  1. But that's great news for Brazilians. Why is the record company surprised that people know his songs? Surely some of them must have bought the songs.

    Not me. :mf_rosetinted:

Yessssssssssssssssss, happy can't even describe it. But, Mika, please, give me time to recover from this year's madne$$. :naughty:

Oh, by the way, let me add that it's Milton Nascimento, and not Milton Nascimiento. And it's Mariza, not Marizia. :aah:

  2. Me too...it was fantastic! I loved it for so many reasons, but especially that he completely opened up and said what this song was about

Really knackered but quickly, It was fantastic. Really great. And he could have not been any more explicit. Went on about how this song was about himself, his story, the church, being proud of who he is even if he is in love with...a man. He even made a little pause for effect there. Then he said that this song is his statement. And dedicated to the man he loves.

So yeah, pretty darn clear. It must be on video. Anyway,it reminded me of the old Mika and I really enjoyed it. Small place, relaxed vibe and no gimmicks. Will post more tomorrow

He couldn't have done it better, it seems... :thumb_yello:

It's like he had it all planned since ever, just waiting to be thrown at us all. :naughty::wub2:

  3. This is brilliant.

MIKA is an indie/pop contradiction understood by only his most addicted fans the world over. Too bubblegum in his singles for the East Village hipsters, too intellectual in his symphonic arrangements for the Midwestern tweeners, and perhaps just a touch too flaymboyant to be fully understood by the largely conservative American audience, MIKA fits best with people who, like their idol, don’t fit into a niche.

  4. I always feel so stupid when he so brilliantly talks. :aah:

And he mentions Beirut!! Aaaaaaaw, I love them since they were part of a Brazilian series soundtrack. :wub2:

omg that last "song" made me insane!! :aah: ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah...

I remember when this song was #1 :wink2:

:lmfao: That's very crazy indeed, but also brilliant! I haven't heard of her before and simply loved this song. :thumb_yello:

She makes me think of a Brazilian singer called Rita Lee. They have quite different styles and maybe it's me, but their voices sound very similar.

I couldn't understand the criticism of Make You Happy - saying he was jumping on the bandwagon to try to get in the charts or that it's autotuned. These vocoded vocals have been used for decades and it's different from that "Cher effect" autotuning that's been so abused the past few years. I think as long as it's used sparingly it can be very effective.

    EXACTLY.

  5. he sings something with tʃ sound and that is pretty uncommon in Latin, I think, if existing at all. Can anyone confirm it?

PS: also, I still totally hear padre and madre. :roftl:

Yes, that's what made me think it was "machismo" in the first place, but then considering it... only Portuguese (and maybe especially Brazilian people) speakers can confirm what I say, but e-v-e-r-y t-i-m-e I hear an English speaker speaking Portuguese, "T" sounds like txxxxxxxxxx. :aah: It's like saying "batxismo" instead of "batismo". :teehee: We actually do that a little as well, but it doesn't sound so "strong" (can't find a proper word here), and it seems that when an English speaker tries to learn words like these, they try to reproduce the sound we make but it doesn't work. :naughty:

For me, the missing words are these :

    Patre deus, deus baptismo

    Patre deus, deus baptismo

    In ordre mater, deus baptismo

    In excelso santo spirito

    I'm with you. :thumb_yello:
