  1. Since Mika signed up for the talent shows, a few years ago, I have, mostly supported him, because it was his choice. I always reasoned that everything he does will get him known and sell his music.

But when he signed up for Italian X Factor again, towards the end of last year, I nearly left the fandom. I thought of another year of nothing in the UK and only foreign interviews and publicity. I came back on MFC when he was about to do the Montreal Orchestral gigs, and got excited again.

I know he says that the reality talent shows have been good for him, and they do seem to have given him the confidence to really shine on camera, but I do think he should give some thought now, to concentrating on touring and performing and writing his music.

I really hope he will do that. He mentioned writing a musical in America. This could be the way to go as everyone seems to agree that his songs belong in a theatre, and I agree with that.

Indeed! I love his idea writing a musical totally made by his songs. That was my thought from the beginning of my Mika-fan life, thought his music should be a musical in next 30 years. Like Mamma Mia with ABBA music, you know. Think my dream could be come true earlier than I imagined

I kinda left from this fandom for an year... yes while he's been featuring TV shows I never followed them.

But you know...I'm back also.  :naughty:

  2.

UK press represents a perspective of mainstream as US but not as tolerant as US, his music is not the type of commercial music to be heard and hits the headline of all kinds of magazines. I consider it a quite good thing that he's not becoming a celebrity like Taylor Swift or Usher, those who are more like a entertainer than a music worker. And in Asia it's the same that he's not part of the mainstream, just an International musician liked by lots of Radio DJs and musicians who tell the difference between songs. And I'm willing to say he's being 'professional' as a musician. The environment provides freedom and more space to him which gives him the opportunity to keep being himself, but not giving in to the cruel world like many others.

I'm happy he's not like Taylor swift and Usher or other musicians who is actually getting lots of help getting fame from gossip pages.

Yes the Irish and the Scottish reviews are similar. It's what we've come to expect from the UK. One thing I do agree with though, Mika needs a good lyric writer to work with him. Often his lyrics fall short. Not all the time, like with Heroes on the last album, and Good Wife on this album, those stories are good. The lyrics really resonate. But there are songs where the lyrics could be better.

Another thing I kind-of agree with, but it's Mika's choice to do these things, is that he tends to have his fingers in too many pies and leaves not enough time for touring or concentrating on his music. I may be being hypocritical, because I would have love him to do UK X Factor, but that is because I wish UK could get to know the Mika we all know. They'd love his smile and his speaking voice. But when I heard he wasn't doing UKXF, I became relieved, because there has been a backlash in the UK, over the judges, and if Mika had been  chosen, they'd have slated him too. I would bet on it.

But with these reviews, I wonder if they've heard the same album as the rest of the world! It doesn't seem like it.

But who can blame Mika not bothering with the UK, when he gets no respect here.

I agree on your idea that the lyrics could be a bit better in some songs - for example, Good Guys, which sounds one of best on his album but the lyrics itself is dull a bit.. and some songs, the quotes repeat too much.

Also agree on the quote "fingers in too many pies", maybe because I don't like Xfactor-ish audition shows, partly because I hate the concept of the shows judging someone's talent in very instant and show-biz way, the other part because we all know that Mika should be distracted too much to only concentrate on his music... well anyways M said on couple of interviews that he could get kind of good energy and inspirations to make himself get into songwriting again...so can not blame it on that much... More time doesn't guarantee good quality music of course... Anyway I wished to see Mika being on same stage with Simon,  :naughty: (maybe I'm kinda fan of him!)) half good half bad actually. For me actually, if M should feature in one audition show, hope it should be UK one. (not only because I understand English only, not French or Italian...  :mf_rosetinted: )

His album will be out tomorrow in UK, so let's see how things will go. I think it should go well, much better than TOOL at least.

  3. I wish I could read Korean, even I can hear some words/expression on dramas!

Thanks Yuna, I can see what MIKA told to Korean fans!

  4. I cannot say that this album is a masterpiece, we need to be a bit level headed here, masterpieces are on another level.

    BUT

this is my personal review, if anyone's interested.

Who knows me better, probably knows that I've not been very happy with Mika and his last three years' career. I don't like him to do X factor, The Voice, collaborating with fashion brands and such. More than that, I thought that his last songs were weak and lame, nothing to be bothered about. I was ready to quit for good.

Then the Fabrique. He was good on stage as always, as I remembered him from the first years. His voice has got problems, but nothing a good audience cannot compensate ;-) His voice was not killed by the instruments as I heard in Padova or Rome.

Then the new album. I'm still in shock from what I've been listening so far, I can't believe the lame songs I've heard snippets of (Talk about you, Last party, Good guys, Staring at the sun) could fit so well all together in a studio album with the surprising new ones. The whole thing flows smooth, cheerful, passionate and intimate with no continuity solution. You get to the end in a blow and want to repeat it for ever and ever. You try to keep quiet but you cannot help clapping, snapping, dancing, jumping on your chair. His voice is so warm, the choirs are perfectly fit, the arrangements amazing (Mr. Wells for president!).

