On Saturday 19th September, Mika will broadcast a very intimate show to raise money for the people of Beirut. The show will be streamed across 4 different time zones on YouTube and tickets are for sale via Ticketmaster.
The terrible explosion in Beirut’s port killed hundreds, injured thousands and left many more homeless. Money raised will be split between two charities that are doing incredible work on the ground in Beirut, focusing on emergency response and rebuilding the city – Red Cross Lebanon and Save The Children Lebanon.
Mika says “Beirut has been through so much and the resilience and strength the Lebanese people is undeniable. It is the place of my birth, a part of me and will always be in my heart. I Love Beirut.”
Tickets can be purchased here for all 4 time zones.
Extra donations are welcome at Mika’s GoFundMe campaign.

Today Mika announces his new album and releases the brand new single Ice Cream!
    Speaking about it Mika said:
“I’m excited to announce that my brand new album ‘My Name is Michael Holbrook’ will be released on October 4th!! You can pre-order it now to receive my new single ‘Ice Cream’ straight away as well as access to pre-sale tickets for my tour!
Ice Cream was written on a day of extreme heat in August. It was the last few weeks of writing for the album; a writing period that lasted two years. Through the writing I had confronted personal, serious and at times painful issues. By the end of it I felt lighter and freer. This was one of the last songs written for the new album. The song is a daydream fantasy. Like a heat mirage, and makes me feel like anything is possible. Summer and heat provokes that. The surreal dreamlike state of endless heat soaked afternoons. Pearls of sweat, dreams of summer flings, the smell and feel of a car in summer when you first step into it, the smell of a plastic parasol baking in the sun. The mix of possibility and lazy frustration. Senses and daydreams on the run.”
Ice Cream is available everywhere now.

Mika has just released his music video for Sanremo from the new album ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’! Sanremo is out now and available to watch in full on YouTube here.

    Director’s Statement:
“We set this film in the late 1950’s to remind ourselves of an era when homosexuality if not illegal was socially unacceptable, a time of discrimination and persecution.
For Mika’s imprisoned character the lyrics become a hymn to feeling in an unfeeling world. ‘San Remo’ represents his utopian dream, a fictional place of liberation and transcendence. ‘Over there you shine like a star. Doesn’t even matter who you are…’
Yet fifty years later we sadly have to be aware that for many peoples in the world ‘San Remo’ still remains a dream. So I and we must wholeheartedly respect Mika himself for choosing to make this film with such eloquence and courage.
To be of value to someone other than oneself.”

‘To get to a place where you could love anything you chose, not to need permission for desire, well now that was freedom’ -Toni Morrison

Today Mika releases his long-awaited fifth album, the 13-track ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’! Accompanying the worldwide release is the brand new music video for Sanremo, also out today.

“The day has finally come! I’ve loved sharing my new songs and music videos with you over the last few months, but it has all been leading up to this. It feels wonderful to announce that my brand new album ‘My Name Is Michael Holbrook’ is out now! Listen, love, share and let me know what you think!”

Speaking on the Album, MIKA explains: “I wanted to find out where I came from and why my legal name is Michael Penniman Holbrook Junior,” says MIKA. “I had the title of the album before I had the album. It was a manifesto. It was a challenge for me.” Seeking to uncover the identity of MIKA before ‘Grace Kelly’, he found a profound sense of joy at his discovery. “It was quite liberating. I freed myself of the idea of MIKA.” With My Name Is Michael Holbrook, MIKA intimately shares his whole self with his audience. All he asks now is for us to do the same: “We don’t need perfection. We need character, we need emotion. To feel free to express yourself,” says MIKA. “Express yourself, you won’t be judged here.”

It’s less than a month until Mika releases his new album and today he releases the next track called ‘Sanremo’.

Written by MIKA and produced by Marc Crew and Dan Priddy (Bastille, Rag’n’Bone Man), ‘Sanremo’ embodies the brilliance of the summer and provides perfect closure to the season. A cool mix of tropical sounds groove under the singer’s simmering vocals, invoking holiday imagery with the effervescence of sipping soda and soaking up sunshine. “Why don’t we go / Dancing in Sanremo?” is MIKA’s tempting offer.

Mika’s releases his brand new video for Tiny Love. Available to watch now on YouTube HERE.

    Of the video Mika said:
“I knew I needed a different sort of director for this video, more art and film based. W.I.Z. was the perfect choice. From every detail in pre-production, to the art direction and casting, he has one thing in mind; to illustrate a complex narrative that he has written in his head. I am very proud of what he has made. An emotionally epic video for a song full of heart and love. Huge and Tiny at the same time.”

Of the track, MIKA says, “The most important thing in the world is the love we have for those around us, the love others offer us and the love we have for ourselves. That love can feel so massive and yet at the same time it’s so tiny and imperceivable to others. This song is a conscious decision to provoke that emotion.”
