  1. Wow - those are great pictures :thumb_yello::thumb_yello: Thanks for sharing (and the video too... I had to do some searching for more jock strap shots -:roftl:) Liking the outfit... and wow - Jake's hair is REALLY short! He wears it well :biggrin2:

And I kinda have to agree about Invisible Light... think it's my favorite track from the CD... although on this tour - live - my fave is Harder You Get... Jake's antics make my knees wobble... I'm surprised it's not on the set list. Maybe it's a little too sexual for a festival audience? Anyways - still a great group of songs!! Can't wait to see them again :thumb_yello:

  2. lucky you!!! i'm happy you can make it there. :thumb_yello:

i've noticed that the sonnets (w/ orchestra) are absent in this program. i hope it's not because of all the whiny classical critics. they should realize how beneficial it actually is for the classical world when someone like rufus tries to cross over... instead of shredding him to pieces...

something tells me, though, that they won't stop him at all...:biggrin2:

wish i could see some of the judy songs sometime, too...

how many nights are you going?

    Thanks!

On the last night... where it's billed as "Rufus does Rufus" for the 2nd half... and the orchestra/etc is there - maybe some sonnets will pop in :wink2: I'd like that!

Since I'm making the trip... I'm just going to break the piggy bank open and see all the shows:blush-anim-cl:

They are all different - except for the repeat of the Judy show... but wth!

They're billing the shows with Martha and Loudon as with the band :groovy: So I'm assuming that's accurate. While I have been loving the solo tours he's been doing the past couple years... I do miss seeing Rufus with a full band :biggrin2::clap::clap:

I'm lucky that I have friends in London who will have a bed for me --- so I don't have hotel expenses... so I'm gonna splurge! (although I am going to cut a few other things I had planned - no Atlanta trip for Jake :boxed:)

    I'm very excited obviously :thumb_yello:

  3. yeah - well it's been an exciting few hours! happy for Rufus and Jorn :wub2::wub2:

and the shows in London - WOW!! :biggrin2:

an amazing mix of shows - and I didn't get to see the full Judy show - so I can't wait! :thumb_yello:

it came on so fast... up at 3 am this morning to buy tickets which was stressful... excited... but a bit sleepy... going to be a long day at the office today! :sleep_1::sleep_1:

  4. I know what you mean - the Gaga prices are exhorbitant!!:shocked: But I can't let Jake come to DC without seeing him - so I'm seeing them with Gaga Closing... It will of course be an abbreviated set list - but it's my hometown - It would be rude not to go :blush-anim-cl:

Now I get to go to their own show at the 930 Club :biggrin2::biggrin2:

Probably will do Atlanta and Montclair NJ shows too - the first and last - plus they are not too terribly far. Can drive to NJ... and cheap flight to Hotlanta - I'm thrilled that there are new dates - a shame that there aren't any close for you :sorry:

  5. aww... well - the eyes are kinda funny - but I kinda like it :naughty: and somebody has decided to wax :roftl:

Anyways... a bunch of new US tour dates were announced this week!! Some headlining... and a few more with Gaga :thumb_yello:

  6. :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

Yay - I'm so glad that you had a great time... And that the aftershow went a little smoother than the last time :thumb_yello:

I hope to get a chance to see it myself... although the reviews are somewhat mixed... they are beautiful pieces of work. And having the cheaper seats may have been all for the best - a friend of mine went to a couple of the performances - in the front orchestra - and 1 from up in the balcony - and he told me it was much better sound quality from above :thumb_yello:

    Enjoy the afterglow! :rasta:

  7. the date has arrived :biggrin2: I know koolj5 going tomorrow... don't know if anyone is going to tonight's show in San Francisco...

wish I could be there --- anyone lucky enough to attend this weekend - have a Fabulous time!

    :partytime2::partytime2:

  8. well I don't know if you know about this... and it's a bit down the road... but while Rufus said he was taking a year off from touring... a couple random dates have popped up... and in the midwest... with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra :biggrin2:

from a Ravinia press release (where they mis-spelled his name:furious::furious:)

" Folk-rock musician Rufus Wainright will join CSO and conductor Jeffrey Kahane on August 14 for the Chicago premiere of Wainright's settings of Shakespeare's sonnets. It will share the bill with other classical works inspired by the Bard and a solo set by Wainright.

As of this writing, ticktets for the 2011 Ravinia season will only be available through the website, ravinia.org. For information call 847-266-5100."

I think tickets are onsale to members only at this time... and the general public sale is early in 2011...

    here's a link

    http://www.ravinia.org/ViewDate.aspx?date=8/14/2011

  9. ok koolj5 :biggrin2: for what it's worth - I say you gotta go :thumb_yello: I don't know if you said which night you already had tickets for... but you should go the 12th - you probably know this already... but Rufus is part of a Q&A after that evening's performance

    From the SF Symphony Website:

Off the Podium, an informal Q&A with Rufus Wainwright and Jeffrey Kahane, begins immediately after the November 12 performance.

