  1. It's weird that The Guardian seem to have given it a favourable review, as the Guide - a supplement of The Guardian - said some less than flattering things about the new songs last week :aah:

That's because I assume it is different people who wrote those two reviews. it's not that the Guardian needs to align on what they think of an album - they simply publish those.

  2. Like I said to Christine, I summarize some parts because they were hard to translate.

His sentence was more something like "he looses me with the euro-techno-testo-like songs like Celebrate" (I'll go change the previous post).

So maybe it's best not to judge his knowledge by my poor translation skills:mf_rosetinted:

actaully, I didn't mean the wording but his reasoning / the content. Your translation is fine.

He may be a good writer but doesn't come across to me as knowledgeable on music. :dunno: of course that's just one piece he may have been reluctant to write so I could be wrong, that's only my first impression ..

  3. My money is on Stardust for a UK single.

I find it bizarre that people criticize some of these tracks saying it's like everything else on the radio. As if what's on the radio isn't what everyone is listening to and likes and buys. Like the goal of pop music should be to make something that's not popular.

I don't think any of Mika's songs sound like everything else that is on the radio. If they were though, I think it would work to Mika's disadvantage as he is so different in voice and personality from the rest.

I also believe that some of his singles failed because there was a real or assumed attempt to make them sound like everything else on the radio and it did not work as they ended up with an in-between product.

  4. @Demoment1608 thank you so much for the files - they are still downloading and will take a while

@ Karin and Saskia, It sounds like you turned the show into something fun to watch. Besides you having a great time I am absolutely sure you have contributed to a positive reception of Mika's new album in Germany. Well done:thumb_yello:

  5. Wasn't it an article? One where a journalist was longer together with him? If my memory isn't messing up things.

    Edit: Indeed. Here it is:

that was 3 years ago and an earlier breakup in the same relationship, I think. :teehee:

I am not sure if the 'emotionally killing a man' part referred to the same person though.

Ah yes, thank you. I actually couldn't remember if it was a tweet or not. Maybe I was just gossiping about it on Twitter. :naughty:

He did say something similar at the end of 2010 /early 2011 as well, didn't he.

  6. Not to be like that, but you missed me :mf_rosetinted:

I have just checked and you only seem to have posted a critics review only and I didn't feel it significant enough to add... :teehee: (I had this plan to add only the long and proper critic reviews to the first post as I expect there to be many coming up, and keep all the rest on the thread. Plus, all fan reviews, of course)

I can add the Swedish one, though, not a problem.

When is your review, btw? sorry to sound demanding :teehee:

  7. What a load of rubbish. How can something be enveloped in a dazzling aura of wonder and surprise and a sentence later it's incredibly bland. Suzie she does not say it's boring but that it's mature. I guess the bland comment is close enough to boring but she's contradicting herself with her multiple descriptions of something that is not bland at all. This is why I have no respect for these reviewers. She could have given it a 1 or a 6 or a 9 and it still would have been a page full of the same nonsense.

The exact opposite dynamic is going on in a British review in another thread. The whole review is just slamming Mika and his career yet they give the album 4/5 stars.

I'll read this again later today. All I remember is that the score she gave was not justified or explained to me in her actual review. So I agree the score and what she wrote is rather contradictory.

  8. If we talk about scores, the second album actually received some mellow reception with average scores, unlike the first one. The first album did grab people' attention for sure. It was that different. A pop star can only arrive at the music scene once though, the rest are always comebacks . So I think it is the right direction to try to do something else rather than try to repeat the first album as there is no way he can. You can only step into the same river once.

How one feels about an album is rather subjective, of course, it may even change on a daily basis.

  9. Well, I what record she would rate as 10 if this one scores only 6 for her...

She has a good point on the 'less layered' comment coming from Mika earlier as that' s not what tbe record ended up like - only to its benefit though.

Anyway, even though she may find this record boring () , all in all, it is a good review and she seems to be familiar with Mika' earlier releases, too. Perhaps her feeling bored comes from somewhere else / different expectations. :dunno: I'll link this to the critics reviews tomorrow: it is one of the few that talks about the record itself.
