  1. O M G! I've just got tickets to my very first MIKA gig in Montreal!!!! Woohhoooo!! I can't believe I'm finally going to see him live. I'm gonna be in the same room as MIKA. OMG!! I hope I stay concious long enough to see the show, though.:wub2: Wish me luck and I'll see you all there! Woohoo. Only now, I have to figure out how I'm going to get there.:aah: By car it's about 10 hours; longer by bus.

  2. That's my MIKA. :thumb_yello:I'm very very happy for him. Counting the days for TBWKTM. Have a super day everyone.:bye:

"The Camp One Comes Up Pop Trumps Again"

    4 stars = Excellent (out of 5)

The artist know to his Mum as Michael Holbrook Penniman is a one off. Out he flounced two years ago singing songs about Grace Kelly and girls with big bums, ever likely to break into a ludicrous falsetto and comporting himself like a precocious Rufus Wainwright.

There were many who considered him the spawn of satan and found his jolly camp as appealing as the contents of a sick bag.... Not that Mika should care. His debut album Life In Cartoon Motion found a home in nearly six Million households worldwide. So although the Lebanese-born kitsch conductor divided people in a way that say, Elbow do not, there were more than enough in his camp to make this second album an event.

There were but two courses for Mika to take this time around. With the unfathonable reasoning that grips many successful but not acclaimed stars he could opt to woo the doubters with an austere new direction.Or he could continue to go about his buisness while at the same time suggsting an artistic development from the fun but flawed first record.Being no fool, there was little doubt which way Mika would head - and any that lingered will have been dispatched by the single and title track.

A glam-pop storm of grand proportions,We Are Golden reintroduces that falsetto, utilises the services of not only one but two chiors and in all probability has had many a kitchen sink tossed at it to boot.No one driven to tears by Mika in the past will abide by it.For everyone else its a terrific return-the fact that it brings to mind both the gargantuan melodrama of a Jim Steinman production and a climatic High School Musical Show tune being but part of the appeal.

Rightly it opens the album with a flourish and sets the tone for all that is to come. For while nothing as over-the-top follows,it serves notice of Mika's improved craft as a writer of great pop tunes and the degree to which he understands great pop:that is should be rendered in bold primary colours, get to the chorus before it bores us and in doing so provoke extreme reactions.

On its heels (We are Golden) come two surefire hits: Blame It On The Girls (clipped piano, a rhythm track of clapping hands) and Rain, wherin Mika calls upon the services of Madonna collaborator Stuart Price to release his inner Madge by way of prime time Pet Shop Boys.

If trimming a couple of the tracks that ensue would have made it a tighter record, nothing lets the side down either. There is a brace of power ballads that echo the grown up Take That (I See You,By The Time),vaudeville (Dr John), power pop (Touches You), much else that is giddily insistent and further fine songs in Blue Eyes, One Foot Boy (Prince when he was fun) and Pick Up Off The Floor, which could have belonged to Judy Garland.

We get to know no more about Mika the man through any of this (the suggestion on Toy Boy that its protagonist maybe "better off with a Barbie Girl" is knowing - his sexuality remains otherwise off limits), and that too is very pop. But in writing and performing every note, and in so doing bringing to mind everything from George Michael and the Scissor Sisters to Madonna and the Pet Shop Boys in the flush of (relative) youth, he is undoubtedly a star of the old school - And A Rare One At That.

Indie dullards are habitually applauded for their labours, pop stars with panache less so. Yet this is as bold, daring and vibrant an album as we'll hear this year. In any event, Mika is likely to have the last laugh.

  3. Hi.

I so hate spiders, too. There have been two between my patio door and my screen for like 2 days now:blink:, so I don't open it of course. I should just try and kill them both as they are not THAT big, but still. It would be two against one and I'm not that brave. I'll just wait until wintertime. I don't really need to open the door anyway. What's a little heat and mugginess. Sheeesh.

Anywho. That's my bit about spiders. Now to the more delightful subject of MIKA. What a nice video, eh? By "nice" I really mean "OMG:mf_lustslow:". Wow! My favorite lyrics are " Like a magpie, I live for glitter not you". Visually I love every part of him in them jeans. WooHoo. Yummy, too. :wub2: I cannot wait for the album. I just hope it comes out in Canada on Sept. 21 as well. God, I love the WAG video. I think I'll watch it again.

