  1.

I've been discussing a lot of issues with Americans for many years and I've also learned that it's extremely difficult to broach or get in depth on certain topics. I'm speaking generally of course and not about every individual. But we're not having a one-on-one discussion here, we're talking as a group.

Generally speaking Americans have some values that differ greatly with Canadians and western Europeans. Many of us are not raised with the same religious influences that pervades everything from your political opinions to views on sex.

These are all touchy subjects and in my experience people can get extremely defensive about their beliefs and don't like to be challenged on them. Since most people hold such strong beliefs because that's what they've been taught by their parents, church and state their entire lives, it's often pointless to debate about it because they're not going to change their minds based on any rational argument.

I'm not sure whether it is nationality or just age, but I am concerned at how black and white many people view things (and sorry to tar all americans, but I can tell as I read each post whether or not it is written by an american even without looking to the left of the screen). I sincerely hope that as you have more life experiences that many of you will start to see that things are actually very grey. However, I also pray that none of you ever personally have to deal with some of the more traumatic life events and decisions that you have described in such a clear cut and matter of fact way.

I think I know what your responses will be, but I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on Guantanamo Bay ...

  2. Problem is in Doncaster the girls behind us also had flashing hearts. I saw them and asked "Heya, are you MFC?" and they said they were not looking at me as if I was totally retarded :) So I don't know how they had the hearts and all, but they did!

In that case definitely needs to be flashing heart and badge

The logo thingie was quite easy to make. :thumb_yello:

Easy is good ... but that still doesn't tell me how??? I'm a bit thick when it comes to anything technical :wink2:

  3. Mmm to get back to the topic... isn't there an recognizable accessory we could all wear in the queue? I mean... for the winter gigs a MFC flashy (or not that flashy) scarf could do the trick and at least we wouldn't get that sick after the gigs ;)

But of course it all depends on the price...

A lot of people have the flashing hearts.

However it does take a lot of courage to go up to a large group of people - even though you know that they are from here and that they will be really friendly. I did it at Birmingham last time and at Somerset House and got a good reception ... this time I was feeling a bit under the weather and so didn't approach people. However I did have my flashing heart on (and I made mum wear one too!) and although some MFCers walked past us, no one approached me. It would be nice if sometimes things were a bit two way.

The badge idea is really good. Especially because I am hopeless with names, and if you do approach the large group you are given a load of names in one hit, which you then can't remember! Would someone tell me how to do my name in the MFC letters and then I wear that on the 4th as well as my flashing heart :thumb_yello: Hopefully I will be feeling a bit better next week and will have the confidence back to approach people again!

  4. I'm so so excited about this one. Had just got tickets to Brixton on the 4th, and now will be seeing him on the 5th too. I still can't believe it :biggrin2:.

The only thing is I'm worried about what time we will need to queue from to get in. My other half has a hospital appointment late afternoon (which is the reason we are in London those days anyway) and usually we don't get out until late!

  5. When we went to a gig at the Apollo last month we parked on a residential street off Fulham Palace Road. Just checked multimap, I think it was Chancellors Road, but the streets round there were all free to park with no restrictions evenings and weekends.

    Hope that helps.

    I also have a parking request ...

We're coming up to London for a gig (not Mika) at Water Rats near Kings Cross tomorrow. We are coming down the M1 so are thinking of parking at Finchley and coming in rest of way by tube, but is there anywhere near Kings Cross that would be easy (and cheaper) to park?

  6. I bought two Russell Brand biographies. I was determined to get the Booky Wook, but I got one more. Russell is my fiance, but he doesn't tell me anything, so I have to read about him from books.

Back to Mika. That darn Russell is distracting me.

    :roftl: :roftl: :roftl: :roftl:

Excellent write up Nicole - glad you both had a great time and managed to get tickets for the second night.

But, sadly you are deluded about Russell ...

he can't be your fiance, cos he is promised to me :wub2: :wub2: :wink2:

  7. does anyone can remember what was the upstairs like, the balcony area- Mum doesnt like the crowds. Is there any bar on the back or just empty space? was it really crowded? cheers:)

Paula, we will be on the balcony too (my mum is coming with us again :thumb_yello:). Last time, we got to the front of the balcony (started queuing around 5pm ... well my mum started queuing then and we joined latter cos Simon had his broken foot!). like Jennie says it usually gets about 5 or 6 deep. We should be there around 4.30pm. I'm not dressing up this time either (will just have my flashing hearts!) not bringing glo sticks or lolipops cos they all got confiscated last time

    see you later

  8. Haven't got mine yet ... but SEE are notoriously bad for sending out tickets very late. Ticketmaster aren't much better either. I always try to buy from TicketWeb whenever possible - their booking fees are usually the lowest and they also send tickets out really promptly. I booked tickets on 2nd November for The Hoosiers in February - and I have the tickets already. .

Thanks for the info about despatch dates ... you've saved me a telephone call. I was going to start panicking if they hadn't arrived by Saturday!

  9. Hi there! I didn't know about the Peoples' Choice Award, but I've been voting for days, for Mika, in the other catagory. You have to put your email address, and can only vote once every 24 hours... no matter, my family have given me permission to use theirs as well, so he gets lots of votes!! Crafty hey? All's fair in love and Mika!! From Marilyn

    Love from Marilyn

Yes - it's amazing just how many e-mail addresses I found I'd got access to:thumb_yello:

Just got back from two weeks away ... can see I've loads to catch up on, but good to see that this thread is still up near the top!

Thanks everyone for voting ... please vote everyday using all the e-mails you have :wink2:
