  1. @amandapalmer if you can, say hi to @Mikasounds for me. (And Cherisse, his drummer, who is lovely.) Also I love you. about 10 hours ago from web in reply to amandapalmer --From Neil Gaiman's twitter (Amanda Palmer is Neil Gaiman's fiancee.) Given that Neil Gaiman is one of Mika's idols (or whatever you'd call someone you would invite to your dinner/tea party) (am I hallucinating that interview here?)... well, this is a big deal.
  2. Thank you for posting. Interestingly... he is decked out in orange--that color that he supposedly finds atrocious. Lies, damn lies.
  3. What can I say besides... absolutely. Completely. Definitely. I still can't believe how amazing NY was. CRAZY! And I didn't even get to bond with the MFCers, which I imagine would have been wonderful, although it definitely would have made the PMD I'm suffering from even worse. PMD has wrecked my schoolwork... but um who cares really? My reaction: order Mika things and track them obsessively online. Yet somehow I don't think this is the proper solution.
  4. Welcome to the MFC!! :huglove:

  5. Since I got a PM saying I should introduce myself, well, I thought I should introduce myself. I'm based in NYC for the moment and mostly made this account to talk about meeting Mika this past weekend in NYC (See more here, if you want: http://www.mikafanclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2596463&postcount=154). I went to his concert later on--my first in general--and was blown away. I've been kind of obsessed for a few years now, and didn't realize so many (and so different) people loved him too. Surprising and incredible. Anyway, I've lurked quite a lot on these forums and benefited from all your scoops and lyrics, so thought I should say hey--so hey!
  6. Thanks for such a warm reception everyone. It means a lot =) I'm afraid I want to preserve a bit of my anonymity online so sorry to AnnaMariaPetra, but I won't be posting my picture with Mika!
  7. Hey sweetie!!! welcome to the MFC!!! :flowers2::huglove: xoxo RG

  8. Hi there-- I read the forum occasionally and when I saw this thread, I thought I owed it to MFC and your lyric-hunting skills to post about my hour with Mika at the candy bar. Let's start... there were about three winners, who each brought 3-5 people with them, which explains why there weren't just 6 people hanging with Mika (although that would have been amazing). And to all those doubters, we all love Mika. A lot. A lot a lot. Well, he came 30-40 minutes late, but I get the impression from his videos that he tends to do this a little bit... but no matter. We had candy in front of us to keep up occupied, as well as releases to sign. Sourpatch watermelon! How can you go wrong? A few girls started screaming and rushed to the window (we were in a section on the second floor cordoned off from the rest of the store) when we realized he was literally right on the sidewalk below us. Oh--might I mention that we were almost all girls? I think there were about two guys in the entire winners/friends group. Ha! Allison or another announces it's just about 30 seconds until we actually get to meet him... and then he enters. Let's just say time slows a bit for the entire room. I happen to think that all of our faces must have either horrified or entertained him endlessly. He shook all our hands before sitting down in the middle and I have to admit, it was hard to ignore how good he smelled. (Lime and vanilla? I think one of the NYC-ers said in the United Palace thread) From there... the conversation was hilariously awkward, to be honest. I think he was pretty aware that we knew quite a lot about him... and he, not that much about us. But, he was still exceedingly polite, nice, and a little soft-spoken. I'll try to remember what actually happened during the conversation... we were all kind of in awe if I remember correctly (i.e. we were definitely in awe in the entire time--"so... you're amazing... how the crap do you exist? ...and omg you're making eye contact with me. omg omg"). One of the boys asked him what his inspirations were growing up... he rattled off a few names--Bob Dylan, Prince, Michael Jackson, etc. (and how he liked music that wasn't cool to like at the time)--until he came to Shabba Ranks and realized that none of us really knew who that was. Insert awkward laughter and sudden awareness that we were all quite young... high school and college kids. Oh boy. He also went around the table asking us if we were going into music and those of us that were not were probably cursing ourselves at that moment. Hm, what else? I believe he talked about how, growing up, people thought he might be a dancer. He said something along the lines of... "I'm not a very good dancer though. But I do have the spirit." To which my friend said "But that's the most important part" and he squidged his eyes and gave her a smile. We went over this moment just a few times on the way back. I asked him what his music video for Rain was going to be. He had already filmed it in the UK, he said, and it was basically him performing in the woods and being chased by these monsters. (Also, watch it. It's amazing.) He went on to talk about how some countries (US, Japan) wanted BIOTG for his next single and everyone else was good with Rain. So, he ended up constructing two music videos--one that's during the night (Rain) and one that's during the "day" (BIOTG). He told me to take a look at the shapes the branches make, and that there should be several parallels to the BIOTG video. (If any MFCer wants to take a look, go for it and post something!) I hope I remember correctly... but he mentioned that there are similar color schemes, as well. (I would post this to the Rain music video thread but I have to do some work...) I went on to badly, badly joke that it was something out of Blair Witch Project, to which he replied "... uh No... it's a bit more cinematic" and moved on to the next question. Me, verbally slapped by Mika. Who knew. One girl had amazingly gone to his Beirut show and he shared an odd fact about it with her. Because there was only one entrance/exit, they had to put on 20 minutes of fireworks to distract all the fans from his leaving the venue. Amazing. That's all I can remember from the conversation at the moment. Afterwards, he signed about two things for all of us and we got to take individual pictures with him. (No group--I think he had only a little time.) There was this trend of having him sign your arm... which we all took advantage of. What would you say to having Mika hold your hand/arm for 20 seconds on end? Well, I don't know about you, but I would (and did!) gladly take advantage of that. He signed a shirt I bought from Dylan's... which I wore to the concert later that night. (Too bad I hadn't made a MFC account earlier so I had known dcdeb was there with passes, eh?) Oh! And we asked him about the surprise gig that he had promised on GMA. I think you all know the answer by now. It mostly likely wasn't going to happen. But, exciting news for the Palladium concert goers, he said that the first chance he might get to do it would be in LA! It's not for sure though, so don't get too excited. Not until he announces something on his Twitter. Then we feasted on candy. Glorious.