    Later,

PS. Good luck with that spider.:sweatdrop:

  4. I want contests and prizes! :blush-anim-cl: For fans in every part of the world.

It would be nice to have exclusivity. Mika has spoiled us with a few examples of this for his fan club members already and I'd love for it to extend to presale tickets and such.

I would love the lyrics posted to all his songs for the 2nd album - or better yet, a contest to figure out the lyrics.

It will likely (and eventually) include his music videos too.

Oooh! Lyrics to all his songs on the web site is a super idea!:thumb_yello: And the OFFICIAL lyrics from the man himself would be so nice. Some lyrics I found on some sites were just plain "What the?". So, yeah, I would love to see OFFICIAL lyrics on the MFC.

    Salut!

  6. I totally agree with you. As the old adage goes: "It takes time to prepare good food". Well, it's probably the same with good, no great, music. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. But honestly, I think it'll be before september (fingers tightly crossed). I was thinking it might be more like April or May.

I imagine it's not going to be easy to put out an album that will top or even equal LICM, but I just know that our MIKA can do it.

And I've read in other posts that he could lose fans over this. Well like some said, the hardcore fans will NEVER leave. :wub2:

    Later,

:naughty: He said that in April 2007, not yesterday.

You know people generally don't work day and night 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. They are allowed to go out and take holidays.

Mika spent years putting the first album together and he did all kinds of stuff in between writing the first verses and the album hitting the shelves. I am betting a lot more time transpired than most people realize and it's not realistic to expect him to churn out an equally good album in less than 24 months.

You need to experience life in order to feed your imagination and your creativity. You can't just lock yourself in a windowless room until a great album comes out.

  7. FINALLY! I bought my copy at HMV (December 16) and I can honestly say that I sold them out. I wish I were in the UK where MIKA is everywhere. I think I must be the only MIKA fan in my part of the world, or so it seems.

What I loved the most about this DVD is that I could see MIKA in a better light, literally. LICM was darker.

The concert was such a feat, with all the effects and acts, and the people, WOW! SPECTACULAR! And all those people to see our beloved MIKA. How proud he must be! I know I am. My daughter asked if I would cry should I ever see him live in concert (godwilling) and I said I would.:blush-anim-cl: I can't imagine ever being in the same room with him. I WOULD DIE!!!

The fans that got to attend are the luckiest of us all. I like how MIKA HAD to be the one to attend all the meetings and such, and when he said that this way, if anything went wrong, he would only have himself to blame. I can relate to that.

And at the end when he walked into the stadium to see the stage all set up like that. The look on his face was priceless. To see your vision come to life...All I can say is WOW!

What I'm trying to say is WOW! :roftl:

  8. I can't say I'm tired or bored of Mika, but I can't wait for the second album. It will be a blast!! I'm still listening to LICM EVERYDAY. I know, I know. I'm certifiably obsessed. I should have the username of mikaobsessed, but it's already taken. About his blog, I like seeing where he is and what he's doing. It's like spending time with him. Anyway, it was nice chatting and, yes, it would be nice if he would have tea with us. Later,

  9. I shall get one, too.

  10. when I first read your WYR I think it is so romantic and sweet and cute and I'd pick the 1st one: lock lips with Mika for 1 whole minute, cuz that is so sweet and agressive like and romantic totally and after we'd be so caught up in it we'd do it again and then spend the day with eachother.....hehe!

    would you rather:

have dinner with Mika and after he walked you up to your front door steps and you smiled at him very sweet and he gave you a sorta seductive look and just grabbed you tightly and kissed you hard but gentle a french kiss on the lips and after you hugged eachother and he said "goodbye Love" or have dinner with Mika and after dinner he invited you up to his room and then when you were in his apartment/house Mika and you walked into his kitchen you were turned the other way and Mika was facing your back and you turned around to say something but when you did he grabbed you agresivley and gave you a french kiss and he said make love to me and you refused and said I can't we just met and you also said I'll call you 2morrow and he said "goodbye Love" *swoon*:wub2:how romantic go ahead answer!!

Whoa! They both would be sooooo scrumptious!!!! So I guess I would pick the second one. It is so much fun to dream.
