Well, the UK entry has been chosen, it's Michael Rice's performance of the song I liked, Bigger Than Us.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06ysvkh

Can't see it doing much in the competition though  :dunno:

I didn't like this one:no:. I was hoping Kerrie-Anne would win but I wouldn't have been annoyed if Jordan won. It''s a dull cliche song and I agree I don't think it will do well, will probably be the same place as Storms from last year

  2. I received the box-set of this album for my birthday in November with the 4 pictures and the signed picture is now framed on my wall! I listened to the deluxe version of this album for the first time around Christmas time, but I felt I needed more time with this one as it is different to his other albums (it is more personal)

The first song is Talk About You, I think this is a great start to the album, it is a happy and uplifting song although the chorus can get a bit repetitive, I think it works well that way. This song was released in the UK as a single and he performed it on the one show.

All She Wants is interesting and this one got stuck in my head first! The meaning of this song is quite interesting!

Last Party, is in my opinion not his best ballad. I do really like the Sinfonia Pop version though.

Good Guys confused me at first, I had to check the forums and realised it was about Mika’s role models. I like the instrumental but I don’t really like the girls voice. The night time remix is as good too.

Oh Girl You’re The Devil reminds me of Jackson 5’s ABC especially during the chorus, did anyone else think this? At first I didn’t like this song because of the deep voice (that is Mika’s voice right?🤔) but after a few more listens I realised it does work so I do like this one!

No Place In Heaven, the title track wouldn’t sound out of place on one of his earlier albums (TBWKTM). The song is ok but it doesn’t stand out for me.

I really like Staring At The Sun, I think I will listen to this song a lot especially in the summer! I really like the music video too. There is a French version which is also nice.

Hurts is too slow for me. I like the remix version better as I’m not a big fan of slow songs. I think lyrically it’s the best song on the album!

It isn’t a Mika album without a song with a story and Good Wife is that song! It reminds me a bit of Billy Brown, its decent but not my favourite.

I think Rio is the most unique song on the album, it’s not repetitive and the lyrics are quite funny (“I’ll roll 13 on a pair of dice”) I’m assuming he’s making fun of himself! 🤣

Ordinary Man is the best ballad on the album for me. I think it’s the most personal song on the album.

The first deluxe song is Promiseland, I liked this from the first listen. The lyrics are interesting, reading the forums it seems like it’s about the music industry? I was also surprised to find live performances of this song on YouTube as Mika doesn’t seem to like performing deluxe tracks.

Porcelain is dreamy sounding, it’s not my favourite and I don’t think it has replay value like the other songs on the album.

L’amour Fait Ce Qu’il Veut is the last song on the deluxe album and I like it, it’s groovy, my favourite non-English Mika song at the moment.

For some of the special edition tracks there’s Boum Boum Boum, his most popular song from this album. The music video is really great, the production is very high quality. I don’t understand anything in Je Chante but the video is very memorable and unique! Beautiful Disaster is good, I’ve only heard it once so far so I can’t say much but I prefer this version then the one with Fedez. Lastly Feels Like Love is nice as well. I actually don’t own the special edition yet, it is quite hard to find for a decent price!

I think maybe listening to Mika’s entire discography over the course of like 4 months made it more difficult for me to give my thoughts on this album, I think I will appreciate this album more as I listen to it more throughout this year and I know Mika is also recording a new album now as he posts videos on his Instagram stories! 🤩

So overall with all 4 Mika albums out now I think the consensus within this forum is that this album is the most liked and The Origin Of Love seems be the most disliked. At this point I can’t rank them 1-4, none of the albums are bad at all, each one has really good songs but I think Life In Cartoon Motion will always be my number one for nostalgia but I think No Place In Heaven gets better every time I listen to it!

It’s hard to do a Top 5 when there’s more than 20 songs part of this album as a whole but for now I would say it is: Staring At The Sun, Talk About You, Promiseland, All She Wants and Oh Girl You’re The Devil.

