I don't know you and I don't know laura* (I suppose she's the friend you're referring to), so the last thing in my mind when I VM-ed her was to "pick on her". I just found some of her posts offensive and, since she's italian and lives in my town, I tried to explain to her what my point was.

Once again, when I or any of the other people who wrote in that thread used the word "gay", it wasn't associated to MIKA's personal life in any way. I (and they, I think) can't imagine anything gayer than a 25 year old man in his underwear dancing in his room the way we see in the video. And that's the character Sire is portraying in the Jonas Åkerlund directed videoclip.

I'm also much more than the tall, average-looking gay guy with the longish nose and brown hair. But since I live in a world where, like it or not, our difference isn't completely accepted yet, I like to make it loud and clear.

I thank you very much for trying and explain your point to me, however I find a little preposterous for you to teach me (a 100% gay male who's very confident about his sexuality) about LGBT lexicon and culture.

There's nothing wrong or demeaning for you to worship a singer who's homosexual or portrays homosexual characters in his songs or videoclips.

Don't get so obsessed if other fans use the word "gay" to define MIKA or his body of work. They mean no harm, they use that three-letter word as a compliment.

Leggendo alcune delle cose che scrivi, mi sembra purtroppo che tu abbia le idee un po' confuse. Cercherò di spiegarti quello che io e altre persone intendiamo.

L'aggettivo/etichetta "gay", che tu ritieni evidentemente dispregiativo, non ha affatto un valore negativo per la gente che lo ha utilizzato su questo forum.

Lo è per molta gente, purtroppo, ma per fortuna non qui.

Questo aggettivo non pertiene necessariamente la sfera sentimentale o sessuale, quanto piuttosto un certo tipo di sensibilità, che MIKA non manca occasione per esibire in maniera sempre meno velata.

Per esempio, cerca di pensare a un tuo amico eterosessuale che balla in mutande nella sua camera da letto. Ci riesci? Io sto pensando a un mio collega che è il ritratto dell'eterosessualità e lo immagino che balla "Womanizer" coi boxer a righe. La prima cosa che mi verrebbe in mente di dirgli è: "Quanto sei gay!"

Ora, io sono sicurissimo che se ti piace MIKA, le sue canzoni, i suoi video, le sue performance, tu non possa essere nè omofoba, nè tanto stretta di vedute. Vorrei semplicemente invitarti a riflettere.
