  1. Here ! Mika just posted a blog and a bulletin on myspace :

Mika nominated for Digital Music Award

Fantastic news! MIKA has been short-listed for 'Best Pop Act' as part of the Digital Musical Awards. You can vote for him by clicking here: http://www.btdma.com/index.php/dma07/voting/

Voting closes on 30 September so get voting people!

You heard it hear first :wink2:

... exactly why this should be the official site. Please vote for the site too!

  2. Not sure if this has been posted anywhere else, apologies if it has did a quick search but couldn't find any mention.

The BT Digital Music Awards are now open for voting and there are two categories that we will all need to vote in.

    1. Mika is nominated for Best Pop Artist

    2. The People's Choice Award

"This award is for anyone who has created a music site or blog, meaning that, much like you lot, the entries will range from the big and glamourous to the small but perfectly formed."

So we can all vote for this site - and win an award for sunny monkey :punk:

Against the People's award - it also states "or if you have your own entry, you can nominate it here. We'll give you a nice shiny official voting button to put on your site or blog and then it's up to you to get your users to vote for you before voting closes on September 30th. Get voting now!"

So could one of the admin folk sort out getting a voting button put on this site - so we can all vote for it as best unofficial Music Site more easily?

Oh yeah, nearly forgot - you do the voting at www.btdma.com

Also forgot - you are allowed to vote everyday up to 30 September ... so please can we all vote everyday?!!

  3. Got the 7" and 12" from HMV in Northampton, but they had no cds. Got the CD from Virgin (who had no vinyl!), though did manage to pick up a 12" of Love Today :thumb_yello:

Unusually for HMV the 7" was cheaper in-store than online. £1.99 rather than £2.99 ... worth knowing for anyone who can get to a HMV store, I realise not everyone can.

  4. Would be interesting to hear Mikas reaction to this. I know people are entitled to their own opinion, but if Patrick doen't like Mika or his music, why did he agree to open for him, since he is going on about not doing anymore live perfomances. It seems a bit senseless to me.

I too am with Perez, taking Mikas side, and by the way, where the heck was Perez on Tuesday, he said he was going to be there.I was looking out for him and his orange hair, but no show.

Excellent point. If Patrick really meant what he said then he lacks principles. Why accept the gig? Also, why agree to remix Love Today and put his name to one of Mika's compositions?

How many faces do you have Patrick? ... at least two :bleh:

  5. But that is one of the good things about the Mercury Prize it isn't about popularity. I'm hoping Maps wins it. Maps is James Chapman from Northampton (where I'm from hence why I've heard of him). He really is very good. His MySpace page is mapsmusic ... if you like electronica I'd urge you to have a listen. Hopefully this nomination will bring his music to a wider audience ... he deserves it. And I'm disappointed that the nomination was announced before I had had chance to get tickets to his exclusive gig next week and now they're all sold out :emot-sad:

  6. :biggrin2: Yeah, thanks Max. I read that and was a bit puzzled thinking he must have meant me. I didn't see anyone else with a blonde curly wig.......so, yeah! Brilliant! :naughty::thumb_yello:

Yeah, he's definitely referring to you and Yuppymunch - you two were on the screens quite a bit!

Goldilocks indeed ... I mean if it was Goldilocks surely you would have 3 bears and some bowls of porridge with you? :wink2::roftl: :roftl:

With the obsession that they all seem to have that everything was based on Alice in Wonderland, it's a surprise they hadn't labelled you as Alice :naughty:

  7. :biggrin2: First of all: I'd like to thank all of you who were at Somerset House. I wish I had spoken to you more, but I'm a bit shy, I was freezing, and a bit ill. (Had walked waayyy too much on the day before. Also my stomach hurts every time when I'm nervous, whether the stress is bad or good. :boxed: ) I will chat with you more next time.

Yes, I wish I'd had the confidence to go up to more people and say hello. I will try harder next time. It would be good if we had an MFC banner that we could all meet up by. The flashing hearts are good identifiers, but not everyone has them. I also get embarrassed cos we are never at the front of the queue so I feel guilty standing with guys at the front of the queue for too long cos I feel like I'm getting daggered looks from people behind who (wrongly) assume that I am going to push in the queue. Also, I wish I'd had more confidence to go across to talk to Jennie, Sara, Jules etc over the other side ... sorry if it looked like I was ignoring you - I wasn't ... I'm just a bit shy :blush-anim-cl:

I can't watch Jennies video at work, it will not load. I will have another try at home tonight!