I would love to know what your favourite songs are and what you think of it now, almost 4 years later, is it Mika’s best album, so far?

Also I won’t do another one of these first thoughts as I’ve caught up with all of Mika’s music like the rest of you now, so next time a Mika album releases I will discuss it on the same discussion page as everyone else! 😊

I love Eurovision but Turkey won't enter. Last years we were but not this year. The reason is so absurd, there is one guy, who entered last year, he wore a skirt and he cannot choose his gender so my lovely TV boss says this is so bad for children. Everybody wants but... anyway, good luck other countries! :yay:

This is really upsetting to hear that people still have these views in 2019!

I also found this article http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/turkey-to-return-eurovision-if-no-more-bearded-divas-135427

Which basically says what you have said and also said the TV boss doesn't like the 2014 winner Conchita Wurst for their appearance.

  4. Yay I loved Eurovision last year! I am looking forward to it this year aswell. I've heard all 6 songs from the UK and they are OK but not winning material! My favourites are Sweet Lies by Kerrie-Anne & Bigger Than Us by Holly Tandy. I am looking forward to watching the live performances on "You Decide" on Friday! Do you have a favourite of the 6 silver?

  5. Hi Rocío, welcome to the MFC! Your story is basically the same as mine, I knew Mika since the beginning too but only his classic hits from early in his career. I joined a month ago and now I am listening to his newer songs but I haven't listened to any of the songs from No Place In Heaven yet as I'm becoming more familiar with the Origin Of Love album first! :)  Your English seems fine to me and the forum becomes easy to use after using for a week or so! Enjoy all the content on here!  :bye:

  6. Welcome Karine 🤗

My favourite Mika song is Relax.

You've come to the right place as a Mika fan as there is plenty of content on here to keep you informed about all his work!

Enjoy and see you around :bye:

My favourite tracks are Stardust, Make You Happy and Popular Song.  I disliked Make You Happy when I first heard it, I couldn't see why he would use  a vocoder when he has such a beautiful voice.  But I realised why he used this effect, and I could see how it fitted into the song, and now I love it.

Heroes is best in the symphonic version (Gemz still has this to look forward to :naughty: )

At the moment Make You Happy is probably my least favorite Mika song but maybe I'll grow to like it like you did!

And I'm very much looking forward to listening to the symphonic album,

Is it better to get the Sinfonia Pop DVD with the two CD's or the No Place In Heaven Special Edition with the "Et L'Orchestre Symphonique De Montreal" disc? or both? 🤔

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. The first time I heard TOOL was in Milan when Mika played it to 30 lucky fans who won a secret prelistening and that´s why this album will have a special place in my heart forever. The first time I listened to the album at home I was overwhelmed but later I realised that I don´t like Make You Happy and Celebrate that much on the album, I think both songs are much better live. Kids is a song for me which I listen to and forget about it again as soon as it´s over. Tah Dah is really good and should have had a place on the album. Overrated is a different song from the demo for me, it has nothing to do with the song 2007, not the mellody and not lyricly.

And here is the thread where you can read our reactions at that time when the album came out

If you look back a few pages here in this section you can find discussions to every single song he ever released 😉

Thanks for posting this fan review thread Sabine! 😏

I have spent the past few hours reading through the whole thread and it is so nice to see so many different reactions, it seems everyone has there own favorites! I'm sure they will all change within time. I'm looking forward to reading the other discussions and also will search up threads for the reviews of Mika's other albums to see what people thought. 🧐

  9. Hey everyone!

Since the first post I wrote on here just over a month ago I have been spoiled with Mika content to explore and what a wonderful time I am having! 🤩

I appreciate all the comments on the post, they made me feel very welcome 🤗

Some of you guys wanted to know my thoughts on his newer albums, well they are new to me!

So over the past few days I have been listening to The Origin Of Love album and you guys were right when you said it has a different sound but still captured Mika's style.

So the first song on the album is Origin Of Love. I like the uniqueness of this song however I would have preferred less effects on the vocals. I really the like the instrumental on this track.