It takes you back to a golden age and you even need to remember how we used to dance in the 60s/70s. Good for the old, good for the young who could discover a new world.

I know he is not the only responsible of this album, the co-authors are a lot, but thanks God he's found them. Their works has helped Mika to find his way back to success, if only the music world would be ready. It's another little revolution of his, let's hope it will be aknowledged.

It makes me happy, it makes me want to listen to it again and again, it was the same with LICM. Not sure it's the same as the first album in terms of objective value or originality. Fact is that is has the same disruptive effect on me, and that's enough for me to say that I'm here to stay.

I needed the music, and he gave me what I needed. I can live with the rest, when I feel a bit disappointed I will play NPIH :-D

Totally agree on your review, including how I felt for past 3 years, and how I felt on the small snippets, and How I feel now listening this entire album.

He found a right way to go, which so suits on him and even bigger and clear than before.

No more moans. He's back and I think our long time Mfcers who'd been shared similar idea for past few years, would be back too!  :aah:

  5. From an italian interview (thanks lucrezia for the translation):

I think this gives a whole new dimension to this song, and thinking that it is about the relationship with his father makes me incredibly sad. i hope it's just "virtual", like all she wants, rather about fears than about reality.

Anyway, same as melanie i also was puzzled by the contradiction of what he says in several interviews ("i don't care about a place in heaven") vs those lyrics. If he has written it about his father but just "disguised" it as a prayer to god, it makes more sense tho.

I thought the opposite - He said the Truth on that song itself, and disguising something else on interviews, I think?

Maybe he hoped to let this song mean to anyone whoever listen this song - never want limit the meaning of the song as 'gay prayer'

  6. Off topic. This shows one more time that Promiseland kicks ass. So not a bonus track.

Off topic again - so agree on your idea that Promiseland is an amazing song, deserves to be a single.

But it's kinda disparate in this entire album flow. All eleven tracks of NPIH flows as if it's a single song itself.... maybe that's the reason that the song should be Bonus track even though it's too good to be there.

So my conclusion is - No Place In Heaven should be a Single! It's the heart of this album.  :aah:

  7. It's really hard to re-translate Mika's word already translated in Korean to English again... with my English it's really hard ..

Some new thing I picked up is..his thoughts on men's fashion ...and Valentino (sorry am not Valentino fan so do not agree on his idea on this)

Interested to see that Mama penniman worked in Dior HQ office ...

and ....he made his 3rd album like making craft tapestry... with very sophisticated and mostly 'photoshopped' way. But this 4th album all work was like drawing everything with rough crayon.

If he could meet any of legendary musician, he would like to drink beer with Freddy Mercury, and be with Michael Jackson to chat.. but he said he met Paul McCartney a couple of time but felt nothing special ...  :naughty:

  8. I kwew Nara, me too... After the concert, I shared the taxi with her! She's a very nice girl! I'm very happy to meet new people that they love the Mika's music like me! It's wonderfull! :) :) :)

Milan..I haven't any pics of this show..Unfortunately I "saw" Mika from the 10th row, circa...because I lost my place during the queue for the checkroom  :sneaky2: and I had tall people in front of me....grr...I was there since morning... :annoyed_h4h:

Anyway.....Mika was amazing as always and I appreciated the show. He added Any other world and Stardust to the concert and I liked these choices..I love so much Any other world and it was a big surprise...really moving

I also love listen to Mika while he speaks italian...he's lovely!!!   I think he improves himself every time..very intelligent boy... :thumb_yello:

About the songs I adored Last party, Origin of love and, as I said before, Any other world...these pieces are moving and profound..and I love the way he sings them..especially Last party...but I adored too Elle me dit, Love today, Popular song, Grace Kelly, Relax...ah, these songs make me feel alive and full of joy. In this period I really need this type of songs..I love dance, sing, have fun....and I found this energy only during Mika's concerts. Nothing else doesn't matter when Mika is on the stage...and I'm very very happy. I'm happy to be here..in MFC..

Thanks to MFC's members I met in Milan, thanks to my best friend (always with me   :aah: )...and, obviously, a lot of thanks to Mika.

See you soon..for other beautiful emotions..

p.s. a big big big hug to my new friend Nara...it's fantastic to have the opportunity to meet people from other countries, like Korea...it was a beautiful day with you...see you soon  :huglove: So I post this pic...

She wrote a lot on Holix before the show while queing outside and of course a report also! Saying she met several amazing Italian fans

  12. Thank you for the huge translation! Really impressed to read how he keep the tension between the crowds at his every gig - I've seen gigs in Korea,Japan,France so far, and every gig seemed different each other even though all use same stage set and same setlist. I totally agree and felt same also that Mika performs as a interpreter not an author on his stage. Actually some big names perform as if he's "working" on the stage like it's everyday routine job for them, and then audience became a simple "consumer' of that gig. But speaking about Mika's gig, every gig in every country, he try to communicate and have fun with all audience and give some variations according to the crowds vibe and reaction. That's what I felt for years of my fangurl life, and that's why I've kept saying he's "exceptional" real performer unlike others. Now it's clear to see this as he said same here.
