I think this interview fits in this thread, Mika was interviewed by France Inter when he was in Montreal about his passion for Barbara
Thanks Ysa for posting
Thanks so much Ysa and Camille:flowers2:
It was fantastic to hear this wonderful analysis of Barbara's music. Also really loved the image of her as a Miyazaki character!
Mika's performance of La Solitude has always been absolutely beautiful:wub2:
Wish he decides to play that song live again some time.

Thats my fave of the Montreal interviews, it's so cool and relaxed. Also it's made me think that Montreal must be a fantastic place to visit. I'd love to go there some day.

Hi I went to this festival and I had a LOT of fun ! I start to wait a 2h30 PM and I was just beside some of you I think. I killed my camera, it took 570 photos and some videos (but not a lot because it was forbidden)
I can show you some videos that I took !
During the soundcheck, sorry I moved at the wrong moment, I was so excited that I forgot my camera:
You must look at this one:
My favorite, short and sweet !During Lollipop :

I think this is the moment he turned and saw us all waving the fabric squares at the beginning of Celebrate -- because this sure is The Smile that we got for that.Everybody lets fangurl!!!
Not the best vid. But you see his reaction.
it's so heartwarming to see that happy smile:wub2:

Mika Speaking spanish, Underwater & HE:wub2: he says his first show of his career was in Ibiza at 5 am in front of six girls without dresses and two boys completely painting ( don't know what he means that, maybe naked...) and his manager and his mom and two....(don't understand the word) in a small room in Ibiza and he thought "merde" that's my career a freak in a freak show, but really tonight it's the place we've preformed more incredible in Spain but the more incredible thing it's I'm still a freak in freak show and then talk about that people who's having a dinner at the restautant and says: tonight there are three friends close to us so everybody say hello to those three people, and said to the responsible of the lights: put the lights on the crowd and then adressing to that people he said " eo cabron aquí" haaa!!

THE man.
he came on... and.. i died:aah: he had such a great energy and looked SO HAPPY!!!! During a song, i cant remember now, he looked under his hat and looked at me as i sang the song.. i :fangurl:ed
LOTS of eye contact!!!
He even pointed my way when he said:the origin is you! during TOOl... i died again
I cant remember the orders of the songs now.. but.. BG was great, Relax amazing!!! my first time seeing the oooooooohh-aaaaaahhh awwww!!!! really felt like i was watching a vid on youtube.. but for real!!!!!!!!
Loved that he did Blue eyes... BIOTG he separated the crowd in two.. (AWWW I WAS HOPING TO DO THAT ONE DAY!!!) we were astronaut and elephant (he really loved those hot air balloons LOL!) and we lost. but i have this theory that the boys part always win cause its louder to say BOOYS and GIIIRLS.. maybe im just crazy.
That was amazing. the crowd was SO GREAT! yelling screaming singing.... wow..
Songs from new album got great reactions: Lola, Underwater(he explained before that he wanted to quit everything 2 years ago.. took a plane to montreal, wrote that song.. and then was inspired again... we know the story.. but it was nice to hear for us), TOOL(OK, THAT SONG SERIOUSLY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY!!! WOW!)
Love today was eve better than expected.. again i hoped he still did the jumping thing cause ive never done it of course.. so i was all hyper... !
Happy Ending was AMAZING... truly.. he looked happy..
I loooove the new style of lollipop!!!
i almsot drowned under confetti during WAG hahaha!
Random mika stuff:
-During SITM, he said the song was for his grandma(again we know the story..) BUT, he said: my grandma is here... so i cant say that its about her now... Its the only place shes travelled to see me perform except from Lebanon.. (NAWWWWWWWWWW)
-he tried a bit of GK in french but quickly got back to english
-Towards the end of the gig, he talked about the first time he cancelled the show at the festival.. He had problems with his ears. And he said: .. "sometimes, you look back on your carreer.. " i dont think he finished that sentence.. he sounded kind of emotionnal.. and he said:"to be here tonight... in that magical place with balloons and an octopus n the back there(yes, there was an inflatable octopus..) is an honour. Thank you..." He really looked happy and thankful.. nawww
The surprises!!
So, when Celebrate started, i was like EEEEEEEEK!! here we gooo
All mfcers took the flags out, and the crowd followed...
Mika was busy looking down.. then looking at Joy... he mic was stuck XD, then looking down.. i was like COME ON!! the crowd were all waving their flags...
So then, he finally looked up... and stopped...
He had this HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE smile on his face!!!! he was so surprised... He kept on singing and grabbed a piece of fabric and looked at it and the label( I FANGURLED HAHAHA) and waved it also.. i think he kept it for like half the gig LOL!!! he really loved it!!! And i jumped like crazy.. and he looked at me and smiled so much...
At the end he just said:"...thank you.. really"
And the crowd started singing happy birthday... but we were all not synchronized! and the band started playing but mika was like: shhh!! wait!!! and tried to hear us sing hahaha.. it was cuuuuuuuuuuuute!!
OH and guy waved a banner during the song as well.. tho i didnt see it when she waved it, im sure mika did!!!! he gave us the thumbs up after hhahaha
During EMD, we had confetti poppers.. so we used them.. again mika gave us the thumbs up (gooood fans we are LOL!)
Then the gig ended... mika ddnt look like he wanted to leave really. With all the songs he took his time and sang more choruses and at the end as well.. And he just stood there looking at us for like 30 secs... and then he waved with the band and left...
Can I just say that I loved reading your report, it's so full of excitement! So glad to hear that the concert was so amazing and everyone enjoyed themselves so much! The surprise with the flags must have been such a special moment:wub2:
The DELIGHT on his face says it all. He is seeing hundreds of waving fabric among the energized crowd at the start of his performance of "Celebrate".Festival des montgolfières - Aug. 15, 2012 by SuzyTM, on Flickr
what a pic:wub2:
wish we get to see this moment on video too.

