  1. Blue Sky, yeah...I know it was a detailed report, but I was excited. I figured if anyone would enjoy reading my review, it'll be you guys. LadyGodiva, I think you should just post your review here. There's no such thing as a Mika report that's too detailed.
  2. I'm heading off to bed, too. Vero, thanks again for your fantastic review! It was great meeting you.
  3. Thanks, guys! Yeah, it's definitely addicting. I really need to go to bed, but Philly reviews are starting, so aaah! I want to know how tonight's show went!
  4. Vero, it's so exciting to read your review! (I'm Laura's sister by the way, so hello again!) I love all the details too, the things I missed when I left backstage. Can't wait to read the next part!
  5. Oh hey! Thanks for posting the picture! I'm trying to connect the people I saw in line to the people on the board. (Yes, I'm definitely doing things backwards.) Thanks for the welcome.
  6. Hey all! I sort of did the intros out of order, since I already posted my concert review in the Toronto thread. However, now that I've done that I thought I'd say hello here, too! My name is Alissa, and I live in Michigan. The Toronto show was my first Mika concert, but certainly not my last! I love music, art, writing, anything creative, and I also do yoga and write a bit myself. I'm glad I found the board, and I'm really looking forward to reading more concert reviews!
  7. Very much so. I can't wait to see him again, but who knows when that'll be?
  8. Finally, my sister called me and said she’d be right out. She started to tell me everything that had happened (and I'll let her tell you this--it's amazing!) but she didn’t think I’d be allowed backstage. I was so disappointed, and asked how I’d be able to meet Mika. She asked Vero what she thought, and Vero said that maybe we’d meet him if we waited outside by the tour buses. Then she asked me, “Do you want me to see if I can find Mika and ask him if you can come back really quick?” I said yes (!!!), that I would be so grateful, so she ran backstage. What happened next totally threw me off-guard. I was expecting my sister to come back on her own and say either yes, I could walk backstage, or no, I couldn’t, but I was standing by my mom, when Mika appeared in the doorway to the backstage area with my sister beside him. I was so surprised to see him there that I actually stood there with my mouth open for a few seconds while he looked at me probably wondering what the heck I was doing. Then I snapped out of it, and I kind of ran over to him, stuck my hand out and said, “Thank you for the best show EVER!” He shook my hand and said, “You’re welcome.” I asked him, “Could I get a picture with you, or is this not a good time?” He looked at me and said, “Well, I don’t think so, I’m not really feeling very well right now.” So after he said no to the picture I said, “Oh, okay". I didn’t want to push it, but I was sad that he wasn’t feeling well. Then my mom walked up to him and handed him some art she had drawn and made into bookmarks. He asked her some questions about them, and thanked her, and then said something like "Okay, who has the camera?” I looked up at him and said “Really?” And he said something to the affect of, “Yes, but real quick; I’m really not feeling well.” So he put his arm around me and I put my arm around him, and my sister snapped the picture. When my sister was getting the camera ready I remember saying “Thank you so much, thank you,” over and over again. Yeah, eloquence was gone by this point. After the picture was taken, I said thank you again, and he said you’re welcome, and I told him, “Thank you so much, and take care of yourself,” and he “Bye, take care,” and I said “You, too,” and probably said thank you again. Then he went to the backstage area, and we left out the other way through the main entrance. And that's that. Again, my sister has more to say, but that's her story and you'll love reading it! I just wish I could tell Mika thank you so so much for meeting me. I really appreciated that he took the time to say hi when he didn't have to. I'm so lucky to be a fan. (And a big thank you to my sister!)
  9. (Continuation of my review...and I hope I remembered all of this correctly. The concert was a really incredible blur.) The lights finally went down, and screams erupted from the audience. (Me being one of them.) The opening notes of “Relax” began, and people really started to scream. Mika appeared from the back of the stage, I went crazy, and started singing my heart out and waving my hands in the air. “Big Girl” was the second song, and that was so cool because I had actually hung out with the Big Girl dancers before the show, and here they were onstage in their bright blue corsets! That was awesome. When Mika sang “Holy Johnny” he introduced the song as something that wasn’t on the album, but a song he’s been singing a lot on tour. At the end of the song, he added a little “now Johnny prays for me,” and then kept going singing “and prays and prays and prays and prays and…” and Cherisse (sp?), and Martin, Luke, and Mikey, were all trying to keep up with him singing background vocals, but he was teasing them and stopped singing, and then started again and kept dragging it out. Cherisse started laughing, hit him, and he just laughed. Of course you've heard about "Stuck In The Middle" by now. It really did turn out to be an awesome redition, and there didn’t seem to be any further uh…hiccups in the show after that. Ah, except “Love Today.” They had some major tech issues during that one, and there was a lot of feedback that seemed to hurt Mika’s ears, because he took his earpiece out. His mic kept dying off and on too, but then I later found out (I was oblivious at the time) that Martin changed guitars, and that seemed to help. Before he sang "Billy Brown", he mentioned a record guy from the US (Jeremy, or Tommy something? I don’t remember) who said that song would “Never be played in the United States.” And Mika went on to say that he’s played it at every show since then, and of course we screamed and sang along. He was really into crowd interaction, and had us sing along quite a lot! During the end of “Stuck In The Middle” he had us repeat the scatting (sp?) part at the end of it, and he kept