternatively, in "Ice Cream," he sings about "The Tap Continues to Drip," or the sexual instincts that connect to synth sounds that revert to pops of the '80s and' 90s.

Since the release of Life In Cartoon Motion, his presence on the sales parade tables has been declining, even the arrival of his second album "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" into the top ten in the UK has not improved his commercial standing. It is unclear if the new album has greater odds, what is more clear is that it is restoring the essence of Mika's first two albums. It also has exceptions like the rhythmic "Platform Ballerinas" that sounds like a career change. The song deals with the beauty standards set by the company, and expectations look perfect 24/7. The song celebrates female individuality in funky pop dance pop in the best of the seventies-eighties decorated with palettes and upgraded female harmonies.

Although Mika usually shows a loud scream, this time he was also heard in melancholy tones as in "Paloma," a song about his sister, who in 2010 fell out of a window and suffered life-threatening injuries. He describes her as angel, before being thrown out of the sky with an emotionally unfamiliar tone. His (Mika) "moody" mood also stands out in "Blue" - the color connotations that are confusing. Some will say that Mika is more successful in the sunlight temperamental songs and less in the dark songs.

One thing can be agreed: when Mika radiates his unbridled positivity, not many pop artists are able to get close to his complex, inspiring music like the songs on this album, just about everything that pop is looking for - melodic, harmonious combination of R-N-B, synthesized sound . Rarely does he go for the fashionable. Instead Mika again chooses pop music that stands by itself without a time test.

    4.5/5

Oh I like this kind of ranking :D

    A+ Sanremo, Cry

A list: Ice cream, Ready to call this love, Paloma, Blue

B list: I went to hell last night, Dear Jealousy, Tiny love

C list: Tomorrow, Stay High, Tiny love reprise ( this wouldve been an A if it was only Mika singing and Ready to call this love a C without Jack )

    Z list: Platform Ballerinas

So... I Guess you don't like Platform Ballerinas? :roftl:

Edit: I Also thinks that Mika should sing RTCTL alone... Jack doesn't add anything special idk
