Na jaren van hard werken en nog steeds niet dat gewenste platencontract, besloot hij een nummer te schrijven om zijn frustraties op de muziekindustrie te uiten. Dat juist dit nummer zijn grote doorbraak zou worden… MIKA heet deze artiest met een eigen sound, eigenzinnige kledij en gedrag wat hij omschrijft als ‘100x zichzelf’. Juist deze factoren maken hem tot waar hij nu staat: een wereldster in wording. Met zijn debuutalbum Life in cartoon motion en zijn eerste tournee, is hij bezig met het creëren van wereldwijde bekendheid! Deze topmuzikant werd geboren in 1983 in Beiroet, Libanon onder de naam Mica Penniman. Al snel verhuisde hij met zijn ouders naar Parijs, waar hij woonde tot zijn negende levensjaar. Toen vertrokken ze naar Londen. Om zijn internationale karakter compleet te maken: zijn moeder komt uit Libanon en zijn vader is van Amerikaanse afkomst. Als artiest besloot hij de c in zijn naam te veranderen in een k omdat het nogal vaak verkeerd werd uitgesproken. In Londen aangekomen, had hij een verschrikkelijke tijd op school. Hij vergat hoe hij moest lezen en schrijven en praatte een tijd niet. Hierop werd hij voor een half jaar geschorst, om zichzelf te hervinden. In deze tijd ontdekte hij dat songwriting zijn roeping was. De muziek zorgde dat hij weer met beide benen op de grond kwam. Met de hulp van een angstaanjagende Russische zangleraar wist hij zich zo te ontwikkelen dat hij overal wat baantjes kreeg. Het virtuoze pianospel heeft hij zichzelf eigen gemaakt. Na deze jaren van harde arbeid kwam hij bij een platenmaatschappij terecht. Hij wilde geld in ruil voor zo min mogelijk bemoeienis. Na een aantal keren te zijn afgewezen schreef hij het nummer Grace Kelly uit frustratie op de muziekindustrie. Deze single bracht hem al wat wereldwijde bekendheid. Begin 2007 kwam daarop zijn debuutalbm Life in cartoon motion in de schappen. De nummers die prijken op zijn cd zijn vrolijk, maar hebben ook een diepere betekenis. Met zijn stembereik van vier octaven, vrolijke nummers met inhoud, virtuoze pianospel, karakter en doorzettingsvermogen heeft MIKA alles in huis om een groot muzikant te worden en te blijven. Hij werd reeds door 130 muziekkenners via de BBC gepeild als meest interessante nieuwkomer in het vak.
