  1. Same here, I've never been to a MIKA concert, although I've known about him and enjoyed his music for years. From what I've read on other threads so far, seating is nominal but people often end up dancing anyway. I'm not sure how much things have changed since COVID, but I'm hoping it'll be a happy medium - some staying in place, some moving to the music, as I've witnessed at other, smaller shows with seats. Whatever it ends up being, I'm looking forward to seeing him in Montreal for the first time in April, and I hope you get to as well!
  2. @StarlightAhh, thank you! I liked that part too, especially after finding out that there was a conversation thread devoted specifically to Mika's teeth. Me personally, I'm all about the hair, and the music, and his personality in general. There's something for everyone!
  3. That's amazing! Love that there so many creative fans out there. Great minds think alike.
  4. LOL, "Mika-fied." Sounds like more fun than some of your average holiday shenanigans, for sure! I love the idea of reworking Christmas songs too... * puts on thinking cap *
  5. @holdingyourdrink Thank you! I was writing something else but then this idea popped into my head and I had to post. Glad people seem to be enjoying it.
  6. I've always loved the Advent tradition (it comes from attending Waldorf/Steiner schools as a child). I haven't done the calendar or the chocolate in a while though. Pretty much my only nod to Advent these days is making my own wreath, with candles, miniature animals, crystals, flowers, rainbows, whatever I feel like putting into it. I also love celebrating all 12 days of Christmas, which takes the pressure off just having the one day. On a related but slightly different note, I just posted a Christmas/Mika mashup poem under General Chin-Wagging. If it makes more sense to add it to this thread, by all means do so. I'm brand-new to this site and still getting used to general posting etiquette. So far I'm loving all the comments I've been reading - what a great community Mika seems to have built up over the years.
  7. Hey fellow Mika fans! As a newly joined member who missed the deadline for the Christmas card exchange, I wanted to offer something for the holidays. Something that may ring familiar to most, or at least those of you who grew up hearing the Night Before Christmas poem. I tried to work in as many familiar Mika themes as I could, but if anyone has better revisions of lines to offer, I'd love to hear them! Anyway, here's what I've come up with so far: ’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the land Not a creature was stirring, except Mika’s fans. The jackets were hung in the closet with care In hopes that Mika soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of lollipops danced in their heads, And me in my satin, and you in your taff, Had just settled down for a good belly-laugh, When out on the lawn there arose such a shout, I sprang up to see what the fuss was about. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to fans waiting below, When what to my wondering eyes should appear But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, With a fabulous driver, so lively and sleek, I knew in a moment it must be our Mik. More feisty and flashy than unicorns they came, And he smiled, and sang, and called them by name: “Now Grace! Now Kelly! Now Karen and Lola! On Georgia! On April! Emily and Paloma! To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Now dash away! Flash away! Smash away all!” As raindrops before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the deer they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and a Toy Boy too. And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand and was turning around Down the chimney came Mika with a bound. He was dressed all in stardust, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all sparkling, with no sign of soot. A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like an angel just opening his pack. His eyes, how they twinkled! His dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his lips colored berry. His sweet little teeth poked out like a bunny’s, And his curly brown hair was right on the money. An umbrella’s cane he held tight in one hand, And the spokes of it encircled his head like a fan. His face it was chiseled, even more so his abs That flexed when he danced (not to mention the dabs!). He was lean and svelte, a dear, charming guy, And I squealed when I saw him, not going to lie. A wink of his eye and a toss of his head, Gave me reason to believe I had nothing to dread. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work, And filled all the stockings, then turned with a smirk, And laying a finger aside of his nose, He gave another wink, up the chimney he rose. He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew like the down of a thistle. But I heard him exclaim, before breaching the blue, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all, I see you!" That's all folks! Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I wish you a safe, cozy, and relaxing holiday season this year. And I look forward to meeting some of you at my first Mika concert in Montreal, once spring is just around the corner!
  8. I bought presale tix to the Montreal show, but I'm dithering over whether to get Boston tix as a backup plan, in case it's difficult to get across the border between the US and Canada next April. With this pandemic being so unpredictable, who knows where we'll be at by then... I don't know about general admission either, especially for my first Mika concert experience. Has anyone been to the Roadrunner venue before? What's it like? Do they tend to pack people in like sardines, or is it fairly spacious?
  9. OMG, already such a warm welcome! Where have you been all my life?? Seriously, it's been a long couple of years of minimal people contact for me, as most of my family and friends live far away. I've only just recently started going back to indoor events, and none of them as big as at Centre Bell in Montreal, but hey, we've got to come out of this pandemic somehow. What better way to celebrate being alive at the return of spring than with Mika at the helm? (In case you can't tell, I'm loving the emoji GIFs here )
  10. I just got my tickets for Montreal, hurray! Thanks for the tip.
  11. I'm thrilled at the idea of seeing MIKA live for the first time, but when I try to get presale tix for either the Boston or Montreal shows, I run into dead ends (Boston page not allowing access, Montreal page not accepting US credit card info). Help! I can try again tomorrow, or maybe through mikasounds, just wanted to put that out there in case anyone else is having the same problem...
  12. ...I've known about Mika since 2007, when I was studying abroad in France and heard his song 'Relax, Take It Easy' being played EVERYWHERE. I subsequently listened to his first album and eventually bought a copy, wherein I was delighted to discover the exquisitely tragic bonus song at the end of the final track. He performed on the West Coast a few times while I finished out my college years there, but to my (present) shame I never made an effort to see him live. Now, after rediscovering him during the pandemic and acquiring pretty much every album he's come out with since, I'm very excited at the prospect of finally seeing him live in 2022, barring any further pandemic-related catastrophes. He represents to me a glorious acceptance of the pantheon of gender and self-expression, not to mention that his songs mirror pretty much every mood I've experienced as a teenager and young adult, and I often enjoy revisiting those experiences by writing out stories to the soundtrack of his music. If you ask me which songs I like best, I'd have a hard time coming up with a definitive answer, but Blame It On The Girls, I See You, Blue, Ready To Call This Love, and Sanremo would probably be among my top faves. I love Ice Cream and Elle me dit too, but more for dancing purposes than for singing along. And Underwater is just TOO MUCH (which of course means it's amazing). This is just a snapshot of why I'm joining the club now, after all these years (plus it means I get to preorder tix!). Also, I think it's beyond cool that he can communicate in multiple languages, both through speech and music. That's quite enough fan-raving from me, and probably the last time I'll post for a while... it would be lovely to meet other fans at one of his concerts someday!
