Even though it seems favorable at the end it has this biting and bitter under layer. Which I don't like because it seems almost mocking...

I felt this way too. I mean, he kind of called the album immature and desperate. 

I always thought of it as kind of freeing too. And not necessarily in a romantic way, more in a, I can't stand who I've become so I need a fresh start, way.

I definitely also see that in the song, in addition to the snarkiness (which it's entirely possible I'm projecting onto it, since I myself tend to be passive-aggressive and bitter  )

Here's what he said:  "Rio is a funny song because it's the other side of the song Ordinary Man. If Ordinary Man was my perspective on this love story which went wrong, Rio is the other person. It's the story I pictured and it's also the thoughts of the other person, a little bit to make me, to reassure myself, I've invented the other side of the story."

I feel like that changes the tone of the song a bit. Lines that sound self-deprecating come off as passive-aggressively vicious. 

There's the funniest little fight/arguement on twitter right now about this. It's on the post he just made about being in Milan tomorrow. Someone keeps responding to every tweet he does with "PEANUT BUTTER". No idea why, but finally another fan was like what is your deal? He's allergic! And the first fan was all omg are you sure? And the second quoted Rio. Lol.

I'm so proud of my country!  Of course, there are still a lot of places here where you can now get married to your same-sex partner and then get fired from your job the next day if your boss finds out and doesn't approve. 

This song is one of my least faves of the new album (just cuz most of the others are THAT good to me) .....and yet, somehow i keep finding myself dancing around my apartment to this one

 

 

The credits says Clarenece Coffee Jr (the son of a gospel singer) sings backing vocals on this, so i thought he was the one doing the low vocals?

The pronunciation sounds like him to me. Particularly noticeable on the word "boy" at the end of the song. Or am I just delusional?    

Either way, it's in my top 3 (along with Good Wife and All She Wants)

Doesn't he sing, "distant hearts?" I'm sure that's what I hear, and it makes sense.

Now that you mention it, I hear "distant heart" too. That was the one part I wasn't sure about, I mainly can just hear the vowel sound in that second word.

First off, I was not just talking about you and second off, you are still missing my point. It wasn't about him being harsh or critical. I don't care about that. It was about double standards as for example my direct opinion which was expressed in a similar way was criticised for being negative. So to me it feels like you are okay with him showing behaviour that many of us have shown in regards to the talent shows, just because he is Mika and he can do no wrong, whereas you disagree with my opinion which makes it automatically negative. Not just you but more people.

 

A native Italian speaker said it sounded harsh yes non-native speakers come up with reasons why it wasn't harsh or why he said it this way blabla. That is making up excuses for either him or yourself. And as I mentioned before, I prefer him being direct over politically correct.

I don't see how it's the same situation. Contestants on these shows are literally signing up to be judged. People don't come to fan forums to be judged.
