1. Well for the future, queuing system or not, I won't change my habits and won't come at midnight or 2 am to a gig, I love Mika but I am not a silly chick.

You can not be on the top of your healthness when you haven't slept and can't enjoy the show properly.

Moreover, it is like there was a little war between fans there and, beeing a very open and talkative person which loves meeting new people to a gig, I deplore that. I also feel like, because of these behaviours you will have a very bad image of France and I am really sorry about that :bored:

I totally agree about queuing so early. It's not worth it to be so exhausted by the time Mika comes on stage. :huglove:

This nightmare never would have happened if John was there.

Thanks for your reports Sabine, Deb, Sweetieval (not a silly chick indeed! :teehee:) and everyone.

The only solution to this 2 am queuing stupidity is to just let the silly chicks (:naughty:) go for it and do not try to compete. Some people will never see sense and you can't let them affect your judgement. I really think there wouldn't be more than a small handful of people there in the middle of the night if everyone else didn't cave in to the panic/need to compete.

You're absolutely right about John not being there. And about the small minority who intend to queue at stupid times. Sigh.

I was so angry... I really was. And I'm very sorry for you who didn't get the spot you were supposed to have. I told people during hours that it would be ok because they were telling me that but it didn't happened....

I'm really sorry this turned out to be such a disaster. I wish there was something we could have done. Sadly it seems every aspect of this gig, everything Rocksquare came in contact with ended up being a bit of a disaster.

Good idea, but a prerequisite of such system working is a tour manager attending all gigs and having the name of the fanclub contact person in charge of the list. ...Needless to say, such queue would be called an MFC queue, and perhaps open to everyone but only after the time it is started. But then again there would probably be people coming earlier and demanding to be first on the list when it is started.. :dunno:

Yeah the only way that would work is if we had Team Mika enforcing it. The admins from the various Mika community sites could in theory come up with an agreement, but there's nothing to stop any random members (or even fans who aren't on any of the sites) from completely ignoring it. Believe me, I would LOVE a worldwide "no queuing before noon" rule. Really, EVERYONE would benefit. But I suspect 90% of people would tell us to piss off if we tried to enforce that. :naughty:

  2. Me too, I've never thought that I would be bored with a new song :boxed:

It's such a freakin' WEIRD feeling, isn't it? I really feel like I've crossed over into some sort of weird parallel universe. A year ago or even two months ago I never ever would have imagined there could be a nice HD video of a brand new Mika song - and that I'd find it just meh and wouldn't be compelled to watch it more than once.

It's like...how did this happen? What kind of strange world have I fallen into? :insane:

  3. Hmm.

I listened to this song once and then pretty much forgot about it until just now, when I actively made a point of watching it again. And let me tell you, that feels SO WEIRD. How is it possible that there's a brand new video of Mika singing a brand new song and it just leaves me uninterested? When he debuted HMDYLM, Rain, and the four songs at the Roxy it was like I was hypnotized. I couldn't stop listening to them.

But this song...it's an effort to get through the whole video.

I think people are bang on in saying it sounds like a cheesy Disney song. I feel like I've slipped through a time machine and am watching a video of Mika's future west end musical debut. And don't get me wrong, I think Ida is incredibly talented - but she's an opera singer for a reason, as that's what she does best. Incorporating that aria at the start of Good Gone Girl on last year's arena tour was a stroke of brilliance. It allowed her to showcase her voice doing what she does best.

On this song it sounds like her voice is being forced into a box that it doesn't fit into. And her voice doesn't blend well with Mika's at all. To me, Ida sounds like a Disney princess in this song. And it certainly doesn't help that she's dressed like one, too. :naughty:

Maybe this song would resonate more with me if it was a solo Mika effort with him just in jeans and a t-shirt. I'm finding it hard to take the whole thing seriously with those costumes added to the mix. :naughty:

Or, he could take this song to Nashville, pitch it to Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, and have them throw some banjos and a steel guitar onto it instead of some sweeping Disney instrumentation. Make a country song out of it. :teehee:

  4. I am totally in love with this song!!! I love all the new songs, but this is my favorite. Elle Me Dit is second. I find it funny that I don't know any French but the two songs in French are the ones I like the most and the one in English is my least favorite :teehee:

I feel the exact same way. Elle Me Dit is okay as a dance track, and I haven't paid much attention to the new English song, really. But this one I've watched probably 10 times. There's *something* to it - it builds up in the verses and then the "elle est libre" bit soars. :wub2:

We need the correct lyrics, dammit, if any of us non-French speakers are ever going to have a hope of learning it. Cough 'em up, Mika! :insane:

  5.

    :shocked::shocked:

Is this the same guy who sang Elle Me Dit over a vocal backing track in an NRJ studio a couple days ago?!! Because this is freakin' awesome. He's got a French Coldplay vibe going on with the strings and such, and I love how into it he's getting.

I have no idea WTF he's singing about, but his delivery on this song is très cool.

Oh dear me, I'm fangurling again. :blush-anim-cl:

    :fangurl:

  6. Really?

It's a real show on a real radio station, and recently up for an award.

And they had TBWKTM as album of the week recently.

Yeah there's no question they are an existing station and actually broadcast a radio program, but as others have said it's obscure and the people behind it aren't very professional.

A while ago they were on Twitter trying to encourage Mika fans to spam Mika's Twitter account in order to get an interview with him on their program. When someone pointed out that they should contact Mika's people and make their request through proper channels, the Weekend Wireless people replied saying oh, we don't have time to do it that way. Trust me, that's not how any sort of proper radio station operates. You don't see Radio 1 DJs asking people to spam Mika in order to get an interview. :naughty:

So, if they want to play Elle Me Dit, great, but like Christine said I suggest we remain a little wary about these guys.

  7. That's easy to do when you're french....:sneaky2:

Me for instance sing it like this:

Elle me dit na na na na na internet na na na na na ta tete

Elle me dit na na na na pas comme ton pere na na na na comme ton frere...

Porquoi tu gaches ta vie na na na na na na

    :mf_rosetinted:

You're doing better than me. All I've got is "Elle me dit...danse danse!" :roftl:

  8. i see pictures.... i see calendars :swoon::naughty:

Yes! August is going to be great! :wub2:

Does it work if I just link my Facebook album here of the photos?

    http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150222811631711.312478.640966710

if not I will upload some of them other places.

    Dor

Thanks for sharing! :flowers2: I can only see your album if I'm logged in. That should be okay since most of our members have FB. If a lot of people end up not being able to see them perhaps you could upload a few of the best ones in another place later on. :punk:

  9. :thumb_yello: That's it, Christine! Adulescent is a contraction of 'adolescent' and 'adult'. Do you have an equivalent word in English?

I've heard some people use "kidult" - a blend of "kid" and "adult." :naughty:

Not my favourite Mika song - too dancy and over-produced for me. I prefer Mika "au naturelle" :blush-anim-cl:

I think the real loss is the synthed-up vocals. Rain and Relax are dancy too, but at least they showcase that he can sing like very few others can. I think what they've done to his vocals makes him sound like any other mediocre singer. :dunno:

My long suffering son who has had to listen to my replay, replay, replay, says it has a sound like 'Brimful of Asha' too.

Pretty sure I like 'Brimful of Asha' better. :roftl:

  10. I got my credit card in the mail today. Now the next time Mika comes to Canada (whenever that will be :mf_rosetinted:), I can probably do the Toronto-Quebec or Toronto-New York concert trip. Hopefully. Not that any of you care. I am done now. Goodbye.

They say exercise is good, right? Well, I figure the same advice applies to credit cards! And what better way to exercise your credit card than a Mika trip? :fisch:

  11. Does anyone begrudge him making money at private gigs? Not me!!! The more the better. I hope he's charging these people $1 million because he deserves it and how lucky am I to have gotten even better and more special performances for free or close to it?? :biggrin2: I think it's awesome that Mika can command the kind of money that (I hope) he does and if he wants to blow it on champagne for MFC or a 50 foot blow up Big Girl doll or 3 washing machines or some ugly chandeliers or just driving around London with flowers cascading out of his convertible, that is fantastic as far as I'm concerned. :roftl:

    :lmfao:

    :bow::bow::bow:

Now we are talking about differences in culture. :naughty: In Canada, USA, and also here in Holland there's nothing wrong about talking money, how much someone earnes. other countries think it's not polite to do so.

Yup! That's why some people were like "WTF, we can't talk about whether or not his tours are profitable, but we can talk about his body hair?" :roftl:

In certain countries it's just not a terribly private thing. :dunno:

  12. I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, if people are upset, but wanted to point out that I think you hit the nail on the head with the 'connection' theme. It's all about the connection.

