  1. I guess that is open to debate but I think there is no point in doing it half-assed. You could get lucky but chances are it's not going to come to much and it's probably better to expend that effort elsewhere.

Yes. And there´s more. If he got a super success with EMD, or Popular, he could only use them in the market he appealed with them. That´s why he barely sings EMD out of France, and when he does he gets a bit or critics... or as he did in Spain, he almost asked for permission to sing it :aah:. I know he would have sung it even if the response of the crowd had been negative, cause it was in the playlist and he was willing to sing it, but still, it´s a success that he only can take advantage of in the appealed country, which means, more effort for him (who needs to rehearse different things for different countries) and a bittersweet feeling for fans from other countries, who might feel out of the loop.

I don´t know. Let´s see how things turn out.

  2. I agree with that. I think to break into the US requires such a single mindedness and that's why it's difficult for any Brit, not just Mika. You really have to pour everything you have into it and can't be faffing around with France or anywhere really. I think the lucky few who hit are like Adele whose music is already virtually 100% American influenced to start with. Others like Calvin Harris do it with high profile American collaborations (Rihanna). Also Calvin Harris is here ALL the time. He comes to Toronto several times a year and has been doing so since 2007. Same with many cities in the US.

I guess they recognized that different songs appealed to different markets with LICM and think that's the key to selling TOOL all over the world. :dunno:

IMO it needs too much effort and the pay-back is not worth it. But that´s just my opinion.

Mika has a couple or three amazing songs in that album. Stardust, Overrated and OOL are like diamonds. He could have worked on them, and with a very good video clip of each, he might have reached all those markets instead of needing to do different things which are not specially amazing and that finally only appeal to a very little part of the world each.

I don´t know.. he is doing what we call here "dar palos de ciego" whose literal translation is "hitting things as a blind".

  3. The thing is, he hasn't totally kept his distance from it.

He tweeted Ariana about it, posted the link for it and even raved about the artwork for the cover.

A darn sight more than he did for the "release" of Origin Of Love here in the UK, where he may have gone on a couple of radio shows to mention it, but he didn't seem that enthusiastic about it, not as much as he was on Twitter about this song.

Rose, I keep on thinking it´s not on Mika´s hands to go to Radio shows... If they don´t invite him, he can´t go... It´s normal he tries to avoid anything in the UK if he sees there´s no response. He releases the album and suddenly in The Netherlands, France, Italy and even Spain there are amazing shows that want him. That doesn´t happen in the UK and he may have thought that it´s already lost :dunno:

He looked quite sober when he said "when a song doesn´t catch the loop, there´s nothing to do". Maybe he has this kind of... amazing way of understanding things and he already understands that UK doesn´t love his music. (Though for what I´ve read it´s not that they dislike his music, it´s more as if they dislike Mika himself, which IMO is stupid and unfair...).

He goes to France cause he is asked to go there. Truth is that he´s been doing different things to appeal to different markets like french songs for France, South American video of OOL for South America and now this Popular feat with Ariana for US.

To me he (or more likely his team) is totally lost and doesn´t know what to do. I know it´s not like that, I know he is very professional and I think his Team is as well, but I don´t understand why he needs to appeal to so much different markets with different things instead of focus on what he already has (the album itself) and promote it in a single way for all. He hasn´t done anything for the UK market but maybe it´s not his fault but the label´s...

  4. Outside the studio = good mood

    Outside hotel = bad mood

    Funny that. :naughty:

Outside the studio, outside the hotel... it doesn´t matter. Mika smiles ALWAYS and he rarely share his inner thoughts about his things, so, if he smiles it doesn´t mean he is happy with the show, the same way that if he doesn´t smile it doesn´t mean he´s sad with what he has just done in a TV show. IMO.

All the talk on twitter or even in this thread was based in what we saw live from our houses. Not on Mika´s behaviour at all (mainly cause at that moment we didn´t see him).

He didn´t have the same time or treatment that other artists had. And that´s a fact and not an opinion...

Sorry to quote you Christine, this is not at all a reply to you, it´s in general.

  5. Yes, I know and you're right. But I guess we Dutchies have other standards then Americans.

This is exactely what I wanted to say next!

It is okay to buy and own guns, but oh dear when Jeanette Jackson show a part of her nipple the whole country is in a turmoil!

Yes, and that is the main reason why always Europe mocks United States. It´s so brainless to act that way... what´s up with Madonna´s videoclips?? God, they forbid everyone of them. But then, it doesn´t matter how many kids are shot, they won´t change the law. It´s so stupid that hurts.

  6. Btw... have you realised?? All Ariana´s fans love that song. I don´t konw how it will work, cause honestly in my case, when it´s Mika who sings with someone else as he did with Pharrell or Priscilla I didn´t even bothered... I have no idea how Pharrell or Priscilla look, or how their music sound, so I´m not sure if it´ll help Mika to sell more albums or not...

  7. I agree with Christine, hence why I asked you what was wrong. In my northamerican eyes, it was perfectly normal guest appearance on a busy show with many guests:thumb_yello:

I won't say that. What's the point of an appearance in these kind of shows? To inform a big bunch people that you are back (or are there at all) and have a new single / a new album. So, Mika was there, he did a good performance, 5.4 million people saw the final, 5.4 million people are reminded that he is back.

And I wouldn't have expected more than a 3 minute performance, it's what everybody normally does on these kind of shows :dunno:

I don't see what's wrong with a medley, too. What's the difference in doing one song or 3 parts of three songs, in the end everybody has his 3 minutes on the stage.

About the mess and the crap presenter: It may be disappointing for Mika on a personal level but I don't think that it hurt the promotional purpose of that TV appearance that much. As a normal viewer I judge the artist from his performance not from the quality of the presenter.

Of course I'm talking without seeing the other parts ;)

    Has somebody recorded them?

It had been perfectly normal if all the guests would have had the same treatment. But as I told you, no one was pushed out of the stage as Mika, and all the guests had their moment, and were asked about their music and stuff.

If you are a singer known by Rain and Relax, and you go to a show and perform Rain and Relax... how on Earth are people going to think you have a new album? The bit he sang of Celebrate could have been a bit of song from his second album... you know what I mean? Thank God he sang Celebrate instead of Grace Kelly.......

  8. Maybe it was Mika's choice to sing a medley. :dunno:

And really in the US it is normal for the musical guests to not speak at all on many shows. It sounds like a bit of a disorganized crap show in general but I will believe that Mika was sulking all the way back to his hotel and cheering himself up by spending time with his stalk...err...fans when I see the video evidence. :naughty:

He did tell us once about a bad experience he had on a TV show but he explained it. I'm not going to jump to conclusions based on his mood when he's already back at his hotel after a hideously long day.

I can´t talk about his mood. I just can talk about what I saw, and yes, it was crappy and even disgusting to all us Mika fans.

Worst is that again a choice to promote his album has gone.

  9. Treated him really bad, how?

It was all a mess, the presenter was all the time turning around to see what was happening backstage as if they weren´t ready or something, and well, when I say he was mistreated, I mean in comparisson to the other guests.

Mika sang a f** meddley while the others sang a whole song (one of them even had a piano....)

And when they announced Eros Ramazzotti, the presenter hold his new album. Promoted it.

Mika wasn´t allowed to talk, they were in a hurry and he was almost pushed out of stage... that was my impression, anyway. Well, my impression, and all the Spanish MFCers´....

  10. That's how he's treated on almost every American show. He just sings a song and that's it. I don't think that Mika is so full of himself that he expects to be treated as a star on every television show he appears on. I guess he may have expected something else but I am going to take any fan reports of his mood outside his hotel with a grain of salt myself. :naughty:

    LOL :aah:

I´ve never been at a hotel so I don´t know how his mood is at those places :aah: but it was sad to see how he tried to say something and nobody would listen...

  11. Nothing more to say. Sadly (or fortunately, now I´m not sure) in that vid you can´t see what they did to him after the performance. David Bisbal was really cute, and told him "Mika, you are The Voice" but the presenter, one of the best professionals we have in my country, gay, clever and polite, treated Mika really bad. A shame.

Anyway, he is today in that Paul de Leeuw show, where I´m sure he will enjoy it and soon will forget about this.

I hope he still remembers about how well he was treated the three times he came to El Hormiguero...

  12. Drama queens all over the thread :aah: :aah:

I had no idea who this girl was till someone posted here the pic of "Victorious".

    :mf_rosetinted:

    nice

    :mf_rosetinted:

My 6yo son watches that serie.... so I know this girl...

We know Mika didn´t have a too-great relation with Priscilla since she fell sleep in that couch in that studio, right? :aah: Since he´s been performing that song, he never did it as it was recorded, instead, he always sings it like this version. Maybe he "can´t" rap, or maybe he just doesn´t like it... :dunno: but when it comes to promotion, I think he has done it right this time. Popular is the most "american" song of the album (God, they love rap) and doing a dueto with a girl who is "popular" not only in US but also in South America I think it´s a good idea. Do I like the version? bleh, I don´t care. It´s not my fav song of the album, and I don´t like versions... I usually never pay attention to variations of a same song... that´s why when he popped up in a radio with a NEW SONG and it turned out being a new version of MYH I just closed the window and went do other stuff.

So, either if we like it or not, maybe it brings him cash :aah: which is always good, cause I want him to tour Europe again. And again. And again. :mf_rosetinted:

  13. Whoa... I had no idea how the gig had been

I felt odd when someone tweeted he started with a French song... and no, that song is not in his setlist, he didn´t play it in Madrid... and there, he even almost asked for permission to sing EMD.

I would´t complain for his voice. He is ill and we already know it. But I find it even more weird that he hadn´t talk to the audience during half first gig? That IS odd. I´ve been to 8 gigs and he always found the way to chat...

Is it possible that still he feels the most nervous at home? He said in an interview he locked himself up in a bathroom in Heaven last summer because he thought the press was going to "kill" him... Maybe this fear makes his mood change so much... :dunno:
