meimei88
Pop preview John Robinson Saturday February 17, 2007 The Guardian Mika On tour He's not a one for half measures, Mika. From often tipped prospect to bona fide chart success, the 23-year-old has bounded into the public eye with the same kind of impact, if not the near universal acclaim, that the Arctic Monkeys managed at the start of last year. As with his successes, so with his music: having taken on some of the compositional flourishes of Rufus Wainwright, and injected a rather overpowering degree of self confidence into piano based songs like his Grace Kelly hit, this was never going to be an act it would be easy to sit on the fence about. Some listeners are reminded of Freddie Mercury. Others are irresistibly drawn to think of small dogs in designer jackets or, maybe, more instructively, an image of Dame Barbara Cartland, gorging fatally on a stack of sugary pink cakes.
