Pam, I didn't *just* ask people here -- I wanted someone who was totally

objective. One of my best friends is French,

and not on this forum, so I sent her the posts in question and asked

her to translate for me and tell me whether anything was offensive

in them. She phoned me with her answer, so I don't have

any text to paste here, but

according to her, the posts contain nothing offensive at all. And the word

that you are questioning? She claims she has never heard it used the way

you say Niki used it. Who do I believe? I believe my friend who has

no reason to lie to me in this matter.

 

So yes, I do still think that you are too sensitive in this case.

 

And, for the record, someone saying that they don't like you

or that something you said upset

or annoyed them is not against the rules. That's not the same as them

attacking you or calling you crazy.

 

 

 

And so you answer with an insult, and then it all escalates? I don't

believe that's the right answer. In my opinion,

there's no shame in walking away from an argument. It's not a sign

of weakness. I've had plenty of people say similar things to me, in

real life and here on the forum, and I survived, even though I

didn't answer them back. You just take the high road and move on.

I think that everyone who has suggested that it's time to move on

from this episode is correct, before it escalates further and people

end up saying things that they'll regret later.

i have two friends who are grammarians, one is a linguist and 2 are writers, emerald and nicki referred to me as a con/ne (you can translate litterally by cun.t) and not in a friendly way in this case, everyone agrees...chopotte told me to take a treatment, referring to mental illness...which to me is something above any kind of insult, but yes maybe im sensitive. especially towards jokes about mental illness since i really dont think its funny and sensitive towards any kind of injustice.

now this is really closed, i cant stay here any longer being bullied when i just basically came to give a linguistic opinion on something. this is all very sad and abnormal for such a kind of forum.

I don't get it... I would get an infraction for having said "FYI" after your outburst and your lovely post (quoting me) in the dvd thread? Even if I joked about the day you started creating a drama (just like you're doing now) claiming everywhere Violet_sky had offended you and deserved a ban for having said "FYI", it wasn't rude, it wasn't offensive, it was a joke. Is it my fault if Emerald doesnt like you because you've been nasty in the past? I think not. Maybe you should start to question your behaviour before feeling insulted by everything and everyone and complaining some people here don't like you... And if you´re reporting that you have (allegedlly) be insulted, you´re not doing yourself any favours, because i can read more insults coming from you than the "conne" word that you said that it was against you (i don´t see your name in there, btw, but it´s your call, not mine!).

And you´re intented to use the "C" word in a disrespectful way. Sometimes it´s not the word you´re using. It´s the way you´re using it.

Pam, you first called me a not so clever donkey in the DVD thread. If you wanted to tell me you didn't share my view on linguistics, fair enough, but there are ways to say things. Secondly, I added FYI wasn't rude since you had a very bad go at V_S when she said that to you and you felt terribly insulted by it.

I then made a general comment in the French thread about people acting like trolls. You took it personally ? Fair enough, I'll apologize then. But don't twist my words saying I used a bad word. You know very well CON is a word French speaking people use 10 times a day. It's nothing anatomical, you're being confused by an homonym. The adjective I used is a mere abbreviation of "connard" which means "fool" and that we use in a very common and unoffensive way, you know this.

 

In the last couple of weeks you told me things like "I'd rather die than to be like you" blabla, you had the same kind words for several members, and now you're saying you never make personally attacks? I'm afraid noone can believe you anymore.

 

I will now ask you and Chopotte to stop insulting each other.

i think you are being paranoid with the linguistic post, i (if you reread it, was talking about people who are mad about not making a single orthography fault,and i called them mean donkey because othography is called the science of the donkey....

as for con and conne, we obviously dont agree once more, a debate was going on like 2 weeks ago on a linguistic place about the use of the insult con and another word that i cant mention here, even in french, a word usually given to gay people but that people use very commonly like they use con very commonly too...it was about making a law for the last one etc. but the whole thing would be too long and no one cares here anyway,,,all i am saying is that we again dont agree...when emerald told you what she told you you just commented it as it was well heard that it was the insult and not just some random words...

as for chopotte, it has nothing to do with you, she insulted me, i commented her, nothing more.

Pam, I was going to PM you, but decided instead that I'm going to answer you here, even though this really isn't the best thread for it.

 

 

 

I've looked into this a bit and there are a couple things I want to point out.

 

At no time in the thread you're alluding to did Niki27 identify any

individuals that she may have been referring to. She could have been

talking about anyone. How do you know she was talking about

you? A casual reader would not be able to identify you

as the object of her remarks, unless you identify yourself as such.

 

Also, I've asked several people who are fluent in French and have run

the word that you're objecting to through a couple different online

translators and no one and nothing have come up with your

interpretation of the word as it's most common meaning. You have to

really dig in some dictionaries to come up with your translation of the

word as the vulgarity you mention. I mean, it's there, but it's certainly

not the most common usage of the word.

 

In short, I think you're being too sensitive here. Just because someone

pointed out a comment made in a thread that you don't normally visit,

and you *think* that maybe someone has insulted you isn't really

something you should get that upset over. There are too many

"maybe" here. I hope you understand what I mean.

well, i dont no if i can explain you here, LMAO!!!! i mean , well, okay, lol...actually CUN.T in french is CON or CONNE if its a girl , a con is basically a chicken organ of the woman but it became an insult, chatte, lol is something else that CUN:T, (chatte is a pussy and it means the same in the first sense or the second sense, it can be the animal or the chicken nickname, just like in english ) cun.t is internal and much more agressive and its con in french...voilà, not very clear though, lol...sorry