Lola is next and I really like this song, it is very chill and a happy sounding song, probably one of my favorites on the album at the moment.

Stardust is a nice song, it sounds like it should be a song in the film Wreck It Ralph, does anyone else think this?  There is a brilliant remix of this song on the deluxe disc of the album also.

Make You Happy isn't my cup of tea to be honest, but I like the acoustic version on the deluxe disc.

Underwater, what a beautiful song. I already heard it from one of Mika's most recent performances and at first I thought he was gonna sing Set Fire To The Rain by Adele because the Piano sounds kinda similar at the start, definitely one of my favorites on the album.

Overrated, I heard a demo of this song from 2007 and I really liked it, this new version sounds like a club remix! I like this song but I prefer the acoustic sound of this song.

Kids, this song isn't one of my favorites, it's nice but I don't think it stands out on the album.

Love You When I'm Drunk, is a fun song, I really like the verses, the acoustic version is also great.

Step With Me, includes a unnamed female vocalist? It's a nice calm song but again not one of my favourites.

Popular Song, I was already familiar with the version he did with Ariana Grande and I never really liked that version. I actually like the one on the album better but it's weird hearing Mika rap.

Emily, I absolutely love this song, it is definitely my favorite on the album, and probably one of my favorite Mika songs at the moment. It actually made me cry 😭 because I can relate to the song even though my name isn't Emily. The french version Elle Me Dit is also nice, I might try to learn the words to improve my french.😄

Heroes, I really like the meaning of this song, I watched the track by track video with Mika talking about this song and apparently he was told not to include this song on the album, I'm glad he did because it is lyrically one of my favourites.

Celebrate, I do like this song, this song sounds like it should be on Wreck It Ralph aswell! I don't like the sound of the chorus so much but I really like the sound of the verses  and the last part of the song where he sings "I wanna go home" over the chorus. I don't like the remix of this song on the deluxe disc.

The last song I would say is Tah Dah which is on the deluxe disc, I'm confused because they could have just swapped the Make You Happy remix on the standard disc with Tah Dah.

I like the circus references, it is a solid song, perfect production. Has he performed it live? I can't find any videos on YouTube.

All the acoustic tracks on the deluxe discs are brilliant, I must admit I think Mika is the best acoustic performer I've ever heard, his voice just suits it so much and the fact that he plays the piano on the tracks aswell shows how talented he is.

Listening to this album was wonderful and has made me very excited for No Place In Heaven which I'll probably listen to next month as I'll get a copy for my birthday :D

I would love to know what you guys thought of the album when it came out and your favorite songs. I would say my Top 5 at the moment are Emily, Underwater, Tah Dah, Lola and Stardust.

  10. Hey everyone!

Since my introduction post I have been collecting some Mika things! (the best thing I have got so far is a promo CD for Blame It On The Girls🙌)

eBay has been the best choice for Mika stuff so far even though there isn't much on there!

Anyway I bought a Mika t-shirt which the seller said is official and "with tags" even though I don't think there is any tags!

The image on the shirt doesn't look in the best of quality :(

The shirt label is also from a brand "fruit of the loom" and I'm not sure Mika merchandise is made from this company...

So if any of you guys have a Mika t shirt like this one I have can you tell me if the one I have bought is official or a fake!

I have left some pictures of the shirt below still sealed in its packaging.

Gemma, you need to contact Sophie via eBay, I don't think she logs into MFC very often.

(Also, if on eBay you look at international items rather than just UK, you will find more Mika items for sale).

Apologies, I thought you were Sophie 😕 I will contact her when I can work out what I'm gonna buy! Yeah there is some stuff from international sellers but the postage costs seem quite high!

if you will buy No Place In Heaven look for the Repack of the album, there are all the newer French songs on it also all bonus songs and a second CD with Sinfonic Songs of his first Sinfonic concerts in Montreal. It´s the blue audition.

    This version? :)

@Gemz I forgot to tell you about TBWKTM deluxe edition. There are two CDs and the second one is Mika's live at Saddler's Wells recording :wub2:

Also maybe you could find information in our Mika encyclopedia (the link is in dcdeb's siggie) and also we have a thread with all Mika releases where you should find information as well.

Yes I have seen there is a 2 CD album with the live audio and also a bonus song on the first disk (Lover Boy) so I will be buying that for sure!

@Gemz when you listen to the two albums tell us which songs do you liked the most, to see if we agree on the taste. :wink2: NPIH has a true jewels.:wub2:

Will Do! I have heard a few from Origin Of Love as I watched his performance from "Finale Top14". I liked the sound of Emily (Elle Me Dit) but was different to his earlier stuff!

Hello Gemma :bye: and :welcomeani:to MFC .

Feel free to ask us anything about Mika :thumb_yello:

If you prefer not to use ebay for Mika merchandise, you have several options like opening a thread here, check fb Mika groups as once in a while some people sell parts of their Mika collection but you'll have to be patient, it doesn''t happen often. And as far as ebay you can set up Mika alerts through mail to make your search more efficient. Also there's a Mika fan who collects vinyls on instagram and maybe she could help you find We are Golden vinyl :dunno:

    https://www.instagram.com/cordellcullie/

Mika will release a new album and tour again in 2019. When the dates are known and official they will be in the Mika calendar here.

Mika live is a dream :swoon:

I hope you get to listen to The Origin of Love and No Place in Heaven soon...they are filled with treasures in my opinion :wub2:

I think this place will be more lively in 2019 with the new album, but in the meantime there are many threads you can read in MFC :wink2:

I think you should like this one

    Enjoy your time here :original:

Wow a tour and album in 2019! That is not far away at all! Now I can spend time waiting by listening to Mika's other albums and reading all the threads on here! Awesome :)

Hi and welcome to the MFC :bye:

I see lots of threads have already been suggested for you to look at :naughty:

If you're interested in Mika merchandise, you could also try this thread

And there will be the chance to win various items in the competitions we hold.

    Thanks Sophie!

I have actually seen your items on eBay and I may consider getting some of the stuff from you as your like the only person on eBay selling Mika merchandise!

Would it be possible if you did some deals with the items maybe with the CD singles?! I like the look of those fabric prints too but I feel they are probably too big to go on my wall!

  17. Hi Everyone!

I feel very late to the party on this Mika fan page as it doesn't seem very active at the moment! But anyway...

I have been a fan of Mika since he began in 2007, my parents got me his first album "Life In A Cartoon Motion" and this was the first album I had owned myself and I would listen to it all the time!

I was 7 years old at this point and I remember Mika being very popular here in England, all of his singles from his first album were hits. However I never heard about him after another successful hit of "We Are Golden". Since I was fairly young at the time I was moving on to other artists to listen to and didn't know he released more music as they did not do very well in the UK.

Now I am 18 years old and since I really dislike a lot of today's mainstream music I went through my music collection and found my Mika album and decided to do some research on him. I realized he hasn't stopped releasing music. I got nostalgia listening to his first album again, especially listening to my favorite Mika song at the moment "Relax Take It Easy". I recently got his second album which is similar in some ways to his first album, I really like "Rain" and I didn't even realise it was released in the UK! I know he has two more albums so I will listen to them too after I get more familiar with his second album.

Since I have a hobby of collecting CD singles, Vinyl Records and any other music merchandise from music artists I like, I am now excited to start collecting Mika merchandise from over the years. I really like the golden vinyl for his "We Are Golden" single. Please can you suggest any websites for this stuff, apart from eBay as they barely have anything, also Mika's shop doesn't work?! :(

I'm gutted that I haven't seen him on tour and I've seen a few live performances on YouTube and he sounds amazing live. But next time he does tour, I'm there!

It is unfortunate as it seems Mika is forgotten about in England and now he is only really popular in France, making him very underrated!

I hope I didn't ramble on too much, I have a lot of things I want to discuss about Mika so hopefully I can learn a lot from these forums!

    Thanks for reading,

    Gemma.
