There's more going on than just Mika demonstrating pride in his heritage. The "born in Beirut in 1983" spiel was all part of the marketing spin when they launched "the project". I think it's appealing to some people but in the United States it would be best downplayed. Identifying yourself as Middle Eastern instead of the American citizen that you when the US is engaged in a war against Middle Eastern terrorists strikes me as a very bad marketing strategy - to say the least.

Yeah maybe, but surely not all Americans think that? I mean, I'm sure that when most people heard that they didn't immediately went: ''Oh crap! He'll invade the charts and then shoot us down!'', or ''Huh. We're in a war with his country, so we're not gonna buy his album.''?

That'd just be narrow minded.

About the promo:

They could have done way more than this over here. Loads of people over here didn't even know he had a new album out. There aren't any commercials about the album on tv and stuff like that.

Rain got a lot of airplay in the beginning, but the videoclip wasn't out, and the single wasn't officially released yet. So when it finally got released, it seemed people were done with it already. It has only been in the charts for a few weeks and it's highest position wasn't even in the top 10 yet.

The only Dutch channel I've seen Rain on was MTV Brand New.

His album nor his singles aren't in the charts. Not even in the top100.

Rain is a good video, especially compared to some previous Mika videos .

I personally think Rain is his best video so far!

It looks the less cheapest, it has the best effects and stuff, and it also just looks the best in general IMO.
