I thought it'd be interesting to start a thread where we can post a few facts & maybe pictures too of where we're from so other mfcers can learn about all the various places they may never have heard of or seen

O.k so i shall start with where I'm from & where I moved back to a couple of years ago my birthplace kingston upon hull, U.k

The city of Kingston upon Hull’s Royal Charter was granted in 1299

With a total span of 2,220 metres, the Humber Bridge is one of the world’s longest single-span suspension bridges.

Hull is said to have been the place where the English Civil War started in 1642

William Wilberforce, slavery abolitionist and social reformer, was born in Hull

in 1759.

The Humber estuary is the busiest shipping region in the UK, with more than 40,000 vessel movements each year.

Kingston upon Hull (pronounced /ˌkɪŋstən əpɒn ˈhʌl/ or /ˌkɪŋkstən əpɒn ˈhʌl/ ( listen)), almost invariably referred to as Hull, is a city and unitary authority area in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England.[2] It is located 25 miles (40 km) from the North Sea on the River Hull at its junction with the Humber estuary.[2] Hull has a resident population of 257,000 (2007 est.). Renamed Kings town upon Hull by King Edward I in 1299, the town and city of Hull has served as market town,[3] military supply port,[4] trading hub,[5] fishing and whaling centre,[4] and industrial metropolis.[4] Hull was an early theatre of battle in the English Civil Wars.[5] Through its celebrated 18th century Member of Parliament, William Wilberforce, the city was the backdrop to events leading to the abolition of the slave trade in Britain.[6]

The city is unique in the United Kingdom in having had a municipally owned telephone system from 1902, sporting cream, not red, telephone boxes. After suffering heavy damage during the Second World War,[5] Hull weathered a period of post-industrial decline,[7] during which the city gained unfavourable results on measures of social deprivation, education and policing. However, the city has embarked on an extensive programme of economic regeneration and renewal.[8]

Culturally, Hull has been the base for several notable poets including Philip Larkin, many of whose poems were set in the city. A range of both classical and popular musical experiences is available, and the various museums offer a glimpse of the scope of Hull's history and development. These, along with a lively night life and popular arts festivals, attract visitors from a wide area.

Spectator sporting activities include professional football and two rugby league clubs. There are many amateur sports clubs located in the city offering a wide range of participatory opportunities.

The University of Hull and the Hull York Medical School are situated in the city. In keeping with the maritime history of Hull, the long established Hull Trinity House School offers training to mariners.

The local accent differs markedly in its vowel sounds from that in the rest of the Yorkshire region and the rhythm of speech bears a similarity to that of Lincolnshire to which it was linked in the defunct county of Humberside.

People from Hull are called "Hullensians" and the city has been the birthplace and home to many notable people. Among the most notable persons of historic significance with a connection to Hull are William Wilberforce who was instrumental in the abolition of slavery and Amy Johnson, aviator who was the first person to fly solo from England to Australia. Notable entertainers from the city include actor John Alderton and actress Maureen Lipman.

Playwrights Richard Bean, John Godber and Alan Plater have close connections with Hull.

Musicians include Paul Heaton of the Housemartins and The Beautiful South[ and guitarist Mick Ronson who worked with David Bowie.

Notable sportspeople include Clive Sullivan, rugby league player, who played for both of Hull's professional rugby league teams and was the first black Briton to captain any national representative team. The main A63 road into the city from the Humber Bridge is named after him (Clive Sullivan Way).

First, where I am now

MEXICO :wub2:

officially United States of Mexico is a democratic republic, representative and composed of 32 federal states which occupies the southern part of North America. Under the current Constitution, the seat of the powers of the federation is the Mexico City, whose territory has been designated as the Federal District.

Bounded on the north by the United States of America, the east by the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, southeast, with Belize and Guatemala, and west by the Pacific Ocean. Mexican surface covers an area of nearly 2 million km ², which is placed in the fourteenth position among countries of the world sorted by area. In this territory live more than 107 million people, which is the most populous Spanish-speaking nation. Furthermore, the Spanish living in Mexico with several indigenous languages are officially recognized as nationals by the Mexican State.

The settlement of this territory dates back possibly 12-14 thousand years into the past, although there is an unresolved scientific discussion with respect to the time when the first settlers arrived on the American continent, in the time that occurred in that same number of people, including both agricultural and Mesoamerican cultures of the nomadic peoples Aridoamérica and oasisamericanos. After the Spanish conquest, Mexico began its struggle for political independence in 1810. Thereafter, for nearly a century the country was involved in a series of internal wars and foreign invasions which had an impact in all spheres of life of Mexicans. For much of the twentieth century (mainly the first half) was a period of great economic growth in the context of a policy dominated by one political party.

For the net volume of gross domestic product (GDP), Mexico is considered the thirteenth world economy although in 2001 it was the ninth -. However, the distribution of wealth is so unequal that the country towns coexist with human development indices similar to those of nations such as Germany or Syria. For a good part of the twentieth century, the main source of foreign country was the sale of oil, although during this century was a process of industrialization enabled the country to diversify its economy. Remittances from Mexican workers abroad have been growing year by year, to represent 3% of GDP and a major source of foreign currency for the country, just next to the oil export revenues and tourism. [9] Another major social problem is the increasing rates of incidence of crime in the country,
