Mika
On tour
He's not a one for half measures, Mika. From often tipped prospect to bona fide chart success, the 23-year-old has bounded into the public eye with the same kind of impact, if not the near universal acclaim, that the Arctic Monkeys managed at the start of last year. As with his successes, so with his music: having taken on some of the compositional flourishes of Rufus Wainwright, and injected a rather overpowering degree of self confidence into piano based songs like his Grace Kelly hit, this was never going to be an act it would be easy to sit on the fence about. Some listeners are reminded of Freddie Mercury. Others are irresistibly drawn to think of small dogs in designer jackets or, maybe, more instructively, an image of Dame Barbara Cartland, gorging fatally on a stack of sugary pink cakes.

Cool - this story has been published in the Canberra Times in Oz today, I don't have a link I'm afraid, but the article the same as "Introducing the sound of 2007:Mika. The man, the myth, the music"
A few changes - Article title - "Mika, the hit man - FEATURE STORY" and the last paragraph changed at the end.
In a roundabout way, with "Grace Kelly" and "Life in Cartoon Motion" sitting pretty at number one in their respective charts, there could hardly be a greater endorsement.
Mika hitting the news on the other side of the world!!! Yay!

I'm going to wait to listen to it later from the BBC website. So thanks for letting me know when he is on!! I can let the webcast go on for about an hour without having to listen to the whole thing!
I'll also record the bits we want later on.

Lily Allen Loves To Sing Peer's Praises
Or, Disinterest With A Schmear of Boredom
Fri, Feb 16, 2007
What perfect timing! John Polly over at the Logo-backed (and, really, what isn't?) just sent us the link to his interview with Lily Allen, the British popster we referenced in that last post and one of the top ten girls we'd bone. (We bet she's a really tiger in bed.)
JP: A new artist who gay audiences here are freaking out about is Mika. Are you familiar with him?
LA: Um, wait one second... [Lily talks to someone in the background for a minute. I hear, “Have they got cream cheese? Yeah, I’ll have that... Cinnamon.†The she laughs, and comes back.] Sorry, we’re getting a bagel order here. So what was the question?
JP: Mika is getting popular here, and I know he’s massive in the U.K. right now. Do you have an opinion about him?
LA: I haven’t heard much of his stuff. I’ve only heard the one song that’s on the radio in the U.K., which is called “Grace Kelly.†I like that; I think it’s all right.
*********************************************************
Not that we care what Lily Allen thinks.. but she was a bit mean to Corrine Bailey Rae amongst others at the Brits this week!!

By Tina Calder
Wacky singer Mika is set to play in Northern Ireland this year.
The star, who's debut single, Grace Kelly, and album, Life In Cartoon Motion, shot to number one in the charts this month, announced his first UK tour dates for London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Leeds.
But a source at the 23-year-old's record company has revealed that gigs are to be announced in Ireland, both north and south, in the near future. The insider added: "Mika has a huge autumn tour planned for this year and it will come as no surprise that we intend to travel to Ireland and Northern Ireland for this.
"We have only announced a few dates for a small tour in May but we fully intend to extend this throughout the year."
Meanwhile, Mika is currently celebrating hitting the 100,000 sales mark this week and selling out a small tour throughout the UK this month. He says it's bitter-sweet revenge on the record companies who turned him down all these years for being "too weird".
"There was one record company I went into a meeting with and they then spent an hour telling me that I had to write songs that were just like everyone else" he said, adding: "So I went home and wrote Grace Kelly and a little 'stick you' song, I recorded it, typed up the lyrics and sent it to them and they never called me back".