Blue Eyes, I saw you standing in the other queue! Your outfit is gorgeous, so original!

Yeah - I've got exactly the same problem ... keep getting not authorised messages. Then I managed to get it to download, but can only get the sound not the pictures, and since I can't have the sound on at work that's pretty useless :naughty: I'll play it at home later.

If there are any more crowd shots I'd love to see them. There's a few where I've worked out that I'm just off the opicture, so none of me yet  (but maybe that's a good thing!

Mika in Wonderland (Somerset House, actually)

Short of handing out little bags of cake at the door, Mika Penniman did everything possible to turn his latest London show into an eight-year-old's birthday party.

Lewis Carroll's Alice skipped around handing out lollipops.

Er No ... Mika's own creation Lollipop Girl hands out the lollipops

Tireless exuberance is his chief quality.

NO ... one of his many qualities

Songs this catchy sound best the very first time you hear them, but after 10 months of touring they felt much less fresh.

After ten months of touring they are sounding better and better!

The colourful crowd lapped it up in its entirety. They had come for a party, and he gave them nothing less, and nothing more.

Well I for one had a ball ... he gave far more than I was expecting. I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it again, third time for me and it keeps getting better! :wink2:

Picture Gallery - Mika at Somerset House

Why have all the reviewers got some obsession that it's Alice in Wonderland? Lollipop Girl is not Alice and Mika dressed as a Ringmaster at the end not the Mad Hatter (Mika is a perfectionist ... if he intended to be the Mad Hatter he wouldn't have forgotten an important detail like having a 10/6 sales sticker on his top hat :bleh:)

The Flamboyant Grace Kelly singer was at Somerset House for frolicking fun…

Pop favourite Mika asked concert-goers here on the Strand to make an effort and wear crazy fancy dress for this sold out gig.

The costumes, including a Goldilocks and a cat, not only helped the atmosphere but also left Mika wondering how people managed to get on the tube dressed like that!

Goldilocks? ... Little Bo Peep surely?

  10. MY REPORT THINGER!! 8D

Afterwards, a group of us went to wait for Mika, and he eventually did come out, but he wasn't able to stay for long, so I didn't get to give him the Japanese koala biccies that I wanted to give him... I did, however, get an accidental thwack in the face from Mika, which amused me muchly. :roftl: :roftl: :roftl: I'm still amused that the only face-to-face communication I managed to get with Mika was him asking if I was okay after the thwackage and me replying "Yeah" while giggling like a loon, hahahaha! Ah well, maybe I'll get to actually talk to him and go into anime/manga/music-geek-mode in December...

You missed a trick there ... when Mika asked if you were Ok, you should have said, "no - it needs a kiss better!" :naughty:

  11. Based on my experiences of open air gigs over the last few weeks my advice is to just ignore the weather forecasts.

16th June - The Feeling at Delamere Forest - forecast was for rain, rain, rain - we drove through torrential rain on Saturday afternoon. But when we arrived at the campsite it was dry, and the rain held off for the rest of the evening. Despite a few black clouds hanging over us, it didn't rain - and gig was great!

6th - 8th July - Cornbury Music Festival - the week leading up to this was very, very wet (there was all the flooding in the north). Forecasts was for more rain on two of the three days. Turned out to be one of the sunniest weekends of the year! Took wellies not sun cream and ended up getting burnt!

So based on that I am ignoring the weather forecasts. I will take my raincoat just in case - but may leave my umbrella at home. They confiscated it at The Feeling gig, and when I went to collect it they had put a different numbered ticket on it to the number on the ticket that they gave me. Ended up throwing a tantrum to get my brolly back :bash:

Trust me it'll be dry ... but please don't hold me to that :blush-anim-cl:

Told you the weather would be fine :wink2::bleh:

  12. Surprised there aren't more reports on here yet. But here's mine ...

We only decided to get tickets on Thursday - came up on e-bay at less than face value (sorry BG & HJ!) so decided to risk it even though they were e-tickets. Cos we were so late couldn't get the day off work, but managed to leave at 2.30pm. Drove down to Wembley Park and then got the tube in. I wanted to get in the queue straight away, but Simon insisted we got something proper to eat, so found a pasta place along the Strand ... I ate very quickly! 'No, no desserts, no coffees ... just the bill!' Got to the venue about 6.30 pm. I thought the queues would be massive by that time, but they weren't too bad at all. There were two queues - one to the left and one to the right, we were sent over to the left hand queue, so I didn't get to meet anyone over on the right (could see Sara over there). I recognised Kata from Birmingham and said hello. Also met up with Christel (TTel) (was great to meet you thanks for sending me your number). Christel introduced me to some others from here … but sorry can’t remember all the names. As others have said, loads of entertainment whilst we were queuing, jugglers, stilt walkers … oh and not forgetting Mika’s sound checks!

They didn’t let us in until around 8.45 pm … I was really nervous when they scanned our tickets, the first one was fine, but the second one made the wrong noise … but then she scanned it again, and it was fine – yeah we were in. Headed straight down to the stage, ended up about 6 rows back. Much better spot than I dreamed we’d get. Only disappointment was that I didn't have my camera with me (cos someone had lent it to his brother to take boring pictures of an airshow :boxed:) so no pics from me I'm afraid.

Patrick Wolf was excellent – enjoyed his performance a lot. And as for Mika …. well he just keeps on getting better! Loved it all, but especially Love Today … I thought his cover of ‘You’ve got the Love’ worked better than the Jackson's ‘ Want you Back’ that he had performed previously. Was good to hear ‘Over My Shoulder’ again, but lots of people talking through it again, personally, mush I as I love to hear it performed, I don’t think it will ever work live … it’s definitely an album track only.

Mika thanked everyone for dressing up (though I was disappointed that more people hadn’t).

What else … oh yes, just before ‘Grace Kelly’ Mika said how they had, had problems over the last few weeks, but he recognised quite a few of us, and pointed down where a lot of the MFCers were standing, and said that he didn’t want to let us down and this was one gig he had been determined would go ahead (or words to that effect).

Didn’t get to stay around afterwards so missed saying bye to people (or meeting Mika) as we had a long drive up the M1 – turned out to be a long time sitting parked on the M1 … not fun at 1 o’clock in the morning! Finally crawled into bed at 2 am … sorry didn’t have the energy to switch on the computer when I got in!

All in all the best gig yet! Glad I got to be there. Great to meet some more MFcers … even if only briefly. And also spent the evening with some wonderful Mika virgins … who I’m sure will be buying tickets today for November’s gigs … hello Adrienne and Adam if you’re reading!

  13. I don't know what time I'll be there, depending on the play and Orlando Bloom :biggrin2:

Good luck for you, fingers corssed for us, hoping to have a good spot.

Wow ... :wub2: Orlando Bloom, Patrick Wolf and Mika all in one day :wub2: ... you lucky, lucky girl :mf_rosetinted:

what time do most people get there?

or what is a good time to get there?

Hey Steph will be good to meet you - after you having to miss B'ham

I think I might miss you though cos no doubt you will be much farther forward than me. Other half reckons I have been too optimistic when I said 6 pm and says I haven't factored in any eating time. He wasn't very impressed when I asked how long he thought it would take to grab a Macky D's to eat in the Q? So we may be even later than I thought. I am going to push my luck and see if I can leave work at 2.30 pm or even 2 pm, but even then I ain't gonna make the queue before 6 pm, cos even if we get to London earlier than planned, I'll be made to eat something proper (I keep telling him I'll be too excited to eat :roftl:).

  14. I just went to the doctors and I have a 'rumbling appendix'. Luckily, it isn't serious, but if it gets worse, I have to go hosp. again (grr) but I explained to my mum my appendix will have to wait til Wensday. It is now 29 and a half hours til the doors open :biggrin2:

Becky that doesn't sound good :stretcher:

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :thumb_yello:
