Errrrr..... How on EARTH did this go from a private gig to money that's not even ours to talk about?

I think this entire THREAD has lost the plot.

I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, if people are upset, but wanted to point out that I think you hit the nail on the head with the 'connection' theme. It's all about the connection.

 

There's a big difference between iMMa and Mika though, and that is, that iMMa wants (and seeks) that connection with the fans, and Mika clearly doesn't. He has been disconnected for the longest time now, work or no work.

 

Now though, and before the "he can do whatever the heck he wants" brigade try to jump down my throat, note that I have only pointed out the fact that he doesn't want the connection. I didn't cast judgement on it.

Of course he wants the connection! Why else would he let fans be such vital parts of his shows?

But... as an introvert, I can understand what's happening...

Celebs are human too, and with TONS of people willing to give you attention for nearly everything you do (and some things you don't, and things you would never WANT to do), I'd want some "friends, family, and strangers only" time too. Plus private gigs get him extra money. Some of that can go towards making the music even better than it already is.

He's making music for us. I don't think we should want any more than that.

To be honest, I couldn't think of their songs when I heard this news in the morning but I do remember having heard their name (so good choice for a name ) and when I quickly listened to some of their stuff, "Gives You Hell" was the only song and video that sounded familiar. However, it only means that they are not popular over here and I tend to switch satellite music channels or not really listen when this type of music is played. (It is only personal though, not much to do with the bands themselves. I find it slightly irritating how bands like Weezer, GreenDay and others whose names I don't even remember are defined as 'punk' or 'alternative rock' when they play very simple pop melodies with annoying chord changes and don't even bother much with instruments... Although compared to Ke$ha, they are pretty alternative, especially the looks ). They just remind me that rock music is dead

 

 

 

yes, they do seem to have a 'cool' /'outsider' image Mika would like to have, I suppose.

 

 

In terms of the music, AAR might be in the US 'rock'() scene what Mika is in the pop one in Europe - slightly alternative and innovative vs current trends.

So good choice for a backing singer but not a surprising one since Greg is producing their new album.

Please don't say Green Day don't bother with instruments. That's so untrue it hurts. All 3 of the members play their own instruments. Guitar, bass, drums... Billy Joe plays the guitar, keybard, and sings all in one song at times!

Also...

Pop music has it's own special melodies? And how are chord changes annoying? I'm lost.

Rock music is very much alive - just not on most radios.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw/read it. I might be totally wrong about this, but a big part of me believes that this was never a competition, that they already had the design.

there is one interview I've been looking for... I saw it like, once... I think it was in December, after Mika hurt his foot, they were talking about that, and they gave him some uhm... some wine, I think? and they taught him some words in another language... yeah. That's all I remember. Does it ring a bell?

Also, I think they were talking about cartoon characters for a while and Mika styled his hair up in a weird way and everyone was like, laughing...

Well, They're sorta closely related too... so like... technically in the groups, like 4 things. maybe. Also, people tend to draw eyes when they don't know what else to draw. So...
