Tbh I've heard all the songs and must admit I was totally underwhelmed by them.

Same.. I've been watching Eurovision for more than 10 years now, and every year there were (at least) 5-6 songs I cheered for.

Since 2020 (when covid happened and they didn't organize the contest for the very first time since 1956) something changed.

No more real talents show up, no one takes it seriously. Of course there are - very few - exceptions (this year I really love the Italian entry, Angelina Mango) who can sing, dance and are seriously talented. But now it's only about being strange, weird, sometimes off putting or disturbing even (see Ireland this year...). It literally became a joke contest :( I'm really sad.

I know some people claim that ESC is about being open and free, where you can be yourself and do anything you want, that is the essence of Eurovision. But in my humble opinion, no it really isn't ? Doing anything you want at a song contest is not the point. There were joke entries in past as well, but now those are the majority almost.. the others are really weak, basic radio friendly songs. I've been following this contest for so long, I witnessed this huge downgrade compared to the 2010s. Really disappointing.

I should also mention that the stage design is beautiful, the hosts are cute and very well dressed. The visual effects are getting better and better every year, so I really appreciate it, but the songs on the other hand... I really don't get it.

EDIT: I hope I didn't offend anyone, it's just my personal view of course, as a long time Eurovision fan.

Yess i saw, unfortunately Amsterdam is fully sold out, and there are about 1200 people who subscribed to the event on Ticketswap in hopes of scoring a ticket 😅. I wonder if they'll maybe upgrade the venue eventually or may book more nights, she's in the Melkweg but that's quite a small venue

Oh wow! I think a venue upgrade is possible, she's gaining popularity everywhere.

Performing at coachella is a huge thing for a small artist who's just starting out, so fingers crossed for her!

  3. Ohh finally some Chappell appreciation! I love her :lustslow: I became obsessed with her when she dropped her debut album, can't wait to hear more. Have you seen that she's coming to Europe soon? London, Paris, maybe Amsterdam if I remember correctly. She's an amazing performer. Every gig during her tour had its own theme, so everyone can get dressed up accordingly, so fun.

Pink Pony Club is my fav song

I hope I get the chance to see her on her next tour or something, right now I can't afford to travel to a Western country again (I did it for Mika, it was worth it ofc) :lol3:

There's nothing wrong with bringing up the subject of sex in a song and why shouldn't Mika go down this route with AC? He's said time and time again that he's sick of people telling him no, telling him that he can't be his true self. Now he his (although it did also come across in MNIMH) and with this song I actually find it empowering. Referring back to this line especially: "No matter what they think about the consequences, your booty is dancing", Mika doesn't give a damn about the consequences of people seeing that he's in a very umm shall we say fullfilling relationship :teehee:

People who know his background and who can relate to this in any way or form; regardless of sex or sexuality, will maybe also find the courage to be themselves and to take lightness in it. Because it is a light and easy melody. But shouldn’t this topic be light and easy? Yes we fight for our rights to be ourselves, but isn’t it the point to normalize who we are, so we don’t have to fight? And can just be? And just enjoy.

    You're absolutely right.

I'm a bit surprised how many people find this lyrics too explicit or even vulgar (but it's completely okay if you feel that way, no offense!), but I want to point out that today - in 2023 - there is nothing strange about explicit lyrics, even if it's about LGBTQ relationships. Oh and that's another thing about this song: it could be about ANYONE, ofc we know Mika and we know that it's about his own feelings and experiences but you can interpret it any way you want. Correct me if I'm wrong but I see no indication of gender in these lyrics, it says WE and there is no sign of HE or HIM or anything.

I mean just look at the mainstream pop music of today, it's SO oversexualized in every way. I think it's just too much sometimes, for my taste. Look at Sam Smith, Kim Petras ... or Troye Sivan's most recent video where he's dressed up as a woman (and looks absolutely gorgeous btw). All LGBTQ artists, being very open about sexuality. And people love it.

Mika is not a mainstream artist and I think we all know he is much more than that :) but he can be open about this topic as well, while keeping his own personality and artistry. I think his songs about sex are always on spot, he is never vulgar. These lyrics are graphic (but not too much) I agree with @QueenBigFat and it conveys this feeling of burning desire very well. I'm pretty sure he had so much fun writing this song (and all the others on the album), it must be a freeing experience for him. But I still think there's nothing peculiar about AC, not even for a Mika song.

I hope I didn't offend anyone! I know, songs are a bit more fun when they leave something to the imagination, but this time I can deal with that :)

  5. I'm known as being very critical when it comes to music, but I have to say that melodically I like it much more than C'est la vie. I never have high expectations based on a title or anything, so maybe that's why I loved it at first listen :)

Personally I don't have a problem with explicit lyrics, Mika knows how to make it poetic at the same time.

It's not my favourite song but I really love it!

I agree, however, that it would be better if it was more upbeat. But overall it's very dreamlike and soft, the melody fits the lyrics well.

I was also hoping that the French songs would boost my vocabulary, well ... now I can surely talk about some "inapproriate" stuff :lmfao:

  6. The artwork is so beautiful, can't wait to hold it in my hands!

Can someone translate/explain this part please? I used Google translate but I just can't comprehend it.  I see the 3 stickers but what does the other stuff mean? :)

Yes, it's possible, I can't judge for sure if it's safer in big cities in Western Europe or Eastern Europe. 😅

I guess it also depends on our own personal experiences. I'm sure some characteristics of eastern cities might freak out western people and vice versa. It's up to our individual perceptions, what we consider safe or comfortable.

You can always take a taxi or Uber. And if it's not too far, you certainly won't be the only person walking to the hotel after the concert.

You're right. Thanks for reassuring me, I feel a bit better now about this trip :)

I was only in Brussels for one day this year, but only in the centre and I didn't notice anything dangerous.

From a feeling, I would say that though neighbourhoods are tougher in Eastern Europe. I can't say much about Brussels, but I lived in Paris for six months and there are also though neighbourhoods. At night you shouldn't necessarily walk around there alone (but I did) and nothing ever happens. During the day there shouldn't be any problems, I would say.

Thank you! Many people (and statistics) say eastern european capital cities are safer in general. But based on your experience in Paris I think it should be okay!

I'm sorry if my post sounded weird, that's me, worrying about getting back to a hotel 5 months from now :lmfao:

  9. Hey guys, I need some advice :(

does any of you live near Brussels?

So I already started making reservations, looking for accomodation etc.

I don't know why but this city gives me so much anxiety, I heard many bad stories about certain neighborhoods. Reading the news and hearing about the recent shootings does not help...

I'm from eastern europe, I'm used to tough places but ... I've never been to western countries I don't know much about the western understanding of a "tough neighborhood"

    Any recommendations?

Especially if you live in Brussels I would like to know what is the reality. Thank you so much!

He seems very accessible, but the truth is: he is not our friend, he is a popstar (poptart) and if it’s a controlled environment (barriers or security in place, or just simply people who will behave and not push and touch him), it is much more likely he will stay for a chat (if he doesn’t have other engagements or it not in the middle of the night). Prime example was in South Korea, when fans outside of the radio station would queue and stay in place. He came out and took his time for everyone. I think crowds should take an example to that.

    Very true!

I saw the videos too, it was so nice to see how civilised they were. And Mika certainly appreciates a well-behaved crowd.

I wouldn't be too sure about Berlin, because a lot of fans are travelling there, so it might be a much bigger crowd after the show in comparison to the size of the venue. Surely it depends on whether Mika feels like meeting fans, but it also depends on the size and the mood of the crowd, and if/how it is organized by security.

Both in Brussels and Berlin there were a lot of people waiting the last time he played there (Brussels 2019 and Berlin 2010). In Brussels he only stopped quickly and waved, but at that time he didn't come our to meet fans at all, so that was already much, compared to other gigs at the time. In Berlin 2010 he did meet fans, but he did after pretty much every gig until ca. 2012, so also that wasn't unusual. Security had organized the crowd with some kind of rope or barrier tape iirc, so everyone would stay in line.

Yes, it makes sense that keeping Mika and everyone safe is top priority. I hope everything will be well organized and people won't be so pushy and demanding, like those who keep touching and grabbing at him when he enters the crowd during shows. Sometimes I worry about him.

If I met him, or any other famous person I would definitely try to be as polite as possible and not to make a bad impression - even if they don't remember me at all, but still :lol3:

It doesn't necessarily depend on how big the venue is, but whether Mika feels like coming out that day or not. In Amsterdam and Berlin he will probably come out because he hasn't been there for so long. In Brussels he might come out and maybe not, as @mellody wrote, you can never be sure. :original:

    I see, thank you! :)

Let's hope for the best! Either way, seeing him live is more than enough to make me happy:lol:

It depends on which concert you are planning to go to? At some places there will be a higher chance that he will greet the fans and sign things after the concert. Where are you planning to go? :original:

    Brussels :)

I wouldn't consider it a huge venue, but definitely more people than in Tarvisio

You can never be sure. He does meet fans often, but definitely not every time. Especially not at Festivals. Even in Tarvisio we weren't sure if he'd stop, but we were very lucky there.

Yess I read your report, you were so lucky and he was such a sweetheart! It was a special gig for many reasons :lustslow:

  14. Hello :) it was so nice reading all your lovely stories!!

I'm still bummed I couldn't wait for him to come out after the Tarvisio gig :tears: it would have been such a great opportunity...

But only 5 months from now, we'll get the chance to see him again!! I'm asking everyone who usually stays after a concert: what are the odds of seeing him? I mean does he come out to greet fans or to sign things after almost every event (even if it's only a few minutes) or is it a rare occasion? Based on your stories, he does this most of the time, but I'm not sure :)

So, "experienced Mika fans", what do you think?

Hali!:) Sikerült venned jegyet a pre-salen? Látom az állójegyek elég hamar elfogytak
