  1. I hope my translation makes sense in English 'cause the original text sounded like a whole list of nasty cliché-remarks. I tried to do my best :')

    TRANSLATION :

    Mika : Pros/Cons.

It’s been already 5 years since the golden boy of the music – who just came out of the closet – made the charts crazy with his bubble-gum hits, a kind of sour “Île aux enfants” (French “symbol” : check it here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI6gbU5lo94&feature=fvwrel...could be compared to Teletubies... I guess...). He comes back with a 3rd CD (The Origin of Love) which tends to sound more like clubbing music. So, should we go for a 3rd round with Mika or is this CD just “too much” to take it?

    GLITTER AND BE GAY!

5 years ago, Mika, a young skinny boy singer born in Lebanon , invaded the top of the charts. His musical world was inspired by the cabaret but also by Elton John’s glitter or even by “Frankie Goes to Hollywood” with his lyrics “Relax & Take it easy”, which you could exchange against 2 poppers bottle. 2 Cds later, the genius pretty boy is back with “The Origin of Love”. Mika has fun, he acts like a diva and explores the most “mirror ball” side of his colorful pop world. With his new mix of disco lullabies, tornados of sensuality, references of grandpa Elton, sneaky trips to the Scissor Siters’ and pure electro twisters, Mika has decided to steal the Greatest artist’ show... Wel, we’d rather say to greatest female artists: Katy Perry, Adele, Rihanna, Britney, Madonna, George Michael, which are being told off.

The bitch party 2012 is made of boys, we’ll have warned you!

WHAT’S THIS GLOUBIGOUBA (doesn’t mean anything in French either xD)?

Lots of questions came up while listening to the 3rd and too awaited CD of Mika. The song “Origin of Love” was promising though, with piano and slipping bass guitar, softened voice and absurd lyrics: “Love is a drug and you are my cigarette, love is addiction and you’re my Nicorette”, dubbled by a "vochorale" strange choir (word invented by the reporter, I think…), great idea. Beside that, the CD looks like the guest-list of a screwed jet-set party: Pharell was mistaken with the address, Martin Solveig confirms that he’s OVERRATED and the bad-country singer Hillary Lindsey can be proud of having written the most silly lyrics of the year (Step with me), with which a kiss might be expected after the wedding. Finally, Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun)’s touch is as spineless as jellyfish. Only “Popular” and Priscilla Renea might save the ship. The problem? Mika is still running after his CD. Alone

What a nasty piece of paper ! :sneaky2:

  2. from MIKA fb page:

We promised you a competition… it’s here and it’s a pretty big one! Mika is hitting the big U.S. of A. for a row of shows in October. He hasn’t gigged in America for a while and the shows sold out in record time! We’re sure a lot of you would like a report on Mika’s first show of the tour in NYC, so we are looking for one budding blogger or journalist to grab a friend, go to the show, review the concert, the buzz, the songs and the night in general, and to send us in their article. We’ll even give you a special set list after the show to help you remember all the songs… We’ll then publish the article here on Mika’s facebook page so everyone can find out what happened for this special first show!

Want to win this amazing prize and be part of the action?! All you have to do is email mikacompetition@gmail.com with your name, age, name and age of your guest and a brief bit about why you think you’re the right person for this job. Unfortunately you need to be over 18 and winners must make their own way to and from the show - the competition opens NOW and will close on Monday 3rd September at 18:00 New York time, so get cracking! Don’t forget to put ‘Webster Hall’ in the title of your email as well! Good luck and stay tuned, we’ll announce the winner next week…

I wish I lived in NY but I'm a few thousand miles away from NY :fisch:

What about doing the same in Brussels ?:wub2:

  3. that was portuguese ;)

    Oh sorry

It wasn't the right link xD The video I was talking about is one in which people could ask some questions to Mika through their webcam... I can't remember where I saw it ><' *trying to find it back*

    EDIT :

The video was made in Italy but some people from South America asked some questions so Mika tried to reply in Spanish.

Can something translate it, by the way ? :D Maybe it has already been done but I can't find it on the forum...

  4. I can't watch it either in Belgium I guess we'll have to wait for it to land on youtube xD

I'm ooking forward to hear again Mika talking in Spanish :D I already heard that on the Mmmm Google or MSN interview (can't recall the sponsor) and it was cute *__* His Spanish sounded far better than mine and I've studied it for 2 years though...

  5. You not gonna believe this! Because you could only enter the contest once and there were only 50 tickets to win I also asked some friends and family to enter, because I really wanted to go. Not only did I win, a friend won too, and I just found out my brother won also! And I was so afraid I won't win anything.:teehee:

Wow, really lucky indeed :teehee: I'm still waiting for the other contests to end as well but I'm afraid I shouldn't hope too much given L'Oréal was the best shot we had... :fisch:

  6. That is all well and good for the artist but I am the consumer of the art. I'm not interested in substandard theatre just because Mika (or anyone else) wants to express themselves that way. I'm sure Mika wouldn't pay money to see me shoot his band and I'd be no worse at it than he is. :naughty:

Actually, I saw him shooting his band in Antwerp and I found it pretty cool but I agree, it doesn't stick with the new image he seems to be looking for. Actually, I tend to like the idea of an artist who does not only try to please his audience so.. I don't know xD You're tautly right , though ;) The consumer doesn't have to care about what the artist intended to do, he just judges what he gets in front of him and that's normal.

I will take your word for it that the French songs are up to par. But I'm still not interested in them because it's not my language and more importantly it's not my culture. I don't see why I should have to pay a premium to import the album I want so Mika can indulge himself or some other country that has nothing to do with Canada.

I completely understand and agree :) Actually, even for me, it sounds pretty obvious that Canada is rather close to US when it comes to culture... I speak French and I live in Belgium which make me pretty close to the French culture (it's still different, though) and some friends of mine went to Canada for a while so I know it's completely different there~

I don't know what that marketing office had on his mind when they made this decision... Hopefully, you will maybe be able to order it through your record shop. :'/ Are the US far from where you live ? :S

  7. I guess I think that people should do what they are good at instead of being a jack of all trades (and master of none. :mf_rosetinted:)

The reason I want to go to the theatre to see theatre is because the people who produce Broadway and West End shows are the best in the world at it. Mika's music is good enough for a West End show for sure. Toy Boy, Billy Brown, etc. sound like they have been written for a musical. But putting on a bowler hat and pretending to shoot your band doesn't cut it I'm afraid.

My both parents work in artistic fields and they don't restrain to their major art. Of course, you shouldn't forget your major field (I agree with you, music has to be the priority here) but I believe being an artist means to constantly look for new ways to express something, which can be anything. The purpose of art is making us feel something, it's not scientifical and there are plenty of ways to get there. So, I don't think it's bad if Mika wants to be personaly involved in the artworks of his Cd/shows... It shows a willingness to deliver something that comes as sincere as possible.

And if Mika's French songs were of the standard of La Solitude of course I would love them. But they're not. I am not even convinced he has some drive to make French music since he needs someone else to write it for him. Someone else who is nowhere near as good as writing songs as Mika is from what I've heard.

Are you talking about Barbara's song ? :) Well, the thing with French song is that you can't have a nice French song without good lyrics, while you can in English. And up to now, I think Mika have done pretty weel with Doriand with Karen & Elle me Dit... I understand that Mika might want to sing in French as he grew up with French music and France is a kind of 2nd homeland for him.

Even if he sings in French, you can tell it isn't a basic French song and he's aware of it. He reminds me a bit of Michel Berger's work (for Karen) and I must say that I really like it.

I don't think Mika tries to make classic "French song" as Barbara's, he just does his thing and it's pretty bold, I think. A native French speaker wouldn't use the same words and would probably try to compete with huge song writers such as Gainsbourg or Brel, he needn't and anyway, the people that do great French music do the same, they do their own stuff and it's great. You can tell the influence of old classics but it's different and good.

Doriand has worked with lots of great French artists (Bashung, Françoise Hardy, Sylvie Vartan, Camélia Jordana, ...) so, he must be at least a bit good for nothing...

It just seems like pandering to the French audience to me. And if he wants to pander to France, whatever, but I don't live in France so I resent having to go to another country to get the best edition of this album. :sneaky2:

Indeed, Canada should get the 2 versions, that'd be more logical... :'/

I hope you can, in the end, get the version you like :o

  8. I did some research because I don't understand the term he used "Blighty" :blush-anim-cl:

Sorry I'm not native in English language :aah: I found it interesting, maybe it was just a question of mine, but I decided to share:wink2:

I love the way interesting as Mika express himself :wub2:

Blighty is a British English slang term for England,[1] deriving from the Hindustani word vilāyatī (विलायती; pronounced bilāti in many Indian dialects and languages), from Persian velayat and ultimately from Arabic wilayah, originally meaning something like "province". In India the term came to refer to Europe, and more specifically England and Britain.[2]

The term was more common in the latter days of the British Raj, and is now more commonly used as a term of endearment by the expatriate British community or those on holiday to refer to home.

    I've learned something today, thanks ! :wink2:

  9. Don't get me wrong! I completely agree with you - Celebrate and Origin Of Love (and every other Mika song, including Blame it On The Weather :mf_rosetinted:) are an infinity times better than that Potty song, but if this is what UK radio listeners like at the moment, it's hard for me to imagine how they could like something from Mika. But like I said before, I hope I'm wrong :crossed:

On BBC, Florence + the Machine & Emeli Sandé are in the Top-10, right after the Pooty song... It might give us hope about UK's tastes xD

I don't get it ... British people have so many nice bands, though... Why on earth would they listen to that kind of %@# songs ?

  10. Thank you for the list, quite helpful.

Yes, actually! No official statements as far as I know, tho. The Dutch Free Record Shop does, however, mention the same release date for the Dutch (=UK) version (14th of September). And even more amazing, they have three versions available:

    Normal, UK tracklist for €18,50:

    http://www.freerecordshop.nl/muziek/origin-of-love-mika-0602537150236

    Deluxe, UK tracklist for €21,50

    http://www.freerecordshop.nl/muziek/origin-of-love-deluxe-mika-0602537151516

    Deluxe, FRENCH tracklist for €23,50

    http://www.freerecordshop.nl/muziek/origin-of-love-french-mika-0602537140923

No pre-order as of yet, but they usually do offer this, so I suppose that's only a matter of time.

p.s. it says the 14th of September for the French version as well...which I do think it's weird since it's supposed to come out in France the 17th :P

The Free Record Shop Site offers the three versions in Belgium as well, no pre-order availible yet, though.