MIKA A bomb fell on Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
15-08-2012 | 10:34 p.m.
SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU - This is the International Balloon Festival of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu that the pop star Mika chose to hold his electrifying birthday party on Wednesday.
The show was highly anticipated. From his first moments on stage, he was warmly received by the public, came to see the energetic Lebanese in large numbers.
He started partying with Big Girls (You Are Beautiful), before moving with Relax, Take it Easy. Within seconds, he conquered his audience by addressing him in impeccable French. He then measured the energy of his fans asking them to sing along Blame it on the Girls.
To celebrate his birthday as it should, the star, which will celebrate its 29 candles on August 18, pulled out the heavy artillery, dropping a good fifty balloons during Celebrate.

thanks for your reports, pics and vids everyone:flowers2:
it's obvious that this must have been yet another super amazing conert:wub2:
After WAG he disappeared for a moment and came back to sing TOOL. And at the end of the song when he says " THANK GOD THAT YOU FOUND ME" he adressed at the crowd and pointing with his finger to all of us said: "Thanks God that you found me" it was so excited isn't he lovely?
what a beautiful moment this must have been:wub2:
loved your report Alba, really happy you had such a wonderful time!!

and finally this my late report :original:thank so much to Sarina for translation
Me and my daughters arrived at te venue quite late cause we had seated places. After we greeted the people we know that we didnt see in 2 years, we got close to our seats where there was another MFCers called Miquette, which I didnt know in person until that day.
The gig began, the band started to play and then MIKA finally showed!!!! Big Girl first, then Relax and I was all occupied to take pictures and made videos when my daughter Eleonora told me that Mika's mother was arrived. She passed by and she went inside the sound controller tower, I went there to say hi to her, we shook hands and I asked her about Paloma, then she turned and she said hi to my daughters, I sat again and I enjoyed the show till the end even if sometimes I watched Ms. Penniman that still very close to us inside the sound controller tower all the time, dancing and singing in a happy mood.
Immediately after Mika had finished to sing the last song, his mother came near us, she said hi again and shook again our hands asking how we felt and then she said something I didnt understand till when she said the magic words "pass" and "backstage" (that I immediately understood) and then I began to feel nervous. I said to my daughters "She'll bring us to Mika". We were all excited and confused! Eleonora took Elisabetta's hand to help her to go down the stairs and Ms. Penniman took her other hand to help her too. Miquette asked if she could join too and she replied yes. Excited as I was I think I said to Ms Penniman "I love you" and Elisabetta thinks she said something similar too. Then Ms Penniman started to walk fast in the middle of the crowd while she assured we were able to follow her till we arrived in front of some barries where there were some security guys. She told them to let us in and we were in the backstage...she told us to wait and to sit down to rest and then she went away. A kind girl offered us some water and we got more excited every second.
Elisabetta was shacking while her sister Eleonora couldn't stay still, her hands were shacking too and she wanted to smoke (fortunately wasn't allowed). After a little bit we saw Ms Penniman came back with her hands full of beverage like cola, sprite, orange and she asked us which one we preferred. She was so kind that we felt like home and not in a backstage of an international pop star...we continued to chat to try to calm down a bit.
Then he arrived, MIKA! He arrived with wet hair perfectly combed, a white shirt and a pair of jeans, he came toward me and I showed my hand to shake his hand asking him in italian "how are you?" instead he surprised me cause he hug me embracing me with his long arms (and is not easy cause of my weight) and he hug me hard leaning his face on mine, a long hug, the one you make to a friend you dont see since long time. Then he went near my daughters, he hug them and kissed them on the cheeks, really like an old friend you missed..he said we were changed since the last time, that the girl grew up expecially Elisabetta and, if I understand right, he noticed her hair was different...I told him I was wearing glasses and then I dont remember why we started to talk about my birthday (few days ahead) and that I would be 55 yo. From my facial expression he understood I wasn't very happy, he laughed and he asked me if it was "good" or "bad" and I told him disconsolate "bad" and instead he told me that it was "good" cause I was in a good shape and it was a good thing..I told him that he had some credits for that cause he made me feel younger and I told him that the only one who wasn't happy was my husband cause he usually spends so much to pay our trips to the gigs...the atmosphere was really serene and almost friendly but while he was speaking with us his glance was toward Elisabetta that still sat on her chair very excited...
Eleonora finally remembered to show him her tattoes, the one she has in the back of her neck which is a lollipop girl (she waited 4 years to show it to Mika but she always forgot) and the new one on her foot which has flowers and the "we are golden" phrase (one tattoo for each album). Mika watched them then my daughter asked him to give her an idea for a new draw about the next album. He said no, he couldnt, he said the last album is really "cerebral", complicated (and in the mid time he was waving hands around his head) and that he needed to listen to it very much, to absorbe it before take decisions then he turned to Miquette to ask her to translate (the funny thing is that I spoke in italian and he spoke in english but he understands italian better than I've imagined). Finally his interest was all about Elisabetta and he asked me if she was completely blind or if she was able to see something...I replied that she can see only shadows, then he asked me if she was born like that or she became blind..I replied she was born completely normal but when she was 10 we discovered se had a degenerative genetic illness we didnt know to have and is called "Retinitis pigmentosa" I said that unfortunately there's no cure for it. He seemed very interested and he add few comments like he knew about this thing. He asked if she had any memory about what she saw during her childhood, I replied that yes, she remembers everything and she is a strong girl, she goes to the university, she's studing psychology and she's doing right...I dont know if I understood it well but he said that today those people are able to do normal things like us and then he said to Elisabetta that he was sure she was strong and she had to be even more, that was clear she was ok, that she was more beautiful...Miquette who was seated next to her was holding her hand cause she was shacking for this big emotion.
Then was autographs' time..my daughters had 2 copies of Elle Me Dit single, to Eleonora he wrote a message regarding her tattoes (I dont remember what he wrote), to Elisabetta instead he wrote a dedication with a normal pen, he pushed very hard to make her able to read the words touching the lines with her fingers (he did the same in Codroipo on 2010) and he wrote
“ Elisabetha you seem so well. Its a pleasure to see you again. Be brave, always. Love and respect Mika X”
Loved reading your report Maurizia, it was so sweet:wub2: Feel so happy for you and your daughters, especially for Elisabetta! Needless to say of course Mika is such a kind person!!
Some years ago (you know before 2007) I used to agree with what Miquette said about wanting to know only about the artist but when it comes to Mika it's always really heartwarming to know about the person behind the music too.
I published my column traslated in English about the listening session on my blog... sorry but no report of the gig because my editor thought that was more important it. Here's the link:http://chocolateandchilipepper.blogspot.it/2012/08/life-in-musical-note-english-version.html
Hope you'll like it!!
You wrote a very cool article, thanks for sharing Lucrezia:thumb_yello:

Enjoyed reading everyone's report so much, thanks for posting you guys! And thanks for the pics and vids too:flowers2:
It's obvious from the vids that the Portuguese audience is so enthusiastic, no wonder why he loves performing there:wub2:
Mika was concerned about the fans going to La Coruna gig as the planes prices were so high but then he talked about getting a bus to everyone who wanted to join in a common place, easily available to everyone...The spaniards were :jaw:...
that is so sweet:wub2:

Finally managed to read this thread. Thank you so much everyone for sharing your pics, vids etc. It definitely must have been a special gig:wub2:
