Después de vender más de 8 millones de discos en 32 países con sus dos trabajos anteriores, 'Life in Cartoon Motion' (2007) y 'The Boy Who Knew Too Much' (2009), 'The Origin of Love' es su nuevo disco. Tal y como ya hemos podido comprobar en su primer single, 'Celebrate', Mika regresa pletórico, deseando que todo el mundo baile con él.

 

1. Qué es lo que más te gusta? Componer, grabar o cantar en vivo? En dónde no has cantado aún y te gustaría cantar?

Son cosas diferentes. Doctor Jeckyll y Mr Hyde. No estoy muy seguro de quien es quien todavía. Me gustaría hacer un concierto en la Ópera Real de Londres, en el Museo de Historia Natural en Londres o en alguna de las galerías de El Prado en Madrid.

 

2. Enhorabuena por tu nuevo álbum, "The origin of love" . Tus otros dos discos, tanto "Life in cartoon motion", como "The boy who knew too much", eran, en mi opinión, más infantiles que éste último. Con la realización de este nuevo disco, ¿has madurado más como persona o como artista? Maribel,15 años, El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz).

Los dos. Porque soy la misma persona que soy como artista y el artista es la misma persona. Estoy de acuerdo contigo. Es menos infantil. Pero sigue estando lleno de fantasía.

 

3. ¿Cuáles son los mejores recuerdos que tienes con tus fans españoles? Ya sea en conciertos, Meet&Greet, etc. - LadyMeeks

Mis fans españoles viajan muy lejos para llegar a mis conciertos. Trato de salir a saludarles antes del concierto. Están siempre esperando para verme. No puedo explicar cuánto significa para mí.

 

4. ¿Nos puedes adelantar algún detalle sobre cómo será el tour de The Origin Of Love? ¿Harás algo parecido al Imaginarium Tour donde sacabas fans a bailar en los conciertos? Era genial! - Becks.

El show será completamente diferente. Cada vez que hago una gira me gusta empezar concentrado en la música, para poco a poco desarrollar ideas frescas para el escenario. Esto evita que me repita visualmente. Mi objetivo es llegar a un espectáculo tan rico y teatral como en los anteriores tours, pero tengo que empezar de nuevo y construir.

 

5. Después de 5 años de carrera, 2 discos de éxito y un tercero con el éxito en camino...¿de qué te sientes más orgulloso, ahora mismo? Queenie

No suelo sentirme orgulloso. Y si me si me siento así, dura media hora. El orgullo es como una cerveza barata. Es increíblemente adictiva y destructiva.

 

6. Hola, Mika!! A parte de la música, cuáles son tus principales hobbies?? A qué te gusta dedicar tu tiempo libre??? Encantada de hablar contigo, Eva

¿A quién le importa? ¿Realmente quieres saber que me gusta pasear con mi perro, cocinar una basura de comida?

 

7. Me encanta la extensa formación en todos los sentidos que posees, pero sobre todo la musical. ¿cómo lograban tus padres motivarte para que continuaras con la música? a mi se me acaban los recursos con mis hijos...que, por otra parte, se ponen a bailar tus canciones como " locos".

No tenía opción porque me echaron del colegio. Tuve una dura profesora rusa que me enseñó a cantar durante el tiempo que estuve sin ir al colegio, que fueron 10 meses. Conseguí trabajos muy rápidamente. Mi familia no tenía demasiado dinero y me dí cuenta que podía vivir haciendo algo que me hacía sentir como que valía algo.

 

8. Hola,conocemos estos tres discos de tu discografía, pero ¿tienes algun otro tema o disco que sea anterior? gracias

Sí, tengo muchas canciones que escribí antes, pero no llegaron a formar un mensaje completo, cosa que necesito para crear un álbum. Hice un funeral para esas canciones, rezamos, nos emborráchamos en la fiesta de entierro y tiramos para adelante.

 

9. ¡Hola! Bienvenido a España otra vez.Se que hablas muchos idiomas¿para cuando un single en español?¡Suerte con el nuevo disco!

Si encuentro a la persona correcta para escribir la letra quizá pueda darse el caso. Nunca diría que no. Encontrar al autor correcto es como encontrar una pareja, pero no solo para una noche.

 

10. Espectacular el tratamiento de los coros de la primera canción del disco, The origin of Love. ¿Idea suya o del productor?. JR

Creación mía totalmente. De hecho me dijeron que era una locura hacerlo. Tardé año y medio en terminar y perdí amigos por el camino.

 

11. 'The origin of love'... ¿Estás enamorado? ¿De qué? ¿De quién?

No es asunto tuyo.

 

12. ¿Se ha planteado alguna vez componer un musical para cine o teatro? Creo que sería realmente espectacular por la magia de sus canciones y su teatralidad.

Me encantaría hacer un espectáculo, pero tardaría al menos cinco años en hacerlo.

13. Disfrutaste el concierto que diste este verano en Coruña? porque fue estupendo y transmitiste mucha energia

Fue uno de los mejores momentos de mi carrera. No esperaba tanta gente cantando mis canciones. Coincidió con que estaba intentando terminar este nuevo disco y esa energía, especialmente por su calidez, fue lo que necesitaba desesperadamente y uno de los motivos por los que estoy promocionando este disco ahora.

 

14. Me encantó tu primer album, el segundo no tanto. Antes de comprar este (soy de los que aún compran discos) escucharé el nuevo varias veces en Spotify por si acaso no me gusta. ¿Este nuevo disco se acerca mas al primero o al segundo?.

Al primero. En la intención y en la libertad.

 

15. Hola Mika! Me pareces un tío con una voz espectacular y me encanta tu música. Me gustaría saber que opinas sobre el panorama musical español. ¿ Conoces grupos o cantantes? Un saludo de parte de mi hija Vega que es tu mayor fan.

17. Hola, Mika, ¿cuantas veces has visitado España en tu vida? Pude verte en el concierto del Palacio de los Deportes en Madrid en el 2010, ojala pueda verte en concierto de nuevo, besos.

He venido muchas veces a España. Mi primer concierto fue en Ibiza, a las cinco de la mañana, en Manumission. Había diez personas desnudas, dos enanos, un camello y mi madre. Dos años después, hice el Bar M en Ibiza con un concierto que se agotó rápidamente y al equipo le shockeó que la audiencia era mayoritariamente española. Eso me hizo sonreír.

 

18. Hola...soy un seguidor tuyo que ya ha comprado este tercer disco y que te vió en concierto en Madrid hace ya un tiempo. ¿Haber salido del armario te ha supuesto alguna dificultad en tu carrera?

No. Para nada. Mi música es mi música. Yo soy mi música y nunca he pretendido ser otra cosa que lo que soy. No fue tan sorprendente para muchos de mis fans, pero para mí era importante decirlo en un momento de mi vida donde me siento feliz y tengo confianza. Lo hice en el momento adecuado para mí.

 

19. Tiene previsto hacer una gira por España? Gracias.

Sí. Vendré a Madrid y a Barcelona en noviembre.

 

20. Mika!! Admiro mucho tu obra y tu forma de componer!! Que consejo le darias a un joven músico, para seguir en este duro mundo de la música?

Hay muchas maneras de ser músico. Que no le engañe lo que parece ser un éxito inmediato a través de los programas de televisión, muchas veces no es real, es una ilusión. No pasa nada por estar esperando para cuando llegue la oportunidad y el momento aprovecharlo, estando seguro de que estás preparado. Tiene que darse cuenta de que siempre tendrá más fracasos que éxitos. El éxito nunca llega sin fracasos. No pasa nada. Reconoce tus limitaciones y si sabes que hay gente con más talento que tú asegúrate que ganas en originalidad.

 

Despedida

Tengo que irme corriendo para ir hacer el ensayo para un programa de televisión. Mi disco ha salido a la venta hoy en España. Si lo compras ahora, estará calentito todavía por el horno y sabe mucho más delicioso. Jajjajaaja. El disco lo hice con mucho amor y mucha libertad y aún más locura.

After selling more than 8 million records in 32 countries with his other two albums, LICM (2007) and TBWKTM (2009), TOOL is his new LP. As we could see on his first single, “Celebrate”, Mika comes back plethoric, wanting everyone to dance with him.

 

1. What do you like most, writing song, recording or singing live? Where haven’t you sang yet and what would you like to sing? (don’t know if it makes sense XD)

Those are different thing. Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. I’m not really sure who’s who yet. I would like to play at the London Royal Opera, at the Natural History Museum in London or in El Prado Museum ( a Madrid one)

2. Congratulations for your new album, TOOL, the other two LICM and TBWKTM were more childish, IMO. Making this new record, made you grown up more as an musician or as a person? Maribel 15 years old, El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz

The two of them. Because I am the same person as an artist that I am as a persona (???) I agree with you , is less childish, but it’s still full of fantasy.

3. Which are the best memories you have from your Spanish fans? In concerts, M&G, etc – Lady Meeks

 

My Spanish fans travel from very far away to see me play live. I try to greet them before the gig. They are always waiting to see me. I can’t explain how much it means to me. ( <3 )

 

4. Can you give us sneak peek of how will TOOL tour be? Will you do something as in the Imaginarium tour where you took some of your fans to dance on stage? It was great!! – Becks

 

The show will be completely different. Everytime I do a Tour I like to start concentrate on music, to slowly develop fresh ideas for the stage. This prevents me to not repeat the effects. My objective is to make this show as rich and stagy as the others, but I have to start from the beginning and build it.

 

5. After 5 years on your career, 2 successful albums, and a third on the way to success, what do you feel more proud of? - Queenie

 

I don’t use to feel proud. And if I do it lasts just hafl-an-hour. Pride (I thing he means feel proud of) is like a cheap beer. It’s incredibly addictive and destructive.

 

6. Hi Mika!! Besides music, which are your hobbies? How do you spend our spare time? Nice to talk to you – Eva

Who cares??!! Do you really wanna know that I like to walk my dog, cook yunk food??!! (or a rubbish food, don’t know if he speaks of how bad he cooks XD)

 

7. I love how you’re trained ( like educated, that he knows a lot about) in all senses, specially musically. How did your parents do to keep you motivated in music? I had run off my resources with my children, that, otherwise, they like to dance like crazy with your songs ( I HATE THIS QUESTION XD IT’S TOO COMPLICATED, sorry if there’s any on you who made it, but OMG LOL)

 

I had no option because I was expelled from school. I had a very hard Russian teacher who taught me to sing while I wasn’t at school, for 10 months. I got jobs very quickly. My family didn’t had much money and I realized that I could live doing something that made me feel I worth something.

 

8. Hi, we know this three albums from your discography but, do you have any other song or record previous to those?

Yes, I do have others songs I wrote before, but they didn’t become completed to make sense, thing that I need to make an album. I made a burial for those songs, we prayed, got drunk at the after bural party and go on with our lives.

 

9. Hi, welcome to Spain again. I know you can speak a lot of languages, when a single in Spanish? Good luck with your new album.

If I found the right person to write It, there’s a chance. I’ll never say never. Find the right song writer is like finding a partner, but not only for one night (naughty)

10. Amazing the choirs in the first song TOOL, it was your idea or the producer? JR

My own creation. In fact they told me it was crazy. It took me a year and a half to finish it. And I had lost friends in the process.

 

11. The Origin of love, are you in love? Of what? whom?

12. Do you ever thought about writing a musical for a film or theatre? I think it would be spectacular for the magic of your songs and your sense of the theatre

I would love to make a show, but it will took me at least 5 years to do it

13. Did you enjoy your show at La Coruña this summer? Because it was amazing and you transmited a lot of energy

It was one of the greatest moments on my career. I didn’t expected that bunch of people singing my songs. It was at the same time that I was finishing the album and that energy, especially for its warmth, it was what I needed desperately and one of the reasons why I am promoting this album now.

 

14. I loved your first album, the second not very much. Before I’ll buy this one ( I am one of those who still buy records) I will listen to it on Spotify in case I don’t like it. This album is closer from the first one or the second?

To the first one. In intentionality and freedom.

17. Hi Mika. How many times have you been in Spain in your life? I was at your gig in El Palacio de Deportes, Madrid, in 2010. I wish I could see you again live. Kisses

I had come a lot to Spain. My first concert was in Ibiza, at 5 in the morning, in Manumission. There were 10 people naked, 2 dwarfs, a dealer (I think he means the one who sales drugs, not a real camel) and my mother. Two years later, I did one at the Bar M in Ibiza, where we sold out and my team was surprised that the audience was Spanish mostly. That made me laugh.

18. Hi… I am a fan who have bought this third album and I saw you at a gig in Madrid a while ago. To come out of the closet have been bad for your career?

No, not at all. My music is my music. I am my music and I have never pretended to be something different of what I am. It wasn’t a surprise for most of my fans, but it was important for me to do it in a time of my life when I feel happy and I have confidence. I did it in the right time for me.

 

19. Do you have planned a Spanish tour? Thank you.

Yes, I will be in Madrid and Barcelona in November

 

20. Mika!! I admire your work and the way you compose!! What advice you will give to a young musician to go on in this hard world of music?

There are lots of ways to be a musician. Don’t get blind for what it can be a fast success from tv shows, sometimes is unreal, an illusion. It’s alright to be waiting till you have your chance and enjoy that moment, knowing you are prepared. He has to realize that he will have more fails than success. Success doesn’t come without fails. It’s alright, you have to recognize your limitations and if you know there are people more talented than you try to win in originality.

I have to go quickly to the rehearsal of a tv show. My album is out now in Spain. If you buy it now it will be hot, it has just came out of the oven, and it will taste delicious. Hahahahaha. I made this record with a lot of love, very freely and even more madness
