Donating Blood

I know you probably don't care, but here's my recent blood-related adventure.

So, my school was having a blood drive, in which I could participate, if I had parent/guardian permission. So, I asked my LA teacher about it and he said they were coming in to talk to us that day. Well, they girls talking to us did a terrible job and didn't tell us where to take the forms. So I got my mom to sign it and ask my LA teacher where to take it(they talked to us through the LA classes). The next day, he found out for me that I needed to take it a certain office, so the next morning I took it down to the office to turn in it, to find out that the girls should have had me sign up when they came to talk to me, but I signed up then so it was all good. I was supposed to get a blood drive excuse slip the next day, but do to the fact my mom used a blue flare pen instead of a blue or black pen, they didn't send one because they wanted to ask the blood drive people if they could accept it, but I didn't know this and went around to ask of my teachers I could find to see if they had a sheet for me, but they didn't. So I went down at lunch, read the info, and they couldn't find my form. Finally, they realized it was in the pile of forms to ask the red cross people about, so she went and asked them for me, and found out that it would be okay if they made a copy if it. So she went and made a copy while I filled out the paperwork and went in to wait for an hour or so until they called me up for the blood test and interrogation session. The woman was incredibly nice, but she had a really soft voice, and so I had ask her to repeat questions a lot, including the really awkward ones(you can probably guess...). So I survived the finger prick and got in line to actually donate. I sit in the chair and the lady preps me, then puts the needle in my arm. She hooks me up to the bag, then starts fiddling with it and calls another lady over. She is muttering in hushed tones, and I start freaking mentally. Then, they call another lady over, who starts pushing on the needle to try and declot my blood. I start getting nauscious, and they lean me back, put a towel on my neck and head give me ice to chew. They finally decide that its clotting too much, and they can't fix it, so they stop it and take the needle out. At this point, I start crying because I managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of defeat. Now my arm is disgusting and sore and I got dizzy later when my blood sugar dropped.

Despite this, I'm still planning donating next time.:mf_rosetinted:

Me too... and of course they had to show all those depressing videos of the lives that are saved by donating blood(I know its happy that they are helped, but you think about all the others who still need it and...) to get people to participate, and i was sad because i couldn't help the little baby who needed blood... poor little baby!

I'm glad ya'lls went all smoothly!

Our school does blood drives every year. I've never done it. Last year I was too young and this year I was just to scared because I heard about people passing out and stuff. I kind of want to next year though.

oh, honey, don't worry about passing out, you'll be fine... they've got people who just walk around the thing making sure people who are a touch paler than when they came in are okay, and they watch you the whole time to make sure your safe...

I hope you do it next year!:punk:

Lolli-left you made me sick with the story...but i give blood every 45 days..i think it is....i get faint all the timy because I'm so tiny...i have only filled up an entire pint once...i even begged them to keep me hooked up before because i was so close! they just laughed and told me it was against their policy...couldn't have people fainting on their tables...super funny.

i used to smoke at the time..what a head rush after giving blood..haha...i mean...smoking kills!
