  1. Okay, so take us through a day in the life of the boss :mf_rosetinted:

    Okay. :mf_rosetinted:

Step One: wake up. Usually around 11:30.

Step Two: go the heck back to bed. BECAUSE YOU CAN.

Step Three: Wake up. Usually anywhere from 2-4.

Step Four: Proceed to turn on your computer, in bed, without even so much as turning the lights on, and screw around on the internet.

Step Five: Eventually get out of bed, go down stairs, and screw around on the internet.

Step Six: Remember to eat something. This is important. You do not want to forget. The boss forgets easily.

Step Seven: Your family gets home from work. Pretend you have done something interesting. Eat with them and give your opinion on the ebola outbreak. They think you have learnt something. They are not very bright.

Step Eight: Eventually, everyone will go to bed. They will also ask you to come to bed. Do not. It is the inherent responsibility of the boss to stay downstairs and pet the cats while googling murder tactics or some other only slightly relevant information.

Step Nine: Now that everyone's asleep, you remember to eat. Eat everything. Leave all wrappers on the dresser, because waking up in the middle of the night to toss them is essential.

Step Ten: At like 4 am, you can go to sleep. You were tired at maybe 1:30, but that wasn't sufficiently late. Repeat.

    :mikacool:

  2. It is indeed. I adored RW much of my life, through thick and thin.

I had a Mork t-shirt in junior high that was him from the waist up, and I liked to tuck it into my jeans and make it look like he was wearing my jeans. I went to my dad and I said "Look! Mork is in my pants!" My dad replied, "You might want to rephrase that if you tell anybody else... " I, of course, had no idea what he was talking about... :naughty:

Ha! Lemme just say that that is hilarious. :lmfao: My dad is a huge Mork & Mindy fan, and I think that show was my first real introduction to RW. I used to love Bicentennial Man too when I was younger. :naughty: It sucks that someone who brought so much laughter to peoples' lives had to leave us in such a way.

  3. Okay, you asked for it!

I don't know how much of the last few weeks' events I told you before, but things have been pretty stressful and all around crap lately. I'm technically homeless right now, couch surfing at my dad's because I haven't much income when I'm not temping, and work is dwindling down at my current assignment...

Well! A declined FB event invitation that I posted led to someone encouraging me to come - someone who then looked at my jewelry that I make, and I am now jewelry designer/director for two local modeling shoots later this month! And connecting with her led to some other leads for potential shop opps here... so I'm pretty hopeful.

And I made it official this weekend - I have a new place to live, still going to be mostly broke, but hopefully things will change for the better with all this new infusion of good stuff.

Congratulations! My situation isn't the best either, so I know how it feels to have something like that happen. I'm so glad for you :huglove::teehee: And your jewelry is lovely, by the way. :teehee:

  4. Ooh, if a grammar book tells you that then it's definitely correct. Thanks for pointing that out. I thought the order of pronouns could be decided by the person using them.

Although there is a possibility there are different rules for British English, since that book seems to be referring to American English. :dunno: Thanks for letting me know.

I think your mum has the right idea - it would simplify matters. :aah:

Who knew our language was so confusing? :mf_rosetinted:

I would imagine it's the same for British English, but I couldn't know for sure since I've never actually been outside of the US. :aah: Yeah, I think being a native speaker you speak so intuitively that you only realize how weird things are when you're trying to explain them. :naughty:

  5. There is often a misconception with regards to pronoun usage amongst native speakers. Children are often told that they must refer to the other person before themselves, and always refer to themselves with the pronoun "I". It's for this reason that "she and I" might sound better than "me and her" to even a native speaker. However, I think this is incorrect.

But I could be wrong. :dunno:

By the way, I love your siggy. :teehee:

I'm about 99% certain that the bit about referring to another person before yourself is actually grammatically correct, though, rather than a simple misconception. This is what I learned in school from a young age, and indeed is something that is still being told to us even in high school. And the last I checked, it's also the correct way according to the American Heritage Guide to Contemporary Usage and Style :wink2: Thanks! :naughty:

Edit: Also, I've just asked my mom, and she says it would also be better to find a way to use "we" or "us" instead of "she and I" because changing that sentence structure would probably sound a lot more natural. Obviously you don't need to get that far into it, though.

  6. It should be "me and her", because those are the pronouns you use when you are referring to the object(s) of a sentence. If you can't decide which to use, try using just one pronoun at a time. E.g.

Why did everybody do something but she?" isn't right, and neither is Why did everybody do something but I?"

But Why did everybody do something but her?" is right, and so is Why did everybody do something but me?"

So the correct sentence would be "Why did everybody do something but me and her?"

To answer your other question, I'm not sure of the rules regarding "only" and "just", but I think they're often interchangeable. I could only tell you which to use when given context. :dunno:

I'm not sure about the only vs. just either, particularly out of context, but if what I've learned was correct, wouldn't it be more of

Why did everybody do something but she and I? :aah:

  7. Sorry I haven't been here :mf_rosetinted:

Love the NEW thread btw :das:

    Thank you :das:

And Grace about the name changing thing, people find it boring to have the same name as pretty much the rest of the population in Sweden, that's why people are giving up on the traditional last names and give themselves new more, in their opinion, interesting names :aah:

Well that IS boring. But... but... :aah:

I probably wouldn't change my last name. Buuuuuut to each their own I suppose. :naughty:
