  1. yeah he's still in!!! Go to http://www.brits.co.uk and select Vote and u can vote...oh wait no it just closed at 5.... but all the info is on the site. Two more are going to be knocked out and then they'll open the final round of voting, but that's only by telephone.

I just went to the site. It stated who will be performing there, along with info. It says that Mika has two nominations. I thought it was four. Have they changed that?

  2. OMG  ....are you telling me something????

    I don't want to know.....

    SNOW

    1. because I have NEVER seen it :blush-anim-cl:

    2. ...as long as it does NOT delay or cancel flights :sneaky2:

You have never seen snow? Unfortunately, when there's snow on the ground in NYC, it has a layer of black dirt on top of it. Well, I was in the pouring rain for the free concert the day of GMA. I find it colder when it rains. Maybe you'll get to see a little of it fall. Just enough to see, but not enough to hinder our movements.

  3. Official Plans......

We are meeting at Boston Market

    885 10th Ave. @ 11:00 AM *I will be there earlier*

From there we will play it by ear, as there is nothing but Car Dealerships and an Empty Parking Lot near the venue.

Why are we meeting there? What avenues are around it? Pax and other similar places are very inexpensive, but you can get good, fresh, quality food. It's fast food that's healthy. Fresh breakfast, wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, muffins,...

  4. -shudders- i dont even want to think about that

    oh great too late...:crybaby:

i just realized that i dont have any of the details ironed out about the concert

i dont know if im going by train or by parent-driving then leaving

i have 2 extra tickets b/c i want to go w/ my friends but i have only one other truly obssesed fan who may not even be able to come if there is no adult which there probably wont be because my sister decided on not going so now i have no idea whats going on and argggggh...

I'm not sure if I'm going yet...hope so. However, I have 3 extra tics. I am down to one friend who might go. I might post on the extra ticket thread if I have extra tics.

  6.

Hell no, your watching to much T.V

And there aren't to many homeless ppl since, what...the early 90's?

They best places in N.Y have to be, in my opinion...The Village, The Garden, Central Park (Visit Lennons memorial and cry...hard), Union Square, Alpha Vill and Grand Central

Forget Time Square...so freakin packed with tourists and naked cowboys

  8. I can see why most think that Mika is a transcendentalist. However, he also seems to embrace his religion. On the DVD, just before they went on stage, Mika crossed himself. There may be a spectrum of thought on transcendentalism. I hold to some transcendental beliefs, but not all. There are variations of organized religion...different "sects" of Protestants, Jews,... Maybe transcendentalism is just part of his overall belief.

  9. I just got my Mika dvd- (I've pre-ordered it last week) and I cant stop smiling, it's so gorgeous! It's not your usual dvd but a book with lovely design and photographs with the dvd attached on the back cover - the best thing for me is the previously unseen documentary (they went shopping in Milan - how did I envy them!) and of course the extras are awesome! All the videos, plus live & acoustic, and the gig itself - AMAZING!

So go on and treat yourself to an early Xmas present!:biggrin2: Paula:)

I can't wait. I pre-ordered through Amazon, and it has been shipped out. I will have it either Wed. or Thurs.

  10. A bit of a wait, but we'll take all we can get here. :-) Sorry if it was posted, I've been out of the loop and there are so many EMA threads.

  11. I've just watched this for the 6th time. and it just never gets old

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZW6MyktbSA

    (thanks for posting FMBM:thumb_yello: )

    it's just AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!

my absolute favorite live performance of 'Holy Johnny'

i love the 'Oh BABY HE'S FINE!" in the beginning [referring to Johnny] (@ 00:28)

and the group 'AMEN!!' (@ 1:36)

and the 'and HE KEEPS ON PRAYIN', MAMA!!" at the end.:lmfao:

    i loooooove it.:punk:

    I can't get mine to play. :(

  12. Mika seems to speak pieces of quite a few languages - French, Italian, and Spanish, at least.

To native speakers of these languages - how does he sound to you? As in, how is his pronunciation, sentence structure, and choice of words? Is it obvious that these aren't his native languages? Does he speak them with an English accent?

To native English speakers - when he speaks, does he sound more "American" or more "British" to you? To my Canadian ears he sounds distinctly British, although not nearly as thick as, say Lily Allen.

    I'm a language nerd. :mf_rosetinted:

Lily Allen sounds like she has a Cockney accent. To my US ear, Mika sounds like he has an English accent. However, I am not very familiar with the various types. I know that Freddie had a colonial accent, from what I read.

  13. I've never seen that show, but they really played Lollipop? That's awesome news...any publicity for Mika is great in the US!

I went to a record store, and they actually had Mika's CD. AND, quite a few were sold. Prior to this, I had been saying, "where are the Mika CD's," and when I was told that they didn't have them, I would say, "you have got to be kidding. He's the biggest singer/songwriter anywhere now." When they did have several in an obscure place, I would change the location. Also, when I didn't see any and they had some, I bought one. I gave out a lot as gifts. :)

  14. on the german amazon website you can watch a preview video of the mika dvd: http://www.amazon.de/Mika-Live-Cartoon-Motion-Digipack/dp/B000WC8BLG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10/028-5517674-9080514?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1192717407&sr=8-10

sorry if it's been posted in one of the dvd threads already, but i haven't seen it on here yet.

interesting thing, according to amazon.de the dvd will be released on nov 9 in germany, whereas on amazon.co.uk it's nov 12... don't really think this is true, normally germany is weeks behind with the new releases!

anyway, i absolutely love that video, can't wait for the dvd!! :woot_jump:

Thank you soooo much. :) I am so excited. Do you know when it will be released in the US?

  15.

I love Rufus. I haven't seen him live...yet. I found this article through google, and I thought I would share it. He's amazing.

Rufus sparkles amid stage lights with camp cabaret

    Rufus Wainwright

On a mild autumn night, a thousand people sit in absolute hush as a fully grown man limbers up to the microphone in an Austrian boy's outfit accessorised with a diamante necklace and bracelet that sparkles off the stage lights. It can only be Rufus Wainwright.

Wainwright is notorious for being unashamedly camp, to the point that he recreated Judy Garland's famous 1961 Carnegie Hall performance for a series of shows last year. And while on record the only clue of his sexuality is in his touching lyrics, which show a man fighting back against an unjust world, his performances are legendary as a celebration of flamboyance.

But he begins the night impressively and simply with half an hour of piano ballads. When the seven-strong band join him for 'Tier Garden', from his fifth and latest album 'Release The Stars', the show evolves into a musical without the plot -- though he does attempt to thread the songs together.

Just as tunes underline the emotion in musicals, so the lighting reinforces the mood of Rufus's show and it's meticulously thought out. When guitar solos begin, the colour that drenches the players becomes brighter. And when the horn section has its chance to shine, it's a literal accolade. But the spotlight always remains on Rufus. In true theatrical style, he's found singing with perfect diction and constantly raising his arms slowly to the ceiling as his voice follows.

But his finale is so absurd that it's clear he doesn't take himself too seriously: dressed in a dinner jacket, stockings and stilettos, he belts out a fabulous rendition of 'Get Happy' as his backing band fall out of their element and turn into a perfectly choreographed crew of tuxedoed men dancing awkwardly around him.

It's not hard to see why he gets three standing ovations before his set is even finished. As far as indie camp cabaret is concerned, the market's cornered.