Please be there for this :wink2:

  10. yep - sounds like you got it --- his parents, Richard and Linda Thompson are musicians... his sister Kami... another talented family :thumb_yello: They are old friends - I've seen him a few times performing with Rufus... he's great. I really don't think he'll be opening at the shows I'm going to ... just would be Fab though :biggrin2:

And Rufus did say that he was taking a year break from touring after his Carnegie Hall show... but that was when Carnegie was tentatively scheduled for Dec 29... now Carnegie is officially Dec 6 - so other shows have followed it. So I'd guess that the Aspen show the 29th is now that last for a while? Who knows - lol... I did ask him after his show in DC if he was serious about the year off thing... and he said yes - that he'll do the one off shows or appearances every now and then... but no tour for a year or so. So time will tell I guess... I'm happy to have 2 more at least :thumb_yello:

Forgot to mention - there is already a "one off" scheduled in Louisville KY Feb 5th - where Rufus is performing with the Louisville Orchestra!

  11. well... oops - you guessed it :blush-anim-cl:

the Delaware show is literally in my back yard... and Carnegie is a train ride away - and the day after my birthday - so a must :biggrin2:

The Carnegie show is sort of an event... I think both will feature the Lulu first act... Carnegie will have Stephen Oremus - so we'll get some Judy stuff... but doubt he'll be at the Delaware show - so that one will be Lulu with the 2nd half of Rufus oldies at the piano...

Teddy Thompson is opening for Rufus in Canada - so far just officially announced for the Vancouver show --- but would DIE to have him open in Delaware or NYC :thumb_yello: he's just fab! do you know Teddy?

watch for our boy here :roftl:

  12. Rufus is quiet here... but lots of new show dates are popping up in November and December -:clap::clap: - especially in Canada!

so much for Rufus taking a break! :naughty:

  13. wooo! 3 days! i have no idea what to WEAR! :aah:

And are they doing the whole US Monster Ball next year?

Because then im gonna need to go! Semi Precious Weapons and Scissor Sisters the same night? That's just too amazing. I mean I like Gaga but im not a fan enough to go for her alone.

Excellent - so we have 2 going to the Oakland show :thumb_yello: You and koolj5 will have a blast - hope to hear about it :biggrin2:

And the reports I've read say the Sisters start opening (or actually I prefer Perez Hilton's phrase that Gaga will be closing for the Scissor Sisters :wink2:) for the North American tour starting Feb 19th in Atlantic City.

They BETTER be at the DC show - as I have already bought my kinda pricey tix --- and while like you - I like Gaga alright -- wouldn't be going if it wasn't for the opening act :biggrin2:

  14. couple quick things :wink2:

First - they do I Don't Feel Like Dancin' - I abbreviated it in the set list (IDFLD) - my bad. Jake actually climbed up into the balcony and sang a chorus hanging from the ledge in DC and Philly...

Second - 2 of the shows I went to last week were general admission - and I like my specific spot - so I got in line pretty early... it's hard to say - think it's different from place to place... in Atlanta - doors opened at 8... the line started to form a little after 4 - but really didn't have more than like 10 people until like 530 or so... Philly was a little later... doors opened at 730... and there were really just a handful of people until like 630 or so - and in Philly - the floor was pretty open until the Sisters came on. (Sammy Jo will DJ for about an hour... Casey Spooner comes on for about 1/2 hour... Sammy Jo another 1/2 hour DJ... then they'll come on). It's a wait - but well worth it :thumb_yello:

  15. I'm kinda partial to Invisible Light myself :thumb_yello:

I'm recovering from a week of a few shows this week - went to the Atlanta show last Saturday.. DC Monday... and Philly Friday :thumb_yello: Their shows are better than ever - just amazing.

Atlanta was the kickoff of the US leg of their tour... in a sold-out general admission venue. I've never seen such a frenzied crowd for a show - they have a personal trainer for the tour - and it shows! Jake is buff (they all look great) He's non-stop dancing and gyrating... all over the place. The clearly loved the crowd reaction - Jake crowd surfed after Filthy Gorgeous - jumped right out over top of me :biggrin2: I haven't seen him do that before!

DC was a seated venue - so a little strange - but pretty much the whole place was on their feet the whole evening.

If they are appearing anywhere near you - HIGHLY recommend seeing the show - it's like no other -- it is rather adult-oriented though - don't recommend bringing children - :naughty: Jake has a tendency to ... ummm... show off shall we say. He's always stripped of his pants by Ana during Filthy Gorgeous --- and the outfit in Philly was pretty much a bunch of strings with a clear mesh that pretty much was just like winding some dental floss around himself lol.

The set list was pretty much the same for all the shows...

If you go - do try to say hi to them afterwards -- they are an incredibly nice group of people - all of them very personable - and very willing to sign/do pictures etc.

Vids didn't turn out for me - the audio is terribly garbled when it's so loud... I have pix... but not sure how to post... I may post a few if I can figure it out.

  16. oh - darnit - a couple bittersweet posts... I'm sorry the aftershow meeting didn't go quite perfectly  Next time... maybe chat first and get that out of the way... then if time ask for a picture... at least you did get the signature - and he is a sweetheart :thumb_yello:

And I am GREEN with envy --- you are going to the Sonnets with the SF Symphony?? :thumb_yello: How Fan-Flipping Fabulous... would LOVE to be able to splurge and make a vacation around it - but just can't make it happen - :aah: Such a unique event... I can't wait to hear about it!

I did get to go to the Water Mill Benefit yesterday - with Rufus and Kylie (Minogue)... it was really an interesting show. They did about 10 songs together - some of her stuff... some of his... each kind of struggling with the other's genre - lol... Rufus singing and dancing to Can't Get You Out of My Head was adorable - although clearly not his element... and the same said about Kylie's ventures into the Wainwright/McGarrigle songbook... but proved to be a fun afternoon.

Here's a vid if you'd like to see...

And the Scissor Sisters... let me go reply on there -- but WOW! Nothing like Jake live :biggrin2:

  17. I am still undecided about going to that show, although I would really like to. I am getting married the day before and although our honeymoon plans aren't set in stone, I am not sure if my fiance will want to head to KC for a show. We shall see!

Hey - I don't know if you are going to the KC show or not - but just heard that it was announced that Lucy Wainwright Roche is opening :biggrin2:

If you haven't seen her before - she is absolutely delightful -- beautiful and angelic voice... very funny on stage... and a sweetheart. If you go... you should say hi during the intermission as she'll probably sign cd's -- she is a dear - love her :thumb_yello:

  18.

if you meet him after, does he sign things at all?

if he comes out - it's been my experience that he pretty much always will be happy to autograph things...

and if he has enough time - will be happy to pose for pictures with you. On nights when he is rushed - and there are a larger group of people waiting - he normally will quickly sign and may not have times for pictures...

it really just depends on the schedule/whether or not there is any kind of after party or whatever. Not that I know - but I'd guess that there's a good chance he'll come out after your show (the shows in NYC area - where he has a lot of friends/family in attendance are less likely to get to see Rufus afterwards - because there often are after-show plans with friends/family... so I'd think you'll have a good chance after the Napa show)

So there's no guarantee -- but more often than not - I have been able to say hi etc after the show :thumb_yello:

oh --- and by the way --- he will sign things... but he won't personalize with a specific "for xxxx,,, etc.." he will simply autograph your item with his signature.

  19. Just a quick note on the shows this week and setlist for you :original:

There wasn't much variation from night to night ---

Lulu of course is the first act - and after the intermission

    Beauty Mark

    Grey Gardens

    This Love Affair

    Matinee Idol

    Memphis Skyline

    Art Teacher

    Hallelujah (with Martha)

    Moulin Rouge (with Martha)

    Nuits de Miami (with Martha)

    Little Sister

    Dinner at Eight

    Cigs and Chocolate Milk

    Encore:

    Poses (with Martha)

    Going to a Town

Walking Song (his mother Kate's song)

The shows were all great - aside from the one in Asbury Park (it was the first US Lulu performance - the venue was Horrible - a disrepectful beach crowd - talking during the performance - as he walked in - not paying attention to the 'no applause' request for the first act - people being seated throughout... it all kind of set the tone for that evening and was a bit of a lackluster Lulu). The rest of the Lulu shows during the week were nearly flawless! Positively gorgeous.

Highlight of the week was the Ridgefield CT show - it was a TINY venue - kind of like a fancy old-time movie theater. Gorgeous performance - and Rufus had Martha bring out Arcangelo (her new baby) during Poses. It was his first stage appearance :wub2:

I would advise that at 2 of the venues - they started early - tix stated 8 start time = but Martha started between 730-745. You DO NOT want to miss Martha's set - she blew the roof off every night - the audience gave her standing O's a couple nights - uproared in cheers when she came on to sing with Rufus. I love them together :biggrin2:

And if you like to meet him afterwards - the odds should be pretty good... we were able to say hi after each of the shows - he was very sweet as always.

  20. OH Napa - how perfect! I'm jealous - love Napa Valley... perfect setting for a Rufus concert :thumb_yello:

Sunday was great - of course - but unfortunately, the audience and venue left a little to be desired... there was a lot of audience chatter and disruption during the first act ... and it kind of set the tone for a slightly lackluster Lulu... by the 2nd half Rufus was back in form and gave a great show. He's been on vacation for a little while - so this one was just a warm up :thumb_yello:

Lucky for me he is in the mid-atlantic to start the US leg of his tour --- so

I'm seeing him a few times this week - in Philly, Connecticut and Maryland - all with Martha - so I'll let you know what the set list is like. He has been keeping it pretty much the same for the Lulu shows in the 2nd half - changing up a 1 or 2 each night... but with Martha it will be different... because she will join him for a few songs in the 2nd half of the show (most likely April Fool's... Hallelujah (you may know Rufus said a while back that he wasn't going to be doing that anymore - but Jorn convinced him to as a video of Rufus performing it had over 7 million hits on youtube :roftl:) are pretty sure bets).