making it harder until the audience couldn’t copy him exactly right, and he laughed and kept going. “Lollipop” was such an amazing ending with my sister onstage! I knew she was coming up after he sang “Grace Kelly” and when the “Lollipop” intro started, I freaked out. It was so amazing to see her come skipping out onstage with Vero, all dressed up in her pink ruffly dress and blonde wig. She did such an awesome job at the part where her and Vero go out into the front stage area and do their little dance. They were coordinated and it was so cute, and I just screamed and screamed I was so excited! There were balloons all over the place, and she kept hitting them out into the audience. Then the rainbow confetti was shooting up into the air and I was surrounded by balloons and confetti, and Mika was taking a bow with his band, and a bow with the Big Girls and Lollipop Girls, and then it was over. Right away, my mom and I headed toward the other side of the stage where we would meet my sister. I texted her and told her she did an amazing job. When we got to the backstage entrance, I showed the (rather young and not-at-all-intimidating) security guard our passes, and explained my sister was a Lollipop Girl, and he let us back. Other girls (and guys) saw this, and ran over to start begging him to let them back. We didn’t go back out onto the floor, but waited behind the stage, where there was a little open area. The crew immediately started taking everything apart and putting it away, and we decided to try to wait there but stay out of the way as much as we could. We were afraid if we went all the way out on the floor that security wouldn’t let us back again since the other fans were being annoying. The young security guy soon got a bigger security guard to help him, and I heard him say, “Can you help me? They won’t leave me alone.” Poor guy. Now began the waiting. My sister text me to say that she had to stay backstage because if she left she wouldn’t be allowed back again, and she wanted to meet Mika. We couldn’t go backstage where she was, so we kept texting back and forth, but stayed in our respective areas. The two Big Girl dancers came out, and we hugged and I told them how great they did. They were so glad to get out of their costumes, and said they could actually breathe again now, and the corsets were so tight they couldn’t do any of the dance moves they had planned. Luke walked by as we waited, but I didn’t know what to say. I got really shy. Then I saw Yasmine and again, I couldn’t think of anything to say. She walked by a couple of times, I think showing the press where to go one of those times, but I could never work up the courage to say hi. Mikey walked by too, and I actually did say “Happy Birthday” to him. At some point, the Big Girls came out again to let us know there was a cake, and they were all singing Happy Birthday to Mikey. (I need to pause and type a Part 3)
  10. Hello everyone! This is my first post, but I've been lurking for awhile. I was at the Toronto show, and wrote a REALLY long review and thought you might like to read some of it. I'll edit out the parts that people have already said, or that are really boring (like our drive from Michigan to Toronto, or our walk to the venue) and get to the good stuff. Now, my sister is LadyGodiva (aka Toronto Lollipop Girl!), and she's still writing her review. Mine will pale in comparison to the awesomeness you will read about when she posts but still...it was an amazing night. Also, before my long review, I just want to say that it was nice to briefly meet some of you before the show. I was the girl in the red hat who didn't know what a took was, lol (and am still not sure how to spell it). Sooo...here we go... At 6:00pm, it was time for my sister to go inside and get all decked out in her Lollipop costume. My mom and I went with her (of course) and pretty much right on time we were allowed in the venue. We walked through the venue, and to the catering area where we were told to wait. A few minutes later, we met Vero, who was really nice and told us all about the Montreal show the night before. Then it was time to go backstage. We hurried behind the stage and through a doorway to the real “backstage” area. We were led down a hall and into a very small, cluttered room full of costumes and props, and miscellaneous stuff. In the room were the two professional dancers who would be the Big Girls onstage during the show. They were both really nice and we talked about dancing, yoga, shoes, and all sorts of random stuff. Vero and my sister started to apply their makeup, because we were told as soon as the stylist arrived (Yasmine) she would show them their costumes and they could start getting ready. As we waited for Yasmine, and were sitting around discussing random stuff, I recognized a familiar person walk past our door. I stopped talking and looked up, and when I realized it was Mika, I think I gasped really loud. He looked really good, and just as fast as he appeared, he glanced in and walked away. It was wild. I sort of looked at my mom and my sister like “Whoa, he really is here, and this is really happening.” It was amazing; my first glimpse of Mika in-person. Then my mom and I were told it was time for us to go out into the venue and we were no longer allowed to be backstage. We had been given backstage passes which we stuck to our pants, but they weren’t as helpful as I had hoped they’d be. As we packed up to leave, the Big Girls (I wish I could remember their names!) came in and one of them said something like “Oh my God, our costumes are really intense.” She didn’t know they’d be as tight as they were. I said goodbye to my sister, and my mom and I walked out into the venue. By this time, everyone in line had been allowed inside, and the stage area was packed with people. My mom and I had been in the venue before anyone else, and we could have easily been front row center, but I guess I had been hoping something exciting would happen backstage, or that we would be allowed to stay back there longer. No such luck, but finally we ended up approximately second row on the FAR FAR left of the stage. (And now is intermission in my review, so I'll post in a few minutes with the concert and after-concert experience.)