There's a big difference between iMMa and Mika though, and that is, that iMMa wants (and seeks) that connection with the fans, and Mika clearly doesn't. He has been disconnected for the longest time now, work or no work.

Now though, and before the "he can do whatever the heck he wants" brigade try to jump down my throat, note that I have only pointed out the fact that he doesn't want the connection. I didn't cast judgement on it. :wink2:

That's how it seems to me, too. Or more specifically - Mika isn't interested in communicating with his broader fanbase online. :dunno: Yes, he (so far) is really good about chatting with fans in person, after gigs - and that's great. But that's not the same as building and nurturing that connection with fans online - a much larger audience than just those who are able to meet him after gigs.

The thing is, it hasn't always been this way. And I think that's a big part of why some Italian fans were frustrated that he was right there in their country (or city!) and they didn't know about it. Of course Mika has every right to do private gigs or not, to tweet or not, etc. No one is disputing that. But it's clear to me how some of his fans may be really feeling his distance these days, especially because he used to make his fans feel more "connected" back when he was communicating regularly.

In the absence of that connection people are gobbling up crumbs - in this case, word of a private gig that just happened to be on Italian soil. :dunno:

  13. I said it was for the tour, which he'll be doing next year, and obviously at some point this year he will start the planning for.

So he will need to make sure he has the capital to fund it, and obviously shows like the private ones go some way to going towards that.

He doesn't do them for fun, he does them to put money in the bank, so that he can go on to put on the tours.

If he didn't do them, then he wouldn't be putting on the fancy shows that he does, because what he makes from the tours wouldn't cover it, especially during this rececession.

Not necessarily. It's possible his label could be providing money to offset the costs of his shows as well. When it comes to a world tour, this can amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars. If that's the case with Mika, it would mean he's not footing the bill directly for every aspect of his tours.

  14. Well let's be honest, the boy's not living in mamma's basement anymore, he's got a mortgage to pay, and the record company aren't going to be handing him cash while he's costing them money in the studio and trying to get string sections and gospel choirs and god knows what else for his budget....

Most major label deals involve the artist receiving an advance - and not just for record production costs, but for living and other expenses while making the record as well. Yes, this advance will probably be recouped by the label from future album sales, but unless his deal is really unusual it would be inaccurate to assume he's not getting a penny from the label these days.

  15. I see you point Rose, I really do...still I feel sad about what happened. Imma and Cherisse shared a bit and Mika didn t say a word. I don't blame the fact he occasionally does private gigs and I'm sure that's a common way to raise money, but this was an event, even if a posh and private one..and a word would be appreciated. Even if it would be useful only to show some support..for example..a good luck tweet or similar silly things. I like the idea to be able to show my support and I appreciate Mika because he always seems near to his fans. This is why I don't like secret things like that. About Skin, I understand what you mean but we don't know how she usually interact with her fans..so we can't make a comparison.

And I'm SURE that Mika didin't want to be rude with fans..maybe he just didn't think to say a word but I would prefer something different. That's all :)

If it was true both Inma and Cherisse couldnt share anything too..

And, just to be clear, I didn't say that because I wanted to be there waiting outside (simply inappropriate for the event) but i only would like to have the chance to show my support.

The thing is, Mika not saying a word on Twitter or anything IS pretty much in line with how he's been interacting (or not) with his fans over the past six or eight months. He hasn't even come back to share song titles/lyrics like he mentioned, so I can't say I'm surprised he didn't tweet about this private gig. :dunno:

Some other artists I follow have indeed done private gigs and tweeted pics and vids about them - but these are the same artists who tweet from the studio or even tweet a pic of themselves at a pub or whatever. They're always nurturing those fan relationships. It seems Mika's just put all fan relations on hiatus for now. :bleh:

Still, I can understand your frustration in knowing that he's nearby and not knowing what's going on. :aah:

  16. Do you guys remember Hanson? You know, the boy band who did MMMBop back in like 1997? :naughty: Well they're still around, and still making music. They're also CONSTANTLY posting vlogs and other bits of video content. Well, I came across this and it made me LOL. They were in a car on their way between gigs or something, and filmed themselves rocking out to Queen. :lmfao:
